E308: Square Enix announces Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has just announced a version of Final Fantasy XIII will release on the Xbox 360. The former PlayStation franchise will now ship on the Microsoft branded console. No release date or other details have been made. Can we just say it now? WOW.

Prior to the trailer for Final Fantasy XIII's Xbox 360 debut, Wada also drops some details on other Square titles. Infinite Undiscovery hits September 2 in NA, September 5 Europe, September 11, in Japan and Asia. Star Ocean: The Last Hope coming in Spring 2009 but was not named as an Xbox 360 exclusive. Finally, Last Remnant hits the Xbox 360 first this holiday season across the world on November 20, 2008. The Last Remnant will also ship for the PC, but a release date has yet to be decided.

Damn. That's a big surprise.

So much for exclusive.

Why are they porting this? Its stupid how these companies say "oh its going to be an exclusive" just to change their minds and go multi platform. I believe in things such as integrity, I know its a business, but still. It makes them look stupid.

I honestly would be indifferent about the news if Square Enix didn't flip flop like John Kerry. Funny thing also 90% of the people I know who own a 360 only have American games, FPSs gory that kind of stuff. Will be interesting to see how FF13 sells on 360.

Another thought, notice how Square Enix does absolutely everything it can to milk the most money possible out of FF franchise? This is just another money milking move.

The reason that companies are starting to make these games multiplatform, is because they cost so much money to make them now. There are not enough PS3 sold to cover the cost of this game to make a good profit. I personally wish that it stayed exclusive, but they have to make money otherwise they can go out of business.

Don't knock Square for milking the franchise. Super Mario ring a bell?

enjoy changing your discs every 15 minutes is all I can say to u 360 fanboys. M$ has lost my respect with the amount of bribing they do harass us Ps3 customers. I used to buy 360 games for mulitplatform titles. But its gonna be all ps3. they are just hurting us ps3 owners who shouldn't buy a 360 because we are crap to them. I used to prefer microsoft but now i'm angry at them as they are consistently worsening my ps3 experience. Final Fantasy would have been better if it was an exclusive. Now the ps3 version will suffer because the devoloper will spend time on the 360. Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid were better because they were exclusives. Now Final Fantasy will suffer. f u M$. I respected the company but now they are gonna lower the quality of our playstation experiences. They should respect us ps3 gamers. Instead of stealing our exclusives they should work on their own original exclusives. Sony u better work some magic. I don't really care that much about Final Fantasy that much but I was still interested. Now I know its gonna lose its quality. I won't buy it Square Enix because of this unless its really amazing.

All I have to say is, after the constant "THIS IS PS3's YEAR, F U XBOTS" over the past 6 months, this is sweet.

I know they won. Also, Microsoft didn't steal exclusives. Did you ever think that maybe, the price killed them, also, sales of ps3 are good enough to warrant a single console release. Don't get me wrong, the ps3 is good, but, I didn't want blu ray. I dont mind switching disc. I don't mind having a 0gb disk that wont be filled.

I was going to say something about how funny all the comments are at PS3 fanboy about this revelation, but Shashwat brought the hilarity to us!

FF won't suffer...it will actually sell!!! Square is just smart.

and btw, who cares about changing discs in an RPG? Why is this a problem? Can you not get off your couch and put a new disc in once every 10 hours or so of gameplay? What a mute point.

They're not lowering the PS3 experience so much as RAISING the xbox360 experience. Last time I checked this wasn't a socialist console war. Up with competition, and down with appeasing the lackluster moves the Sony people make.

sorry for the rant. I like the 360 but this is really annoying. I'd be just as pissed if Sony got Gears 2. The fact is that making a game multiplatform makes it more complicated to develope. So it hurts the game. i love my 360 but It just angers me to see Microsoft stealing my ps3's exclusives. This will just negatively affect the ps3 version of Final Fantasy. Once again I am not a ps3 fanboy. I am usually pissed off at Sony for promising us so much and delivering so little. But I don't like the way Microsoft takes our exclusives away. Gta could have better on the ps3 if it was exclusive. They would not have to worry about the 360 version and they could make it better.

How would you like it if Gears 2 was announced for ps3? The game would suffer as Epic would not be able so much time on the 360 version. Its just just the way Microsoft treats ps3 owners. It pisses most of us off when games are not made to the potential of the ps3 becuase developers can't make the ps3 version as good as it could be because its multiplatform.

It just alienates ps3 owners.

Now this is better than GS SW.

I know u'r laughing at me. That's because I was a jackass and I deserved it. On ps3fanboy they would cry with me but not here. I have gone over the reasons why exclusives should stay exclusive. If you cannot comprehend them then you need help.
To reiterate, exclusives are better as they concentrate on the one version. i'm just unhappy that Sony made me pay 500 dollars for games they can't keep exclusive. The sony experience is worsened as the games suffer in quality and graphics. do you guys think that MGS4 would have the same graphical quality if it was multiplatform. True it would have still have good graphics but nothing near what it has right now.

Those are my reasons and stop being fanboys.

Uhhh... since you can now download games to your harddrive... can't you just download the whole game to your hdd and play with 1 disc

OMG, I have no reason to buy a PS3 now. In my eyes, the 360 is now the definite console to own.

HA! Serves ALL of them right. All we hear is how much better PS3 is and all they've delivered is that it does one thing and one thing only that xbox 360 doesn't.... play Blu Ray movies! I don't want a movie player. I'll buy a stand alone. As far as a gaming machine.... I have not been let down by xbox 360. Haven't had any problems since buying one either. I'm pretty content with my purchase and love that fact that Sony's arrogance and it's die hard fanboys are crying as we speak! :-)

I was a really console independent (I owned a 360 for 6+ months before I bought a PS3). But once my 360 got the RROD, I sent it in and they sent me back another RROD 360, I said screw them (I sent it back again and they fixed it). But after not having the console for 1.5 months due to their poor manufacturing, I became anti-Xbox360 more than pro-PS3.

The 360 getting FF13 just annoys me because it'll help Xbox sales.

How will Sony and Nintendo counter?

The Dashboard update makes the recent PS3 update look like a joke. It also makes nintendo's online non exsistence.

Nintendo doesnt have to counter... since they were never planned for FF13, they are pretty much watching the Square Hadoken PS3 with their shades and labcoats on.

If they had anything aimed at them, it was LIPS, which was more like Dan's Hadoken... it didnt even go as far as the Microsoft Palm....

Just as well though concidering MS has been adamant that they are not in the same battle as Nintendo... and Ill agree completely with that.
