Personally I like this concept...tis epic...

I am fairly certain they would figure out most of the problems with the game, and its not like everyone is going to spawn in a giant circle and start shooting randomly.

No, this game, as someone stated, is aiming to simulate actual battle zones, the chaos, and strategic movements you get in a real battlezone, in a game!

I like the idea and think it'll do great, just get a good connection you and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I have come to a conclusion, any game that people are totally convinced is going to fail...turns out epic.

Games everyone agree's will be great, have a 50% chance of failure.

If this game works I want a futuristic version...mechs and such. I have a love for future technology.

Oh, what would you all think of something like this game, but in space? like...capturing enemy space craft in an epic battle amongst the stars?

they said it would be like an rpg were you gain levels and choose areas of expertise. And yea its gonna be MMO-ish. A while back I read an article on this game and it said your squad has its own area and objectives but can temporarily leave them to help out a neighboring squad.
The lag problem has already been solved and the clusterF#cking is solved. What do you have to bitch about now?...

Doesn't sound like a good idea, here's why (hopefully nobody's mentioned this before). The map size is going to have to be HUGE, and it's gonna be hard to make a huge map with attention to detail and a lack of boring empty spaces.

And then, there's gotta be more than just 3, because that's pathetic and I would spit on any game that comes with just 3 maps from start. Lots of work, so this thing is not going to come out any time soon.

Finally, the massive potential for this game could go either way, depending on a whole number of (mostly previously mentioned) factors. The online, the community, the servers, the actual fun value... all of those need to work well, because although 256-man multiplayer has the potential to be truly awesome, it also has the potential to fail remarkably badly.

Personally, by the way, I'd like square-mile-size maps and extreme-realism in my 256-man multiplayer, plus RPG-style skills and stuff and good non-limiting animation/movement. That's right; I'm hard to please. A good campaign mode with 16-player online co-op (2 squads, of course; one is never enough) would be nice, too. Just sayin'.

I think they'll figure that out two, no big empty space...urban warfare would be fun in this game. Particular areas for each squad solves a problem.

I think they'll have way more then that.

As long as the game doesn't attract every $%^&tard and their mom I think it should be fine.

that would be a nice touch, a co-op campaign...can't play through the game without your friends...or just random PSN people.

I don't think this game will have much clutter. The squads will probably be give specific tasks, and will be awarded at the end of the match for completing them, thus compelling people to stay organised.

Think it will be a cool game, can't wait to see how it turns out

People! Anyone who ever played Planetside will tell you that this type of game plays very well. Squads are forced to work together to take out other squads. From what I have seen and read, they used Planetside as the general outline premise for MAG.
As a long term player of Planetside, I can tell you that this WILL pull the PS3 away from any system out there and will revolutionize the games we play online! See ya on the Battlefield!

I like the concept a lot, and I think its great, but I get the feeling that Sony is down to their last legs.

This kind of game is truly ambitious, the type of ambitious you see where you've basically run out of options, and you need to do something fantastic to recover ground.

While this game can be done properly. There are lots of factors that have to be dealt with. Sure the PS3 can handle 256 players, and maybe the 360 can't, but people who honestly believe that the PS3's console power alone will be able to keep so many people in a single battle are sadly mistaken, and ignorant.

I haven't seen Sony put forth the same kind of initiative or stability in online gaming that Microsoft has, both in the past, present and future. I hope Sony has the resources, the time, and the ability to be able to power this type of gameplay, because it doesn't come easily, and cheap.

If you think I'm being a fanboy to the 360 and Microsoft too, then once again, ignorance is ftw. Realistically speaking, Sony hasn't shown the capability to do something this grand yet, and while they may yet surprise us, I'm not holding my breath.

Autospy and mike m. had i very interesting conversation about different looks at the game. one saying 128 vs. 128- i think that wud b cool. bcuz it wuld take a long time, and there would be alot of oppurtunities to kill. what mike m. said, i think wud be cooler. 32 teams, each 8 players i wud love to play that. bcuz then ur squad cud move throughout the map and take each squad out 1 by 1, and on the way u wuld lose squad members and advance your stats.

The game sparked alot of interest when I was watching the E3 video.
I think that it is either gonna be a complete fail or the God of all shooting games.
the people going on about whether its 32 teams or not - Be aware that games let you choose so probably both 32 and 2 teams are possible.
I was annoyed there was no gameplay at all but considering it doesnt look to bad I will still buy it.

Why are people so afraid of lag?

Obviously they have found some way to bypass the lag otherwise they wouldn't even attempt making a game like this.

And to all the people saying "shear numbers don't make a good game" true, but we don't know that it will be a bad game either. Hell, we hardly know anything about it at all besides that it will have 256 players.

if the game "lagged" at 256, don't you think they would bring it down to 200 or even 100, in which is more then any game out there still. I'm sure they arn't worried about "lag" cause they handled that issue early in development.

You people are idiots. A "squad" is not an independent team. An army is divided into "squadrons", which are just smaller units of the same team. In this game there will probably not be 32 teams of 8 players. There will be 2 teams of 128 players, each team being divided into 16 different sections.

i have high hopes for this game to it looks good but it will probly be like bad company in detail reference were unimportent spots will lake some design but overall it should be great. Also with all the lame brains and idiots out there this does have a potential to fail badly but if you get a clan up with good members then that will make everything succed.
the lag problem would be big if the people working on the game were totle idiots who don't kno squet but with years of experience im sure they have a solution to that and alot of other problems.
1 final thing is this is a 128v128 game yes there comments with a free for all thing confused me but that wouldn't make sence it means more likly that you act freely in your command group but are still under one army kind of like with companys in a army and squads you each have your own objective.

i think this would be a great idea if there were objectives to achieve certain bonuses as a team
for example, some sort of hostage situation where one team has to guard and the other has to rescue
and also teams can challenge other teams to these events for throphies and medals and xp points

if not, it will definitely be a total mess

Sony is nothing but a profiteer, their motives in this case shine through, i agree with those of you who think it would be too laggy or confusing. So go, spend your money on horrible games companies like microsoft and sony because they are looking to make the best games! not the most money! never!

I feel it will be amazing, I'm disapointed it is not for the 360 too, because that is my console, but I still feel it will be...Epic?

I only hope that they, like COD4, will recognise more countries than just the USA and perhaps the Middle East. I personally would love to see the SAS, Spetsnaz and other special forces in it. Even if they set it in 30 years time, the SAS, Spetsnaz, Marines would still (most likely) exist and so they should go the obvious way and create all thier own little super forces, but rather stick to the old favourites or at least known ones.

Lastly I hope it isn't so large that you stand the chance of going a whole match without making a single dent on the enemies and dying unrecognised.

Feel free to disagree, it's only my opinion

hehe, i just thought i'd comment everything i can remeber about this.

First off the confusion you all have about the 8 squad , 256 players;
as i read alot and in other forums, hypothises etc, it isnt 8 vs 8 vs8 vs8 vs etc etc... it did make me laugh though reading all of that, but yeah not all game developers are stupid, lots but not all.
making sense: there's two teams of 126, each of those is split into 16 squads of 8, you gotta remember how amries work guys and i think thats their aim =p, not everyone rushes into battle to get their head blown off....well, i'll think about that one.

so yeah you got 16 squads of 8 on each team, each squad im presuming has a different role (ranks?) snipers, heavey guns, etc etc also i guess regiments, as that kinda showed in the un resorceful FMV at the begining.

so i guess thinking about that it kinda covers everything ppl saying you couldnt co ord 256 players or 128 ok that being fact, the game doesnt work like that D=, so co ordination has most certainly been looked at, im asuming they have something on the lines of the squad can talk and send some sort of mission data to any of the over sqads in that team.

regarding lag seems that the scale of teams is big, i asume everything else will be big too that kinda figures everything has its limits though even the ps3 lol >.> especially the ps3 =[.

but yeah i dunno what else to say now 0.- lol well other than its actually looks real promising kinda sux how ppl turn things down jsut cuz of words like
256
PS3
and Wii Fit lol
still ima pre order =p 6/10 from me for imagination and creativity.
