Nintendo announces GTA: Chinatown Wars

During Nintendo's keynote address, the company carjacked the audience's attention, announcing that Grand Theft Auto is coming to the DS. Titled GTA: Chinatown Wars, little is known about the game, save for that it will feature a new game engine, characters, and the series' standard sandbox-style gameplay.

exactly!!!!!!!! the ds needs better titles, and companys willing to work on them! the ds has alot of potential, not as much graphics as the psp, but it is up there, atleast better graphics than the n64! and that is quite a bit!

We're in the internet age now. Screenshot is the new generic term for photographs, scanned images and paintings. All media will now be referred to as discs, including VHS tapes and LP's. Clocks and watches will be called phones and all forms of writing and calligraphy will be referred to as typing.

Well the Mii system did start on the DS as 2d paper dolls, so it still works. But only I would get it, and no one would find it amusing.

I hope it's colourful and not too dark, as GTA4 was. And I hope there are clawhammers - if you live near Surrey Quays you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Ummm...what happened to Nintendo's moral high ground on stuff like this. I thought they didn't want stuff like GTA dirtying up their clean image.

Nintendo's been no stranger to GTA (or other M-rated titles, for that matter).

GTA and GTA2 were ported to Game Boy Color. And there was also GTA Advance on GBA.

Oddly, they still haven't gotten a console version of GTA.

When I first saw this, I burst out laughing. All I thought about was Miis running around gunning each other down.

That said, could be interesting to see what they do with it.

i had a feeling nintendo was getting a gta, but i was hoping for a wii game. and i never found the gba one when i finally got the system

I like how they didn't show a single thing about it. Not even a screen shot. Man, Nintendo was REALLY stretching for something this conference.

They mentioned the game, then moved on like it wasn't a big deal. Would have been nice to get more info on this.

...I hope it's 2D, I love 2D GTA. Advance was great, and GTA 2 on Dreamcast and PSX is still my favorite.

I would also vouch for 2D. I love the post-GTA3 versions but I miss the days of old.

i was interested when that woman said 'GT' i was like WTF? Gran Turismo? ON DS :O :) OMGOMG .. but then she finished.. i was like WTF GTA :O MUST HAVE IF IT'S GOOD :)

I did a double take on this story... GTA is coming to Nintendo, the home of furry happy creatures and plump plumbers.

GTA on DS = fail

Hopefully it's either funky(Vice City) or obnoxiously over-the-top(San Andreas).

The series lost some of it's appeal when GTA4 introduced the "OH MY FUCKING GOD,THIS IS SO FUCKING SERIOUS AND REALISTIC!" approach.

GTAIV is too serious? You kidding me? GTAIV is one of the funniest games I've played since Conker, but that was more of an immature type of humor.

You need to play more games.Imo,Bernie aside, GTA4 wasn't funny at all.

Rockstar tried to rip-off just about any gangster movie ever made and then dumb it down for the casual audience.

like usual with established brand names, this GTA game will sell like hotcakes. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if it outsells both of the GTA games that were released on the PSP.

The only reason why it would outsell is because there are more NDS's then PSP's sold. I just hope it doesn't look like shit.

I don't see what amazing innovation could come from playing GTA with a Wii-mote. On the go, sure, but at home, leave it on my PS3/360

When I hear Chinatown, I expect kungfu dammit.

I love GTA games but I can't say I'm too optimistic about this one. If it werecoming out on the Wii I could get excited but...

After seeing what happened to Resident Evil and Burnout on the DS, I can't really expect too much out of this. Then again, I've never played a GTA I didn't like.

According to the site on Rockstargames.com, it will have online play too.
