Nintendo introduces the Wii Speak community microphone

Here's hoping they enable other online activity with the microphone as well. Finally, some Mario Kart voice chat? Yes please!

Holy crap a microphone for the Wii!!!
OMFGROFLCOPTER!1!1!11!!!!!
Co @ Jul 15th 2008 4:44PM
Nice.
And I don't look like a 360 fairy with a headset on.
Ghen @ Jul 15th 2008 5:09PM
ASS PENIS BOOBIES DICKWAD BALLS BITCH
sorry, I have internet syndrome.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jul 15th 2008 12:47PM
Seems pretty cool.
Saneless @ Jul 15th 2008 12:53PM
Dumb implementation. The top of my TV is about 12' from my face. Yeah, that's going to work well. Meanwhile my 360 headset with a mic 2 inches from my mouth works like it's supposed to.
Cjb212 @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:42AM
WTF? YOu dont even know how well it works so shut your mouth before you say something else stupid.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 15th 2008 12:50PM
Awesome.
leobebes @ Jul 15th 2008 12:50PM
So...when you play market kart it will sound like your in some hustling bustling Chinese market or the Mall of America?
"hey friend code 123434 help bump friend code 132434!"
"Sure here...(mom) Tommy GET OFF THE FRIGGIN GAME AND DO YOUR CHORES!!!!!!!!!"
Wii speak sounds awesome
leobebes @ Jul 15th 2008 1:49PM
Market Kart? Jeez I need coffee. You know what I meant.
Poisoned Al @ Jul 15th 2008 12:56PM
Hooray for shrill 11 year old boys with voices like a hundred fingernails on blackboards, calling everyone a noob because he sucks.
Hyams @ Jul 15th 2008 1:00PM
I don't get what the big deal is. It's just voice chat, isn't it?
Kye - WiiDSixty DF @ Jul 15th 2008 1:15PM
FUCK YES!
OH
FUCK, YES!
Finally, a step in the right direction!!
Monkeys Suck @ Jul 15th 2008 1:16PM
Hooray! More copying!
Maybe this was a deal: MS hooks us up with voice chat for Wii, we hook them up with avatars.
loungemonkey @ Jul 15th 2008 1:18PM
This thing is awful.
I don't want everyone hearing what is going on in my house...nor do I want to hear what is going on in others homes as well.
Stupid design.
mocax @ Jul 15th 2008 1:20PM
It's one of those teleconferencing mics, you don't need to be 1 inch away to speak.
Or those taking part in teleconferences would look like foos.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jul 16th 2008 2:41AM
There better be a teleconference Wii channel.
bobartig @ Jul 15th 2008 1:22PM
Reminds me of a modernized "Wii-ified" Apple plaintalk microphone:
http://www.macuser.com/hardware/vintage_apple_plaintalk_microp.php
The bottom of the mic is flat, and it sat on your monitor with a bit of overlap in the front. It's the beige plastic version, and this is the updated, blue-LED version.
Ethan @ Jul 15th 2008 1:24PM
Obviously we'll have to see what it's like in practise but I think I'll prefer this to a headset.
Cesaria (cesariatic.wordpress.com) @ Jul 15th 2008 1:26PM
I'd much prefer a headset, but I guess this will do.
ANTCEP @ Jul 15th 2008 1:32PM
wouldn't you get interference from your speakers on that??
ottoman673 [MSDF] @ Jul 15th 2008 1:32PM
Horrid idea... just give me a headset. That way i can chat without letting everyone else in the house hear what i have to say.
Co @ Jul 15th 2008 4:45PM
Says the guy living at home with parents and a 360 avatar. Classic!
ottoman673 [MSDF] @ Jul 15th 2008 10:15PM
First off, i've only donned said avatar because of the impressive E3 showing, and secondly i don't live at home; i live in an apartment complex with neighbors above and next door to me. So... yeah. Yelling at my TV so that i can be heard = distraction to them.
asurroca @ Jul 15th 2008 1:33PM
Sweet, Nintendo's charging us for yet another peripheral that should've come with the Wii from day one. No thank you.
Mr Khan @ Jul 15th 2008 1:36PM
The highlight of the show, both fortunately and unfortunately. Now that the technology's there, it will be implemented by others
MadMonty @ Jul 15th 2008 1:41PM
Won't that thing just pick up all the game sounds coming out from my TV speakers?
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jul 15th 2008 1:45PM
Personally, I, too, would prefer a headset to this. But knowing that future games will support voice chat (don't count on past games supporting it, unless the functionality was hidden in the game) means that a third-party is likely to make a headset replacement for this.
EcnobA @ Jul 15th 2008 2:00PM
stop with the negatividy and think ahead...what if to use this think there is an opening to instead of pluging the mic you can plug an usb mic(head set) so stop crying about you want your personal headset and use your PS3 usb headset intead...they might even allow this thing to work for mariokart or brawl when it comes out
Anticrawl @ Jul 15th 2008 2:02PM
Wow dude, you are so cool for calling Fernando gay. Lets be friends...
Anticrawl @ Jul 15th 2008 2:20PM
*pukes on superaktieboy's shoes*
Finess @ Jul 15th 2008 2:21PM
WTF is this, i play my games loud....so do i have to sacrifice that just to talk. Nintendo automaticaly fails at this E3.
Mighty Shockwave @ Jul 15th 2008 2:46PM
Well, voice chat does sound nice, but this peripheral seems like it crawled from the depths of Hell. I'll just wait for the third party mic.
Koopaknight29 - (Nintendo Loyalist) @ Jul 15th 2008 2:48PM
Huh, so they finally did it... cool.
I wonder how sensitive the mic is going to be?
Will there be a risk of feedback from the speakers?
It attaches to the sensor bar?
Info plz, Joystiq?
Obie @ Jul 15th 2008 3:25PM
It's a step, but the Wii is a bluetooth system, why not simply make a convenient headset for it? I dunno.
superaktieboy @ Jul 15th 2008 4:24PM
dude calm down.. i was only joking lol
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jul 15th 2008 5:21PM
Next time you have an "OMG SO FUNNY" joke... Just let it go.
kbunch @ Jul 15th 2008 7:20PM
WTF, i don't need vchat for Nintendo. Its called fire up the 360 and use the headset. Especally since MS is going to allow up to 8 people to share 1 private voice chat channel.
knowledge4lfe @ Jul 15th 2008 7:56PM
who cares the wii is gay. its a last gen consoles with gimmicky peripharels.
TheOverlord#2 can has Animals Crossing? @ Jul 15th 2008 9:19PM
Haha! So true! Nintendo is gay and it's nothing but gayness packed in a little remote!!111!1!1ONE!! Even the console's name is Wii!1ELEVEN84111!!!!33
TheOverlord#2 can has Animals Crossing? @ Jul 15th 2008 9:27PM
My questions before putting down $30 for this thing.
1. Will it pick up speaker input?
2. I put my sensor bar on the bottom portion of my Wii...will I be able to stick my WiiSpeak on the top of my TV without it falling off easily?
3. If I put the WiiSpeak on my Wii Sensor Bar will it pick up speakers because my TV(like most) has speakers on the bottom of it.
Nintendo needs to either test this out with videos showing high/low volume pick up or someone needs to get a WiiSpeak early and compile a video showing if the WiiSpeak sucks or if it is really good and is worth the wait.
