E308: Up close and personal new red and green controllers

This E3, not only did we receive megaton Xbox 360 software announcements, but we also received two megaton peripheral announcements too. Well, not exactly megaton in scale, but there are two brand new controller colors hitting retailers later this September.

High resolution pictures of he red and blacked controller as well as the solid green wireless controllers (with matching battery packs) can be viewed in the gallery below. If you're a Gears of War 2 fanboy, then we say go with the red / black controller. If you're all about saving the Earth, then go green with the green controller. Then again, if you're all about saving the planet we wouldn't recommend purchasing a factory manufactured petroleum plastic based product. We'd feel dirty.

both controllers are good, I think the green one is omg megaton, looks awesome. I need a new wireless controller so I will pick this up.

the GREEN one is awesome!! finally a reason to get a new controller since i'm tired of cleaning both of the white controllers cuz i dont know which one is mine (my bro doesnt clean neither one). plus green is my fav colour :P

Yeah, that is rather green... I'll probably still get one though, I do try to get all of the different controllers. I have the two Halo ones as well as the blue one, no pink though...

I know this probably sounds stupid but...If I have a white 360 I'm only interested in white controllers..the others just don't look right when it's all sitting next to each other.

understandable. I personally like having multicolored so i know which one is least beat up, which one is most beat up, which one to hand to my idiot friend who thinks the harder he pushes the buttons the better a player he is, etc.

Agreed. I want everything to look like it belongs together.

I'll be getting one of these for sure. I need a new one ever since the D-pad went out on my main controller. Yeah, I know the D-pad on any 360 is pretty crappy but this one..well, I can barely press down on it.

Anyway...I really have no idea which I want more. I kinda wish they would release a slick orange and black one.

hey the red controller will match the lights on the front of the console... but seriously they look shit if there were matching coloured consoles it would be slightly more acceptable. either way they will cost more than a normal one but look shitter

I know this isn't specifically in reference to this entry, but if you guys check out www.yahoo.com, one of the "news" stories is headlined "Sony Takes The Lead". The article is written by a total Ps3Fanboy who gives pretty accurate E3 converage, and then ends the piece (of sh...- j/k) by stating matter-of-factly that "Either way, this year's E3, so far, belongs to Sony...". What the hell? Check it out fellow X3Fers!

Strictly speaking on the subject of releasing gaming information DURING the conference, I would say yes, Sony did 'win' the battle of the briefings.

Microsoft's was no slouch; the reveal of the new 'Xbox 360 experience' sent literal tingles down my spine, but in terms of releasing new games information, the 360 found itself in second place in terms of the conferences. Nintendo whizzed the conference down it's leg.

I'm a 360 owner and lover, but I will admit the PS3 finally has games I'd consider buying the console for. It's about time too, competition wise. The last man of three in a race has the most catching up to do, and in that light it's hardly a surprise that Sony has some decent (looking) games on the horizon.

MGS4, Echochrome, Resistance 2, God of War 3, Siren: Blood Curse, M.A.G (maybe) and Infamous look like reasons to perhaps consider the console for me.

Don't get me wrong; the 360 will be my console of choice this generation due to Live and the games library to be sure, but I'm open to trying out new things.
My Wii sure as hell has no hope this year...I'm selling it.

I think they are pretty cool. Here's hoping that they are actually the color featured in the pictures. Not like the blue and pink ones from last year, those turned out more of a pastel color, instead of vibrant.

They should just make them in every color, I think the more customization the better.

I like how the article staes the images are in high res. Jesus folks they are colored plastic and don't match your console. I mean if you just have to spend money in order to try and achieve some happiness spend it on something cooler. I guess I just never understood how people can get so excited about dropping more money for something they already have just because it is offered in a different color.

you know what? I love green and I will not getting that controller until its used and cheap.., damn its ugly. why cant they give us a true green. they cheaped us with the sky blue too.., um hello royal? They should just make the halo olive green one readily availible.., I want like 4 of those! anyhow the red is pretty I'm def gettin that and maybe will get an extra to make my black controller ALL BLACK. WTH was the idea of putting the cheap grey nasty colored spacer in the BLACK controller. the elites all black could we not AT LEAST have gotten a completely black controller to match the system? Yah I didnt think so. :( forgive the min of rage.., lol black darker greens and darker reds are my colors so at least theres a red one to match my black one. I only got the sky blue one to make my roomies jealous [we're sooo an xbox 'family' and to keep them from swiping my extras. Game On~!

I noticed that there was a red one when Cliff walked out with it for the Gears 2 Demo

Hum... I'm a french videogames journalist and I'm pretty sure that these controllers are not the real ones, 'cause the images in HD are obviously photoshoped (textures, aliasing...), like old images of white controllers painted in green and red. OK, they will be availlable soon, but I think that these "photos" are for demo only, and I THINK that the color may vary when the real ones will be here.

I hope so. 'cause these colors make me sick, men.

I want them to release new colors on the wired controllers. They are far more comfortable than the wireless cause they don't have a battery pack getting in the way of your fingers.

its not pink... its lightesh red

Personally I love the green, but I read some article that claimed the US was only getting the red one. The green was supposedly Europe and Latin America only.

Has that changed?

I wonder if that "green" (lime green is more like it) control glows in the dark.

Hey, Guys, According to the press package I received from microsoft it states that it is only going to be available in Europe and Latin America. So why blog the green one???

I'm in need of one more controller so I'll be waiting until September to pick up an awesome red controller to use while playing Gears 2

i wish the red was a little bit brighter so it would fit in better with the whole red white and blue controller thing i'm thinking about starting.

At least I won't have to worry about losing my controller again.
