Exactly. Fable had very few enjoyable sidequests. People are comparing this is Oblivion's main quest, which is about 7 hours long. But Oblivion's main quest is about 10% of the game!

The game may end up being 20 hours long which is neat and all, but compared to other recent RPGs -- The Witcher, Mass Effect, NWN2 (and its expansion) -- it falls short.

I dont know if they have released the achievement list for Fable II, but I guarantee that if done well, the achievements will drive a good number of people to spend a significant amount of time on side quests. The end result being a win win for Lionhead and the consumers.

If someone wants to take the fun out of something...let them.
You can't stop them anyway.

Okay? I guess I'll do my best?

I honestly don't care. It was a joke.

Awesome! Games spanning over 40 and 100 hours are a little excessive! There are so many story RPG's coming... I would love to try and finish a few of them. Like a good movie. Who wants to start on only finish half a movie?

Speak for yourself. If an RPG is great fun throughout (like Baldur's Gate II), I don't care if it's 10 or 100 hours, it'll get played nonetheless.

It might take a few months to finish it, though.

I guess I'm just weird, but I'm not big on the big long 50 hour single player campaigns. 10 hours seems about right to me for single player, I'll leave the 1000+ hour games to multiplayer.

This is the golden age of gaming people. There's not enough time to play through all these great games if they're all 50 hours long. There's still like 20+ games I want to get through before the end of the year and that's cutting some stuff out that I was interested in.

To all of you defending the game, please stop. Mass Effect tookabout 20 hours for the main campaign if you actually spent time on it. Oblivion was around 30-40 hours (although with a warhawk that time could potentially have been cut to 5 hours, but not the point.....stupid horse....). 12 hours for an RPG blows, and frankly, no cutscenes blow.

Hopefully we will get back to 40+ hours RPGs someday...

You must have a lot of time on your hands then. Most everyone are busy and don't have 40+ hours to invest in one title. I personally would rather play a handful of shorter titles.. (GOW2, RE5, etc.) than one long ass one. In-game cut sequences are cool if short... if you are talking CGI... you may as well be at the theater watching a movie.

12 hours is fine for this type of title. Doing side quests probably stretches it to 20 or better. Like in the first Fable, I'll probably want to play it first as a good guy doing as much side stuff as possible and then fly through as pure evil to see the differences.

I'd rather that than a game that is too long. You know, those ones that start out fun, but are so tedious and repetitive by the end that you are only trudging on to finish it and see how it ends.

Yes, it is part rpg, but it isn't the type of rpg that lasts super long. It is primarily an action game with emphasis on NPC interactions. It isn't about collecting loot, managing inventory, cutscenes, fetch and kill quests, skill trees, etc. It has that stuff, but not in the quantity to stretch it out to 30+ hours like a typical rpg.

12 hours is okay, but it's still a bit on the short side for an RPG.

Still beats Fable 1's 6 to 8 hour main quest though... but that's not saying terribly much

I think someone mentioned it, but you can complete the actual game part of Oblivion in like 6 or 7 hours, yet I still spent like 100+ hours playing it. I except Fable 2 will have a bit of extra stuff to keep people entertained. Not to mention the replayability of being nice and then completely evil.

I don't think so. Some people are just trying to compare it to a typical JRPG, which is just plain wrong. In reality, it plays a lot more along the lines of something like Zelda, and I would be shocked if anyone has spent more than 12 or so hours playing one of those games.

Oblivion's main quest can easily be beaten in less than 12 hours.

I wouldn't worry.

Good! That means I might actually replay it. There's no greater bar to replay value for me than knowing I have an 80 hour quest in front of me. Though I see I am not in the majority!

Games are getting shorter folks...get used to it. And honestly, a game like this with 10 hours of main quest has at least 10 hours or more of screwing around/side quests. Also, the whole good/bad allows you to replay it once as a bad guy. Co-op too will add hours (see Gears of War).
20 hours for 60 bucks is a deal and a half let alone maybe getting 30 or 40. I can't play a game of bowling for less than 4 bucks now a days. And that takes about 20 minutes.
Overall my skepticism for this game has wained. I'm neutral on the product at this point and that's where I like to be before playing any game. I did enjoy fable 1 for what it was (though extremely disappointed by my second play through as it was all the same..even the story and quests despite being evil the second time) and I look forward to giving 2 a shot with an open mind.

The first Fable was about 10 hours, but I played it 3 times just to see the alternative story branches. The replay value makes up for the short story line.

I'm not too disappointed by the 12-hour main storyline. Indeed, if you play the game first through being good, do all the side quests and fiddle around with the world, you'll get a decent 20-25 hour playthrough for sure. I assume so, at least. Then, if the storyline truly branches into different directions through your own choices, you could easily play the game through 2-3 times afterwards. Not to mention all the hype about all the game's features; making families, getting wives, seeing the world evolve through your killings and whatnot etc... if they're true, that is.

It'd certainly be a let-down if all the features promised wouldn't exist in the world, or something similarly jaw-dropping (in a negative way). But I doubt it. Sure Fable 1 was quite short, but from what I remember, I managed to spend a decent 12-15 hours in it, plus playing the game through another time being a good boy. I'm 75% confident that the sequel will be bigger in many ways, more satisfying, deeper and exciting. I still have my worries, since Molyneux has promised many stuff in the past that didn't make the cut... hopefully he'd deliver this time around. I can't promise he will, but I still have a positive optimism towards this upcoming title.

I don't know if it's just me, but it's not the story of this game that i'm hyped about. It's the multiplayer and just becoming part of the fable world. I'm honestly more hyped about having a family, an awesome dog, getting a job, and eventually becoming king of albion(which is said to take about 1000 hours, but I would expect it taking about 100-150). Not only that, but this game is going to have a great deal of re-play value. So all of that plus the rest of the side quest, the story, and the hundreds of hours i'll probably put into mutiplayer In my opinion Fable 2 is going to be a long(or short if you wish) and amazing game.

I think fable 2 is gonna kick ass, much like the first one, (which i still play to this day).
So what if the main quest is only 12 hours long? side quests will add the total up to at least 20 hours, and then theres multiplayer (for those who have xbox live like me) and the multiplayer will add on hours of fun and excitement, and i dont care for those people trying to put it down, they can go die for all i care.
