Following a discussion of
Siren, we asked Sony Worldwide Studios pres Shuhei Yoshida about development of the
not-quite-funny episodic comedy series
Rat Race for the PSN. Yoshida laughed, telling Joystiq: "You have good memory. Yeah, maybe I talked about episodic games and that's my fault. So, yeah, we stopped it. We really liked the concept; it's like The Office TV series. It was kind of funny but we were not quite happy with how the game was turning out and there was some difficulty in development."
So, for those of you cursed with a penchant for terrible comedy, you'll probably want to dull the pain with yet another episode of
Two and a Half Men. The rest of you? Keep an eye out for the remainder of our interview with Yoshida.

Wow...I almost forgot about those games.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 16th 2008 9:12AM
And for good reason!
Eggy @ Jul 16th 2008 9:13AM
Thank God. Keep this crap off PSN. Quality > Quantity.
Wes @ Jul 16th 2008 2:19PM
Hey Eggy, that's the ps3's moto almost. Your right though, it was a good thing this was cancelled if it was shaping up poorly.
'When you don't have quantity, any quantity at all, you might as well try to go for quality and failing that hype pre-rendered CGI as in-game CGi and any other dirty trick possible to get the sucker...customers... to buy our system!'

...instead of this, go ahead and just allow users to download "Office Space" the movie.
Or even cheaper(for the users), just play that [adult swim] game allowing gruesome deaths in the office.
tc @ Jul 16th 2008 9:19AM
this was the funniest thing pertaining to the game itself

Screw you, Chris. ¬¬
Go watch your favourite morning Disney Channel stuff.
turkeybaster @ Jul 16th 2008 10:38AM
Have you seen the morning Disney channel stuff? The wiggles are way funnier than Two and a Half Men. Because there are FOUR of them.
4 men > 2.5 men.
Paulmichael @ Jul 16th 2008 12:02PM
The hell are the "wiggles?" Pigs or something? You know what? Never mind. It's from Disney: therefore I don't wanna know.

or The Office.
either way...

*The Office: An American Workplace.
Ricky Gervais' original show is fantastic.
Tim The Enchanter @ Jul 16th 2008 1:16PM
Hell yeah, the original was amazing. Way better imo. When he whips out his guitar in that training session... oh priceless.
Marty @ Jul 16th 2008 11:59AM
Not a huge surprise - the media they put out for this game way back when just wasn't all that great. And it wasn't funny at all.
BlackBeltJones @ Jul 16th 2008 2:04PM
This is for the best.

“The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” While there was a parting of the ways with Sony first-party, the issues really weren’t about the quality of Rat Race—especially its humor. Rat Race is still very much alive, and we’ve been working hard since the original announcement to build / polish the game and elevate the funny. Those ancient released videos were scratch scenes from an early prototype of the game, and they don’t represent the current script at all. Most people playing the game at this point really dig the humor, which comes from stand-up comedy writers and voice actors with credits on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, My Name Is Earl, Saturday Night Live, South Park, Flight of the Conchords, and more. I’ll let the material speak for itself when we release.

it would have sucked anyways.
