Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades ... a sequel
29
Over 350,000 units sold in three weeks ... on a handheld? You're damn straight Activision is already booking a second tour -- call it: Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades. The sequel to last month's (yeah, last month's!) palm-packed jam session was confirmed today during the Nintendo E3 2008 keynote. While not detailed, Decades will likely include a setlist that ranges multiple ... decades. The game will also include a song-sharing feature, allowing those with only the original On Tour to sample the Decades tracks. And apparently, there could be some form of microphone functionality (karaoke?) -- as if On Tour wasn't already awkward enough to play during the morning commute...

Hey, i love on tour. As long as you have good head phones, and blow into the microphone (rather than yelling STAR POWER or ROCK ON) it can be a very entertaining game. also if you know how making faceplates is easy cheap and fun.

Because this isn't milking the guitar hero series at all.
Seriously. How many guitar hero's came out this year? I was just about to buy it for the DS until I heard this news. But by the time that comes out, there will prolly be a newer Guitar Hero announced.
Fuck you activision.

You are doing it wrong, you are supposed to buy them all!
Seriously though this has gotten worse than Tony Hawk, does Neversoft pitch itself as a franchise whore?

Nope. They were making it clear that if you own the current one and your buddy owns buys this one, you can share songs between them.

i bet they'll set the bar for an even worse track list, which is pretty hard to do after on tour.

You can share the songs with GH: On Tour, thats nice. I bet that is what those four empty slots were for.
I doubt half of the people complaining have played OT either. Its actually very fun once you get used to it.

While I'm usually defending Guitar Hero, because Rock Band 2 made HMX look a bit like hypocrites, this is really going to far in terms of franchise milking.
Then again it's the DS version so I really don't give a shit. It's not like anybody could actually make a good game like this for DS.As long as they keep the quality for the main games.

Well, let me reiterate. There's nothing really wrong with Harmonix, just people's cult following of Rock Band.
See, while the "new" Guitar Hero were the "bad guys" for releasing a new game ever year and "forcing" you to buy a new controller, Rock Band was the "good guy" because although it was shit expensive(especially in Europe) it was meant to be a one time investment. You bought it and the game was meant to "stay alive" for a couple of years due to fresh supply of DLC.You didn't have to buy a new game each year. You just bought DLC. GH:Aerosmith was heavily criticised because of that, despite being marketed solely at Aerosmith fanbase. In fact it wasn't criticism, people who didn't like Aerosmith bashed it for the sake of it.Now Rock Band 2 is coming out barely a year after the first Rock Band and openly tells the "DLC Ideology" to go fuck itself.Rock Band 2 looks exactly like Rock Band, and it could essentially be Rock Band Disc 2 for all little difference there is.Oh, this also means there will be no more DLC for Rock Band 1 since Rock Band 2 is out, which also "forces" you to buy the RB2.And new instruments? You don't have to buy them just like with GH but they're "quieter and better" than current ones so what the hell, why not?
Still, everybody is all hyped and happy about Rock Band while at the same time bashing Guitar Hero for the same flaws that Rock Band itself has. These DOUBLE STANDARDS really piss me off and I hope you see what I mean now.
If Mr.ESC was to do his subliminal message bullshit, it would come down to:
Rock Band/Harmonix - GOOD!
Guitar Hero/ Neversoft - BAD!
PS: Sorry if I make any typos or have some shit grammar but I really can't be bothered to proof-check this block of text.

Jakka, your statement makes little to no sense. Rock Band wasn't meant to be a game that was going to last 3 years without a follow-up. Never was. Especially in a competitive marketplace with Guitar Hero:WT trying to emulate their success. They have made every effort to make the transition from RB1 to RB2 as easy on the consumer is possible. The steady stream of DLC that Harmonix delivered each week is going to work in Rock Band 2, so all the money you've invested in the Rock Band platform is not wasted. ALOT of people don't have internet-connected consoles, so a being able to buy a $60 disc with 84 new songs, as well as visual upgrades and new features, is giving these consumers what they want. All of the instruments from RB1 work in RB2, so they're really not forcing you to upgrade your instruments every iteration. I really don't understand how anyone can not appreciate what Harmonix is doing with Rock Band. I've spent well over $300 on Rock Band (counting instruments, game, and 60 DLC from amazing artists) and none of that money is wasted when RB2 comes out. Can you say that about all the money you've spent on GH?

and on top of what burgerbat said, all of the dlc that comes out after rock band 2 comes out will still work with rock band 1 so you really don't have to upgrade if you don't want to, but you will be missing out on 84 new songs and a a lot of new features

They're probably going to change it to 5 buttons so you can't use the peripheral you just bought.
