I hope they have some kind of continue thing implemented like the original arcade Tempest where you can restart at a higher wave. The main reason I put GW down originally was because it took so long for the difficulty to ramp up and then you got slaughtered. Yes I have played Galaxies and I like it (although it induces option paralysis), but since I rarely touch my Wii (unlike my wee-wee), I rarely touch Galaxies.

the video they had for the announcement during the keynote clearly showed 4 different colored ships. I'd say thats a good sign that there will be co-op at least!
