Rumor: Rock Band 2 to feature GNR Chinese Democracy track
According to The New York Times, the arrival of Rock Band 2 later this year will not only be accompanied by expected fanfare, but the belated blaring of scented weapon rockers, Guns N' Roses. Taken from the band's eternally upcoming album, Chinese Democracy, "Shackler's Revenge" will reportedly grace Harmonix's sequel, signaling the first time a new Axel-lent song has managed to find its way onto a disc in a very long time.
While the Times views the track's in-game appearance as a portent of the band's album making it to store shelves before the great shelf extinction of 2019, less optimistic folks (that's us!) have simply accepted an unpleasant truth. Rock Band 2 is never coming out.

This should have been DLC. I want old axel rose in the game, not new, fat with cornrows axel.
Ghen @ Jul 14th 2008 7:36AM
Hopefully Harmonix gives him a freaking deadline on getting the master tracks to the game studio for processing.
My vote is it'll be DLC too. Because there's no WAY Axel can do anything on time.

Gross. After hearing the leaked Chinese Democracy tracks...
For the love of god - Use Your Illusion or prior *only*.

Ditto.

I haven;t heard the new tracks, are they that bad? I had heard they've gone downhill somewhat. Maybe they should put on some good ol' fashioned thrash?

"Rock Band 2 is never coming out."
Just like Rock Band PAL!

Oh, SNAP! There better be music from Starcraft: Ghost and Duke Nukem Forever, too!
eldee @ Jul 14th 2008 3:00AM
It's worth mentioning that a few songs have been leaked/trickled out over the years.. one of the songs is even on the freaking End of Days soundtrack (and it sucks). Point being- this is not an omen that Chinese Democracy is coming out anytime soon.. My guess is that axl needs a paycheck so he's selling a song to MTV Games/Harmonix.
The funny thing is- If this rumor turns out to be true it's going to create so much hype for Chinese Democracy, but Axl will squander it yet again.. He's the George Broussard of music, and Chinese Democracy is his Duke Nukem Forever.

Yeah, not a good thing after listening to the leaked tracks: http://www.mediafire.com/?2fkzmzzwsrs
That's pretty close to the full album, and pretty close to being some of the worst music I've heard in a while.
jsn @ Jul 14th 2008 6:04AM
It's nowhere near a full album, all the tracks are demos from several years ago. As for the quality, speak for yourself. I thought several of them were very good in their unfinished state.

Who cares?! GnR is dead anyway, which is a shame. With the original set up it was one of the best rock bands ever but then slash and some others left. Don't know which one is to blame but since then GnR is more like a dumbed down console port or a Rock n Roll band. Sad, really sad...
Heh @ Jul 14th 2008 5:33AM
"but then slash and some others left."
Every member of GnR that could keep an appointment and didn't have egotistical problems left. ;)

What happened to that welcome to the jungle that was soppose to be in rockband 1? You know the one what was in the demo video back then? Yeh just add that instead.
Heh @ Jul 14th 2008 5:37AM
Activision has the sole rights to "Welcome to the jungle" thanks to GH3.
Jeff @ Jul 14th 2008 5:08AM
Jesus Christ, I certainly hope not.

That leaked list of 80+ songs looks more and more realistic if this is confirmed.

Get out.
FunkyFlyChicken @ Jul 14th 2008 6:42AM
Eh, Axl Rose is worthless anymore, and that is just another knock against a purchase of Rock Band 2 for me.
I for one won't be investing in Rock Band itself anymore, thanks to Harmonix making cheap crappy instruments that can't even hold up to 3 weeks of play. I've gone through 3 guitars in 3 weeks, and my drum pedal is dangerously close to snapping. Sure, I could go out and mod it... but I SHOULDNT HAVE TO.
Harmonix is losing out by not having RedOctane making their instruments anymore. It's almost a lose-lose situation, GH stays with Activision but gets thrown to Neversoft to pimp out, and Rock Band goes to the devil - EA/MTV Games.
Personally, at the damn price of the hardware (and honestly, the impressive list of features in GH: World Tour), I think I might be done supporting Harmonix. Shame too... I have so many fond memories of Amplitude, Frequency, and all the original GH games. Damn shame indeed.
ScottG13 @ Jul 14th 2008 8:34AM
We've been having regular Rock Band parties since last November and not ONE piece of hardware has faltered.
Yes, the Guitar Hero 3 is a superior guitar, but everything has held out. I'm selling my old gear and buying Rock Band 2 stuff because of that.
I've only had 1 RROD, so I guess some people just have bad hardware luck.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 14th 2008 7:19AM
All I had to do was read the title of the post, and oh man, I laughed. Hard.
Purple Haze @ Jul 14th 2008 7:54AM
Why not something good from guns n roses? Release the entire Appetite for Destruction album and you'll sell heaps, but not this piece of shit, post-Slash guns n roses song.
Stephen Lang @ Jul 14th 2008 1:58PM
The game will also come bundled with a can of Dr. Pepper.
