LittleBigPlanet dev made Sony presentation in 2 days for SCEA
Following a LittleBigPlanet press briefing, we had a chance to ask Media Molecule's Alex Evans about their participation in Sony's E3 2008 press conference. (In case you missed it, a LBP level was made for the company's power point slides. We've embedded video of the level above.) According to Evans, SCEA approached the dev two days before their press conference. They spent the first day making the level and the second day tweaking.
We're hoping this sets a precedent for all future press conferences. Rare, we're looking at you to show how Banjo can make Xbox sales data fun.

Yeah that presentation was great. Still I'm disappointed at how that was all Sony allowed them to show at the E3 press conference. Personally I didn't give a shit about Massive Generic Name action Game.
I wanted to hear more about this and Killzone 2.
Hero @ Jul 21st 2008 4:05PM
And AGAIN, Star Fox gets no love. Not one mention for a new one.
Ass Masterson @ Jul 16th 2008 6:19PM
That took two days? Seems more a negative than a positive - it wasn't a complex level.

reviews, edits, revisions, data updates, signoff, refine, etc.
mr mobius @ Jul 16th 2008 7:02PM
But this was for a media event so it had to be pixel perfect and run extremely smoothly as well as look attractive. User generated stuff doesn't need to be. It's like the Mario levels where people design so Mario doesn't need to be moved to complete the level.
Snorre @ Jul 16th 2008 7:28PM
Do you really think he sat for 48 hours straight before the press conference?
Ghen @ Jul 16th 2008 10:02PM
If that took two days then the real game better have about 5,000 levels for all the g-damn time they're taking to release it.
Kellydude025 @ Jul 21st 2008 11:49PM
Yea they should have had a part with PSP software sales, and included buzz saws...lots and lots of buzz saws...
Joe Smith @ Jul 16th 2008 6:24PM
Or... how about we just skip the sales data at he press conferences? They could just do a handout and save a ton of time.
Waqman @ Jul 16th 2008 6:27PM
I doubt they would ever do that. Still LBP was an interesting twist to it. And the sackboy kept me entertained throughout.
What would have been sweet was if they did the entire conference through LBP, creating some really intricate levels.
And then only turned it off to show gameplay videos or trailers.
PeterF @ Jul 16th 2008 7:23PM
Nintendo's press conference would only have been 5 minutes long and just about some snowboarding mom if they did that!
Lijik @ Jul 17th 2008 10:50AM
I agree with this. Sony using LBP for theirs was a smart move. However when LBP is released, they're going to go back to powerpoints since they don't have to show how versatile the level editor can be.
Jody Anthony (gamertag and psn: JodyAnthony) @ Jul 16th 2008 6:25PM
that was the best part of all 3 of the big conferences.
4MyFriends @ Jul 16th 2008 6:37PM
The best part was the FF13 announcement.
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 16th 2008 7:14PM
I agree with Jody.
Sony should do all their presentations in LBP!
4MyFriends @ Jul 16th 2008 7:25PM
Oh look, I must have ticked off a few Sony fanboys in the audience. Since they want to act childish, I'll repeat what I said.
The best part was the FF13 announcement.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 16th 2008 7:34PM
I see 4myfriends is still wiping the spit off his face from the nintendo conference.
browntown @ Jul 16th 2008 7:49PM
Most creative presentation at the show. This game is awesome.
4MyFriends @ Jul 16th 2008 8:32PM
"I see 4myfriends is still wiping the spit off his face from the nintendo conference."
I see you're doing shitty 4chan level trolling as usual.
Noshino @ Jul 16th 2008 9:37PM
4MyFriends accusing others of 4chan level trolling? OH the irony
OddGod @ Jul 16th 2008 6:34PM
Anyone notice he said 5 BILLION rather than million units? LOL. He wishes. :)
jitty @ Jul 16th 2008 6:54PM
Yeah, I thought he said 5 billion when I was watching the live feed of E3, and this video confirms it XD
j.howlett @ Jul 16th 2008 7:18PM
the thing about that is i swear i heard something similar from nintendo but in reverse
Skor @ Jul 16th 2008 8:56PM
Glad I wasn't the only one.
OddGod @ Jul 16th 2008 6:36PM
Did anyone else notice he said 5 BILLION rather than million? LOL. He wishes. :)
spyker @ Jul 16th 2008 6:41PM
That was a great presentation :).
Lekko @ Jul 16th 2008 6:57PM
That's at least 47% better than powerpoint.
DAK @ Jul 16th 2008 6:57PM
This absolutely did work. I wasn't home to watch this live so I watched it once the presentation was archived and for the first time in press conference history, I watched with excitement about sales charts, facts, and figures.
I am not a fan of Sony, I'm a Nintendo guy and I fast forwarded when Nintendo did the sales information but not Sony which means Sony did something right and I say good show to them for this awesome presentation tool.
I second Ross Miller when he said everyone should do their presentations this way!
Kellydude025 @ Jul 21st 2008 11:48PM
agree 100%...
Jacksons @ Jul 16th 2008 7:05PM
It was a pretty darn cute way to do the boring sales talk.
navstar @ Jul 16th 2008 8:38PM
Two days -- but how many employees worked on it? If 25 people worked on it, I'm not impressed. But if it was done with one dude in two days, I'm impressed
thatguy @ Jul 16th 2008 7:20PM
It made sitting and watching "the numbers" bearable. Very creative!
Bluebrake @ Jul 16th 2008 7:38PM
That was a great presentation. It made the sales talk bearable while giving a neat demo of what LBP can do.
Superstar90 @ Jul 16th 2008 8:09PM
Little Big Planet is the PS3 game I'm looking most forward too? What I want to know is if the sackboys can do more than jump and slap each other. It would be cool if they could actually fight bad guys, so I could create my own platformer.
Ass Masterson @ Jul 16th 2008 8:21PM
Little Big Powerpoint.
But I'm still waiting to see exactly why it's being called a 'game'.
Eh @ Jul 16th 2008 8:26PM
This could possibly be the greatest game I have ever seen.
Too bad they didnt have sack boy present everything at the conference, that would have gone down in e3 history.
k04sm02 @ Jul 16th 2008 9:20PM
i may buy a PS3 for this....may.
Sesur @ Jul 16th 2008 9:20PM
Way to bore the hell out of me with sales data.... I just wish that presentation was about LBP not figures.
Maximun2k10 @ Jul 16th 2008 10:28PM
Still BS
superaktieboy @ Jul 17th 2008 5:59AM
this game looks finished to me OMG.. just release it already :(
anyway.. those sack boys are awesome lol.. they will always entertain you :)
