Nintendo announces GTA: Chinatown Wars
During Nintendo's keynote address, the company carjacked the audience's attention, announcing that Grand Theft Auto is coming to the DS. Titled GTA: Chinatown Wars, little is known about the game, save for that it will feature a new game engine, characters, and the series' standard sandbox-style gameplay.

Exciting stuff! These are the kind of titles they need to be getting.
Jakka @ Jul 15th 2008 2:14PM
If it's anything like this http://youtube.com/watch?v=kA-4L57HdI4 then it will be awesome!
GUy @ Jul 18th 2008 11:46AM
exactly!!!!!!!! the ds needs better titles, and companys willing to work on them! the ds has alot of potential, not as much graphics as the psp, but it is up there, atleast better graphics than the n64! and that is quite a bit!
time @ Jul 15th 2008 12:57PM
I assume you meant to the DS, not the Wii?
Derick @ Jul 15th 2008 1:00PM
If its coming from Nintendo, it'll probably be coming out for both...
and your gameboy
and cell phone
probably an option to play it on watches too.
koehler83 @ Jul 15th 2008 12:57PM
No.... It's coming to the DS
Kevin @ Jul 15th 2008 12:58PM
Wait...
Is it for the Wii or the DS?
I'm confused. The picture shows the DS and the article says the Wii.
Lone Starr @ Jul 15th 2008 12:58PM
I think you mean coming to the DS as the screenshot indicates.
Derick @ Jul 15th 2008 1:00PM
That's called a picture....
not a screenshot.
O_o
Lone Starr @ Jul 15th 2008 1:05PM
Must. Go. Outside.
Anam @ Jul 15th 2008 1:11PM
@Derick
We're in the internet age now. Screenshot is the new generic term for photographs, scanned images and paintings. All media will now be referred to as discs, including VHS tapes and LP's. Clocks and watches will be called phones and all forms of writing and calligraphy will be referred to as typing.
"Daddy, I tried to play a game on the Apple IIe but I think the save icon is scratched."
Tiptup300 @ Jul 15th 2008 1:57PM
It's a shot of a screen.
Screenshot. See how that works?
Wise Guy @ Jul 15th 2008 12:59PM
Sweet! They can run it on the Mii avatar game engine! :)
arrrgh @ Jul 15th 2008 2:01PM
on ds??
dude you're miles away from on topic with that sad attempt
Wise Guy @ Jul 15th 2008 2:12PM
Dude you need to read as I was kidding and already followed up on this comment before you started writing. Way to keep up!
Veko @ Jul 15th 2008 1:01PM
Awesome. There's now a game on the DS besides Chrono Trigger that I'm interested in .
Veko @ Jul 15th 2008 1:01PM
An upcoming game, that is.
Wise Guy @ Jul 15th 2008 1:02PM
2 seconds ago that article said wii. Nice update. My joke is no longer valid!! :(
Lijik @ Jul 15th 2008 1:35PM
Well the Mii system did start on the DS as 2d paper dolls, so it still works. But only I would get it, and no one would find it amusing.

I hope it's colourful and not too dark, as GTA4 was. And I hope there are clawhammers - if you live near Surrey Quays you'll understand what I'm talking about.
J.Goodwin @ Jul 15th 2008 1:14PM
Chinatown Wars!?
Damn, Rockstar must really hate Nintendo.
Darkseid @ Jul 15th 2008 1:14PM
Ummm...what happened to Nintendo's moral high ground on stuff like this. I thought they didn't want stuff like GTA dirtying up their clean image.
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jul 15th 2008 1:48PM
Nintendo's been no stranger to GTA (or other M-rated titles, for that matter).
GTA and GTA2 were ported to Game Boy Color. And there was also GTA Advance on GBA.
Oddly, they still haven't gotten a console version of GTA.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 15th 2008 1:18PM
Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown Wars
Geist @ Jul 15th 2008 1:19PM
When I first saw this, I burst out laughing. All I thought about was Miis running around gunning each other down.
That said, could be interesting to see what they do with it.
j.howlett @ Jul 15th 2008 1:20PM
i had a feeling nintendo was getting a gta, but i was hoping for a wii game. and i never found the gba one when i finally got the system
Jfk Aok @ Jul 15th 2008 1:24PM
I like how they didn't show a single thing about it. Not even a screen shot. Man, Nintendo was REALLY stretching for something this conference.
kataztrophy @ Jul 15th 2008 1:34PM
They mentioned the game, then moved on like it wasn't a big deal. Would have been nice to get more info on this.
Xoviet chiK @ Jul 15th 2008 1:37PM
...I hope it's 2D, I love 2D GTA. Advance was great, and GTA 2 on Dreamcast and PSX is still my favorite.
Burritoclock @ Jul 15th 2008 1:44PM
Right on! However I think we are probably the only two people that feel this way...
Benny @ Jul 15th 2008 2:08PM
I would also vouch for 2D. I love the post-GTA3 versions but I miss the days of old.
superaktieboy @ Jul 15th 2008 1:45PM
i was interested when that woman said 'GT' i was like WTF? Gran Turismo? ON DS :O :) OMGOMG .. but then she finished.. i was like WTF GTA :O MUST HAVE IF IT'S GOOD :)
GenBanks @ Jul 15th 2008 1:58PM
I did a double take on this story... GTA is coming to Nintendo, the home of furry happy creatures and plump plumbers.
Travis @ Jul 15th 2008 2:02PM
GTA on DS = fail
Jakka @ Jul 15th 2008 2:07PM
Hopefully it's either funky(Vice City) or obnoxiously over-the-top(San Andreas).
The series lost some of it's appeal when GTA4 introduced the "OH MY FUCKING GOD,THIS IS SO FUCKING SERIOUS AND REALISTIC!" approach.
Autopsy15 @ Jul 15th 2008 2:21PM
GTAIV is too serious? You kidding me? GTAIV is one of the funniest games I've played since Conker, but that was more of an immature type of humor.
Jakka @ Jul 15th 2008 3:11PM
You need to play more games.Imo,Bernie aside, GTA4 wasn't funny at all.
Rockstar tried to rip-off just about any gangster movie ever made and then dumb it down for the casual audience.
shawn @ Jul 15th 2008 5:22PM
i hope you die in a fire, gta wasnt ever suppose to be a game filled with humor it was just an addition. quit being such a jackass.
aggrazel @ Jul 15th 2008 2:18PM
This from the company that deleted the blood from Mortal Kombat.
Xoviet chiK @ Jul 15th 2008 2:23PM
...Wasn't Sweaty Enough?
Autopsy15 @ Jul 15th 2008 2:26PM
Finally, something to play on my DS besides Animal Crossing and Professor Layton!
Ta'quil @ Jul 15th 2008 2:34PM
Chinatown got somethin' for ev-ry-body.
I wanna teabag Chinatown!
JRM @ Jul 15th 2008 2:43PM
like usual with established brand names, this GTA game will sell like hotcakes. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if it outsells both of the GTA games that were released on the PSP.
Doug @ Jul 16th 2008 8:02PM
The only reason why it would outsell is because there are more NDS's then PSP's sold. I just hope it doesn't look like shit.
andrew @ Jul 15th 2008 3:22PM
i could only imagine this is a stepping stone to a GTA title for the Wii...all in good time
SonicRift @ Jul 15th 2008 7:06PM
I don't see what amazing innovation could come from playing GTA with a Wii-mote. On the go, sure, but at home, leave it on my PS3/360
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jul 16th 2008 2:46AM
When I hear Chinatown, I expect kungfu dammit.
Gonzo @ Jul 22nd 2008 3:15PM
I love GTA games but I can't say I'm too optimistic about this one. If it werecoming out on the Wii I could get excited but...
After seeing what happened to Resident Evil and Burnout on the DS, I can't really expect too much out of this. Then again, I've never played a GTA I didn't like.
Matthew @ Jul 27th 2008 10:47PM
According to the site on Rockstargames.com, it will have online play too.
Jord @ Aug 13th 2008 8:43AM
