Dumb implementation. The top of my TV is about 12' from my face. Yeah, that's going to work well. Meanwhile my 360 headset with a mic 2 inches from my mouth works like it's supposed to.

So...when you play market kart it will sound like your in some hustling bustling Chinese market or the Mall of America?

"hey friend code 123434 help bump friend code 132434!"

"Sure here...(mom) Tommy GET OFF THE FRIGGIN GAME AND DO YOUR CHORES!!!!!!!!!"

Wii speak sounds awesome

I don't get what the big deal is. It's just voice chat, isn't it?

Hooray! More copying!

Maybe this was a deal: MS hooks us up with voice chat for Wii, we hook them up with avatars.

This thing is awful.

I don't want everyone hearing what is going on in my house...nor do I want to hear what is going on in others homes as well.

Stupid design.

It's one of those teleconferencing mics, you don't need to be 1 inch away to speak.
Or those taking part in teleconferences would look like foos.

Reminds me of a modernized "Wii-ified" Apple plaintalk microphone:

http://www.macuser.com/hardware/vintage_apple_plaintalk_microp.php

The bottom of the mic is flat, and it sat on your monitor with a bit of overlap in the front. It's the beige plastic version, and this is the updated, blue-LED version.

Obviously we'll have to see what it's like in practise but I think I'll prefer this to a headset.

First off, i've only donned said avatar because of the impressive E3 showing, and secondly i don't live at home; i live in an apartment complex with neighbors above and next door to me. So... yeah. Yelling at my TV so that i can be heard = distraction to them.

Personally, I, too, would prefer a headset to this. But knowing that future games will support voice chat (don't count on past games supporting it, unless the functionality was hidden in the game) means that a third-party is likely to make a headset replacement for this.

stop with the negatividy and think ahead...what if to use this think there is an opening to instead of pluging the mic you can plug an usb mic(head set) so stop crying about you want your personal headset and use your PS3 usb headset intead...they might even allow this thing to work for mariokart or brawl when it comes out

Huh, so they finally did it... cool.
I wonder how sensitive the mic is going to be?
Will there be a risk of feedback from the speakers?
It attaches to the sensor bar?
Info plz, Joystiq?

It's a step, but the Wii is a bluetooth system, why not simply make a convenient headset for it? I dunno.

My questions before putting down $30 for this thing.
1. Will it pick up speaker input?
2. I put my sensor bar on the bottom portion of my Wii...will I be able to stick my WiiSpeak on the top of my TV without it falling off easily?
3. If I put the WiiSpeak on my Wii Sensor Bar will it pick up speakers because my TV(like most) has speakers on the bottom of it.

Nintendo needs to either test this out with videos showing high/low volume pick up or someone needs to get a WiiSpeak early and compile a video showing if the WiiSpeak sucks or if it is really good and is worth the wait.
