Yeah, me too. If the Xbox version in any way compromises the ps3 version, I'm not buying either version. SE would lose a potential customer at that point. (I've never played any of the FF's but I as looking forward to this one already after the trailer).

Doesn't anybody remember in ff8 & 9 how you had four disc, i always felt awesome when i switched the disc because you felt like you were making real progress. maybe they will put them on cds so that we can swap them every hour or so, that would be SWEET.

"Here's a question readers. If it had to be on multiple discs would it matter? Seems like the same amount of hassle compared to being forced to install a game. Just saying."

Exactly. I wouldn't mind having it on 8 or 10 discs or whatever, it takes all of 20 seconds to get up and change a disc out. I own a PS3 and MGS4 and I would have preferred a 20 second disc swap over a 3 or 4 minute install between acts. Sure having it on one disc is convenient.. but those 3 minute installs between acts aren't.

Personally, disc swapping is a complete and total non-issue. I have to put a disc in the 360 to play the game anyway - if I have to lift my lazy fat ass off the couch every 15 hours of gametime, I can manage that.

I'd even go as far as to say that I prefer it to a mandatory install, because I'm an impatient bugger, and when I get a new game home, I want to start playing it that second.

Here's the big question.. Say FFXIII takes up 5 discs, and the PS3 version's -mandatory-(lol) install takes about, oh.. 20minutes?

7seconds of disc swapping > 20minutes of installation

You guys are too much. All the ps3 bashing is getting old. All the systems have their good and bad points and everyone should buy what ever is good for them. Come next gen, I'm convinced that MS will run away from Nintendo and Sony and please don't say they already have with the 360 because its success is very isolated.

I have nothing against the 360's library but I do have an issue with the rrod. My brother who works for best buy and ensured that he got a new 360 already has the rrod and it hasn't even been a month yet. This is completely unacceptable and I don't know how people have let MS make this a non issue! I don't know a single person with a 360 that hasn't had to have it replaced and of them almost all have had it replaced multiple times! This is the worst thing to ever happen and yet, MS is doing so well in North America. Ya I know its got the games and the great online services but if I have to cross my fingers before and during game play and likely be without my system for multiple repairs, it would drive me nuts and thats why i got fed up and sold my 360. I'm not a fanboy or bashing, I'm just really surprised that more people haven't dumpped it just for the lack of reliability.

As for FF13, its great news for 360 fans but i'd expct anyone with both systems would get the PS3 version. I just hope 13 is actully a good game because FF has really sucked for a while and the remakes are far better than the new FF games.....and thats just sad. FF4 and 6 will always be the best 2 in the series for me but even with the popularity of 7, why can't they move back to a formula that was actually good instead of this crap that only sells well because its labeled Final Fantasy.

Ok some guy originally said that he'd rather play it on a ps3 if it had 1080 p uncompressed video and 7.1 surround sound, ummm thats great, for a movie, how about 1080p gameplay instead, MGS4 and Killzone 2 are running at 720p, for a system touting 1080p it seems that sony is lacking much, and yeah there is a difference between 720p and 1080p,

I think that if they redesigned the console (mine looks old next to my new samsung tv), fixed the RROD and implemented BLU RAY, I think then the 360 would be a better choice for both gamers and consumers,
What Sony needs to do is discontinue the PS2 and implement backwards compatibility to the ps3, then anyone who wants to play a ps2 game will have to upgrade to a newer system, it would suck for consumers but in the long run people will be pleased to have a machine that plays new gen games, last gen games and the current disc media,.... hmmmm kinda like what the ps2 was when it first came out.

Ya, Sony's really dropping the ball with bc after they made it out to be such a big feature. I need bc for the Playstation line because I need Castlevania SOTN, Final Fantasy 1, 4 and 6, Chrono Trigger, Capcom VS SNK 2, Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. If I buy the 40G or the new August 80G, I'm sol. The reason I bring it up is because I want a 2nd PS3 as a 2nd Blu-Ray player but if MS made a BR 360 AND fixed the RROD FOR REAL, then I'd get the 360 instead.
To be totally honest, Nintendo is the only company doing things right. The DS vs DS Lite is only cosmetic differences, and there's only 1 Wii. This multi sku BS that Sony and MS are doing is stupid and at this point in the game, there should be no new 360s for sale that don't include a hard drive.
Next gen feels so far away but I hope everyone will learn from this gen's mistakes:
Nintendo - way too under powered and no extra storage (backing up to SD isn't extra storage)
MS - reliability is more important then having a year jump start on the market (360's RROD = Windows BSOD and both are unacceptable), all systems need a HD and don't have functional differences between skus
Sony - don't lose you're biggest 3rd party exclusives, don't come out at such a high price (I know BR makes it more expensive and its nice to have a larger capacity but you need to make the system more widley affordable) and don't have functional differences between skus
To all - installs are ok but more effort should be put into making them optional
Sorry, my rant is done, but I do feel better :)

"As for the in-game visuals, we're going to look for ways to ensure that the quality remains the same between the two versions."

So they are gonna gimp the Ps3 version? I hope not. I just want them to do they best they can for each system. If they can get more out of the xbox then don't gimp and if they get more out of the ps3 then they should not gimp that.

All Game data for items that you take throughout the game, as well as locations you visit, etc, should be shared on all game disk. Just like in any other multi-disk games, the game will never need to swap a disk for something like loading a time, or part of the game world.

Multi disk is mostly for Full Motion Video. Of course these aren't shared on every disk, but they don't need to be, as you won't need to view the old cinematic while in a different part of the story.

I wouldn't mind swapping discs at all. I'd give a nice nostalgic feeling. That feeling that each disc represents a chapter int he story, and has it's own theme. I know they probably wont put that much emphasis on it, but still... they have to pick the right place to cut it off at. On the other hand... they seem pretty keen/positive on getting it on one disc. Remember when that guy said Assassin's Creed would only work on Blue Ray? Blue ray as a necessity is nothing but Sony Smoke and Mirrors.

As for the post that claimed that everyone he knows has had RRoD, add my name to the list of people who know 360 owners who have never had RRoD. Yes, a couple of my friends needed a repair/replacement, but many others have not. The whole fanboy thing is so old. Both SONY and MS have good products, so get the one that works best for you and support it. Bashing the other guy is pointless-- you're not changing anybody's mind so don't bother.

It is not system bashing if it is true. You had a different experience and many others have as well. I for one went through 3 RROD before I gave up on MS. A lot, maybe 75% of my friends have as well. I'm talking personal friends AND people on my friendslist that mysteriously disappear for a month here and there only to find out they have got it when and if they ever get back online.

It was a hard choice to finally leave MS behind on this gen. They truly had their act together (initially) with LIVE, securing great games and just having an all around fun experience. Something Sony has yet to be able to quite get down, but I am going to stick it out with them because my system has at least been running fine since day one.

And stating this to people will hopefully, yes, change some minds. The more MS gets away with it, the more it will encourage them in the future to not consider it as a big deal.

as a PS3 owner I can say that for this kind of linear history games, disk swapping is not a problem, i do not think they will compress the video more that they do on the PS3, maybe they will use a lossy audio codec instead of uncompressed 5:1 or 7:1 audio. another thing they can do is to create different languages disks for europe, instead of having spanish, french, english on the same disk(s)

I hate how sony fanboy's scream betrayal that it's coming to the 360. When in fact Final Fantasy was originally on Nintendo before Sony. So... yeah lol.

Like someone above said, both systems are getting this game, more fans get to enjoy the final fantasy series, so whats the big deal.

Also disc swapping isn't a big deal for me too, some of my favorite FF games and NON FF games were multi-disc, ex: FF7-9,Parasite Eve, Metal Gear Solid etc etc

too many lazy gamers lol

I'm a huge FFVII fan..Hopefully they'll port the new version for the 360 as well!!!

multiple disks is fine. installing may be ok for those with 120 giggers, but no dice for me.
plus, compressing audio and video should be a standard. the the only reason developers are saying blu-ray is not big enough, is because they want to put uncompressed media on there!

All this disk swapping BS is just a bunch of Sony fanatics wanting to feel good about their purchase. FF7... a fan favorite.... was on multiple disks. PS1 games were that way for years, all those fanboys didn't have a problem then. It's funny how that's coming out now because of a bunch of babies that are pissed it's multiplatform!!

Sony fanboy here - you know imo what will end up happening with this game is that they'll just cut the final product short, maybe it'll be missing a (Downloadable) chapter here or there. None of will never miss it, but hey at least you got something on one or two DVDs. I don't have a problem with any game going multiplatform, but don't give me a blu ray disc with DVD amounts of content. Hell, fill up the blu ray is all that PS3 fans want, and if it takes 3 or 4 discs so be it. The main thing is, just don't cut the game short, just to make it easier to produce on the 360 because that's not fair to anybody.

Has anyone noticed that the only game that has been said to "require" blu-ray is MGS4? And having 60 million hours of cut-scenes in High def is the single, sole reason for that need (well, unless you want to switch disks, or install every episode...oh, wait...)

It's not surprising that the PS3 fanboys have started with their "ooooh, they will have to gimp it blah blah blah". No, they won't, because worst case scenario is that they will go back on this and actually make it more than 1 disk...oh crap, the horror eh?

As with every other damn game that's been out this gen (that has been multiplatform) the two versions will be exactly the same (or superior on 360, but i doubt in this case since it was a PS3 exclusive till now).

The funniest thing about this whole blu-ray farce is that it's not even required this gen. Yes, you can fit mega-highres textures on a blu-ray disk, much more than a DVD9, but people never seem to look beyond that and realise that it doesn't matter if you have 50Gb worth of textures if the hardware can't run it.

Any game that actually required 50Gb for textures and game elements (and not ridiculously long movies) would not run on a PS3 or an Xbox 360.

Blu-ray may be critical next-gen, but it's really not this gen.

I'm also really hoping they don't end up gimping them. That would suck, and hopefully it won't happen as you said. Otherwise I'm fine with it going multi-platform.

The PS3 has blu-ray because each of their consoles is expected to last 10 years and it'll probably be needed in 5 years or so. So don't bag on it.

Guess they won't be able to ship it to every region with 15 different language tracks on board, boo hoo. Do separate manufacturing runs for each region!

So long as I get both the English and the Japanese language tracks here in the US. FFXII's english VO was unbearable. I hope they at least tone down the Old English vernacular this time around, XII's translation laughably overused it, and ultimately kept me from enjoying anything the characters said... which is bad in an RPG.
