Spector's Junction Point working on Disney / Pixar collaboration
Almost exactly one year after announcing that Disney Interactive Studios acquired his Junction Point Studios at last year's E3, Warren Spector – the famed game designer with his hands on everything from System Shock to Thief to Deus Ex – announced via his blog that his studio's first project will in fact be a "collaboration with folks from Disney Feature Animation and Pixar." He's not ready to say anymore (though he did say that he would "say nothing" just before telling us about the Disney / Pixar info) but we're holding out for some sort of announcement at E3 this week. Movie tie-in? New video game IP developed by Pixar and Disney? He's not telling!

I remember there was a rumor going around that Disney asked Spector to make a Mario-quality platformer starring Mickey Mouse, though that doesn't really seem to factor in the Pixar involvement.

Maybe Pixar would be helping in the visuals department? Because, frankly, Disney's 3D visuals are crap compared to Pixar's.

The viuals in Meet the Robinsons and Chicken Little weren't all that bad, but you're probably right.

As much as I hate all things Disney, this is mildly interesting.

other companies scramble all over their movie tie-ins, so i'm betting something like a pixar movie (cute non-human creature learns a lesson), but built as a game from the beginning

I'm concerned about the new Pixar.Since they were bought by Disney, they're already going to release five new movies by 2012 including two sequels.
Sure, Ratatouille was outstanding and Wall-E is getting some excellent reviews but I'm not sure whether they will be able to keep up this quality if Disney keeps milking them like that.

That's the thing. Pixar's work continues to be universally good, but it's no longer as special as it once was
Much like Animated CG movies in general, but that's a whole other issue

Well, not only the former heads of Pixar still held high positions, but Disney should realize that their most acclaimed movies are directly from Pixar, so I really doubt they would try to milk them as much as Megaman...

Wall-E is being tipped for a Best Picture Oscar. I wouldn't really worry too much about the quality of Pixar movies right now...

The Incredibles MMO.

How about a not-crappy version of Wall-E?
Benny @ Jul 13th 2008 3:49PM
Perhaps the Toy Story 3 tie-in? Although I've not heard of a studio actually devoting a 2-year development cycle to such a game.
Lijik @ Jul 13th 2008 8:34PM
If this is the case they NEED to get Andy Blythe and Marten Joustra to score the game. They did the music for the previous two Toy Story games and it just wouldn't be the same without them.
