E308: Rock Band 2 set-list revealed, song transfer 'under $5'

During the Microsoft Press Conference yesterday, Harmonix unveiled the full song set-list for Rock Band 2. Nearly doubling the set list size of the original release, Rock Band 2 will include 84 tracks (all master recordings) on the retail disc, plus there are plans to release an additional 20 tracks as free downloadable content after the game's release.

The Rock Band 2 press release, which included the final set-list for the game, also mentions that Rock Band content from the original retail disc will be transferable to the sequel, but for a price. According to the release, "owners of the original Rock Band will have the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay-the first time ever in videogame history!" A fee is required to unlock the content, which will be "under 5 dollars" according to the release. Also, as stated before, Rock Band 2 will support all downloadable content from the original Rock Band.

Rock Band 2 is set to release exclusively on the Xbox 360 this September. With classic bands AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Pearl Jam and more added to the game, Rock Band 2 hasn't had us this excited about music since the invention of the compact disc. Wow. Totally just aged ourselves there.

And again NO Europe release-date. The USA date is 23rd of September so I guess the Europe release-date will be 6 months later and the instruments will be 250% more expensive.... great .... Let's just hope the instruments will be forward compatible....

I hate to see I paid EUR 89,- for the drums and it wont work with RB2 ...

looking at the list though, they better add a double kick pedal because avenged sevenfold and judas priest would be impossible to play without it unless they sacrifice the notes to make it possible (lame)

umm, both those bands are on the first rock band, and yes, thats what they do with double bass intensive songs, you basically play the right foot part.

Hmmm no Led Zeppelin songs... no Pink Floyd.... one rush song and one grateful dead song; i cant say that this track list is very good

Music is subjective - everyone has their own opinions. I am not a kid but still like Linkin Park.

Led Zeppelin doesn't license their music, it's almost impossible to convince them to let anyone use it. Pink Floyd would be cool though I think the rumored Guitar Hero : World Tour had Comfortably Numb on it.

Otherwise the set list is pretty good.

Why is there a fee? I get that it's nominal, but we already paid for them on the original. That's my only sticking point on this. Otherwise it's a massive win and the reason I'll be sticking with Rock Band.

I understand they could pull a GH and offer the old songs as DLC, and I assume part of it probably falls back on music rights. "We said you could put our songs on RB1, if you are letting people use it in a different way, we want paid."
So it blows, but for $5 to add another 50 songs to my RB2, its decently hard to complain.
And the song list is pretty f'n tight :)

yea but even with the nominal fee, you can upload all the songs on the rockband disc as well so you can just sell it and have more money than you started with

That's straight gangsta! The best music game exclusive to the 360. 104 tracks, plus all the old tracks...that's a lot of friggin' music!

It's only a timed exclusive, PS3 and Wii are getting it later. (I personally don't care, since I'm getting at Christmas anyhow[I'm getting it for PS3])

and not to be a douche but i have to throw in a correction - the AFI song is called Girl's NOT Grey.

If they "rip" the tracks from your RB1 disc to your hard drive, then there's potential for piracy (rent or buy/sell RB1 after ripping the tracks), which could be why they are charging $5. I'm sure there's a legit reason for it, and I'm guessing this is it.

im kinda disappointed by the setlist, there are about 6 or 7 songs that i would want to play on this list. I mean seriously....panic at the disco? kids in america? Alanis Morissette? what the fuck?!? im definately getting world tour now.

Man i dont get why u say this game doesnt have everything? Apparently no one watches e3. So let me sum it up. the game comes out sept23(two dayz away from my b-day!!!!) and by the end of the year there are going to be over 200 songs. So if u dont see ur favorite song on there give it some time. And dude Linkin Park is a great band(cough pothead cough) and LedZep?? Dont get me wrong great band but seriously? Think about it 10min long song with hardly any bass or drums? Can u say BORING?!?!?!? Their music just isnt right for a video game.

But i am wit u on Pink Floyd. Crazy good artist, but im sure they are trying!!! Do you know how long it took them to get AC(Thunder)DC?!? Its rumored that they were trying since the first one but decided to throw it on the second for more sales(can you say GREEDY?!?!) but im almost positive they will get Floyd. Once they see the impact of the game, most artists come around. Look at Motley Crue they freakin hated mtv but licensed their music for the fans!!! So be patient

I guess the people moaning that it's not all 'rock' have never tried playing socially with friends, or possibly family, who are into different music.

The RB2 setlist is cool and all but the GH4 setlist has more shredders that would take more time to beat. which means more replay value.

Personally I am sick of all teh new wave easy songs. Toos me the tricky ones, I am not a huge fan of metal but they are the best to play because they are the most challanging. My tastes mostly rest in classic rock. Zeppelin woudl be fantastic, however page owns the rights and he wont give em up.Floyd woudl be exdcellent to, especilly Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 cause everyoen can relate to that one. I definately want to see some more steely dan, Back in the USSR, more blues (SRV and HENDRIX!) and Dire straits. Guitarists, admit Sultans of Swing woudl be awesome!

They need pink floyd. They also need to get more 80's hairband. Still of night, Old school montly crue. Def leoperd, Skid row,Van halen, and you can't forget Ozzy Osbourne no more tears, ultimate sin, Judus should have been turbo lover. Need more guns and roses. Go back when rock was fun!!!!
