Portal is officially getting a sequel.
Gamerscore Blog reveals that
Portal: Still Alive will continue the single player story found in the original
Orange Box collection, and will add new challenges. The title will be available through Xbox Live Arcade ... although no word on either a PC or PS3 version at this time. Considering the massive popularity of the original, this is a huge win for XBLA. Potential details of the sequel may have been leaked
here.
Update: Yup, confirmed. Microsoft has announced that
Portal: Still Alive will come to XBLA this fall -- the release will feature new levels and achievements in addition to the original content. No lie, cake or otherwise.

Im not the only one, look below me, HEHE
AwesomeTown @ Jul 14th 2008 1:43PM
I think I would rather download it on Steam. Everything else I have from Valve is there. Plus, I don't think this would be anything more than time-exclusivity for XBLA if at all.
Gokie @ Jul 14th 2008 1:43PM
If Valve doesn't release this on PC after all they've spouted about PC still being the best and most viable platform, going to lost a lot of respect.
iofthestorm @ Jul 14th 2008 3:02PM
Yeah, I doubt they would even give XBLA an earlier release because that basically says fuck you to all the PC gamers who supported them, and completely goes against them saying that PC is the best platform.
Haggard @ Jul 14th 2008 6:18PM
Valve won't go 360 over PC with this - besides, the orange box sold waaay better on the PC than the 360.
knowthyself @ Jul 14th 2008 1:47PM
I doubt it'll be exclusive. I expect a steam and PSN version to launch at the same time.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 14th 2008 1:46PM
Is it going to be an expansion to Orange Box? I would think it would have to be if it's going to be released on XBLA.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 14th 2008 2:28PM
It sounds like it's just going to be additional levels, I was hoping for a full blown sequel that continues the story, the PC has had user made levels since release.

So that makes this Portal: Episode Two? Are we going to have to wait years for this?
(but seriously, this is friggin' awesome)

Maybe PSN-err black mesa?
That was a joke, hah hah, fat chance.

paradox @ Jul 14th 2008 2:01PM
lol at XBLA. Steam version please! You must because you can.
iofthestorm @ Jul 14th 2008 3:04PM
Seriously, Valve is a PC company first and foremost. If this doesn't release on Steam at the same time a little piece of my PC gaming heart will die...
Mark @ Jul 14th 2008 2:10PM
All these Xbox360 exclusives. Joystiq's front page.. just read it today, and drink the tears of Sony fanboys.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 4:23PM
Then wait tomorrow for E3 2008 Act II: Sony's Revenge
Heh @ Jul 14th 2008 5:29PM
And episode 3: Attack of Nintendo's Wii.
Mark @ Jul 14th 2008 5:36PM
Yeah, so we can see more awesome PS3 exclusives like Haze or Lair? Can't wait.
Or we can wait another 2 years for a single decent Wii game? Get off of your butts, Nintendo.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 6:15PM
Well I'm not bashing on anybody or claiming Sony's will be the best press con of E3 but all I'm saying is that this is NOT Microsoft's conference and the other two have just enough potential to eclipse a lot of Microsoft's megaton announcements.
But not FFXIII that one was just plain evil of M$ (and don't attack me for using that dollar sign because it's more relevant now than ever!)
Jakka @ Jul 14th 2008 2:25PM
This is going to be so overrated.Just look at the nerd-gasm the guys above are getting.
Paulmichael @ Jul 14th 2008 4:47PM
Nope, it's going to be amazing. Valve seemingly always delivers the goods. So invite your friend the companion cube, before you euthanize him that is.
ANTCEP @ Jul 14th 2008 2:38PM
i this isn't on steam gabe is gonna get an angry email
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 4:22PM
If this isn't on Steam, Gabe is gonna get a LOT of angry emails.
Bouille @ Jul 14th 2008 2:40PM
Duded and Dudettes. I'll let you into a secret of mine. *shh* *whisper*If it's from Valve then*whisper* IT'S COMMING TO MOTHA DINGLING STEAM!
aggrazel @ Jul 14th 2008 3:28PM
Sure, unless microsoft paid a boatload of cash to make it XBLA exclusive.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 3:47PM
Probably did.
Haggard @ Jul 14th 2008 6:20PM
After criticising MS for not delivering on their promises to unify PC gaming, it'd be a little hypocritical of Valve to accept a big fat bribe to make a 360 exclusive.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jul 14th 2008 3:47PM
I'm sorry but I am getting a little annoyed with both Steam and Microsoft. Since my next choice for a console (I haven't jumped on the current-gen bandwagon just yet) is probably the PS3 it really bothers me that I know it won't be seeing Portal: Still Alive for a looooooong time because Steam is being a little jerk towards the system.
Plus, I'm pretty sure Microsoft got this as a payed-exclusive which I know they may not pay for ALL of their exclusives but for the majority (probably including the shocking fact that FFXIII is coming out on the 360). And sure, it's just business.
But when you're direct competitor takes a more natural approach to exclusives and let's them come to it, one of the two biggies end up looking like The Empire...and it's not Sony.
*waits to be white-washed to death*
Sam @ Jul 14th 2008 4:06PM
I really hope they release this for pc at the same time as xbla, I mean, since they're valve I bet they will.
Replica23 @ Jul 14th 2008 5:01PM
As a couple other users have said, it's like a planned free updates for the PC, something that shouldn't be announced with a paid update for the 360.
Tim The Enchanter @ Jul 14th 2008 4:20PM
Imagine a multi-player Portal? That would be a mess... but a fun mess indeed!
Kevin @ Jul 14th 2008 4:31PM
Portal: Still Alive may be a XBLA exclusive title. It will likely come as a free booster for PC, much like all of the TF2 enhancements.
Probably just a dozen extra rooms and some achievements to go with it.
Joe Smith @ Jul 14th 2008 7:21PM
Hashbrwon Hunter: You really think Microsoft is the only company that pays for exclusives??? Sony somehow takes a "more natural" approach? What the hell are you smoking?
Joe Smith @ Jul 14th 2008 7:26PM
Hashbrown: WHy are you angry that Final Fantasy is coming to Xbox as well as 360? Why assume MS paid big bucks for it? If I were a Square shareholder, I would have been pretty ticked off at the company for ignoring one of the major players in the market -- which has cost them millions of $$ in sales. And even if Microsoft did pay for the series to come over, why is that evil? Owners of 360 now get access to a game that they wouldn't have had otherwise. Square gets to market its game to millions of users who they couldn't have sold to before. It's a win in all directions.
Desert Phantom @ Jul 18th 2008 12:41AM
if you haven't noticed, there is a battle for exclusives in the gaming world. Each side wants to have the next great exclusive game, the next halo. Microsoft has done a good job slapping off most of sony's exclusives, except for resistance and metal gear and a few others. They got grand theft auto, they got guitar hero, they got final fantasy. Things aren't looking so good for Sony and the PS3 except for the win in the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD battle.
Monking @ Jul 18th 2008 12:57PM
We do what we must because we can.
