Miyamoto: 'We're making Pikmin'

Responding to a question at Nintendo's 2008 E3 developer roundtable about whether or not a new Pikmin is in the works, Miyamoto says he'll announce a new sequel when he's ready. Apparently he's ready now. "We're making Pikmin," confirms his translator. (Is this the megaton you have been waiting for, dear Fernando?)

Naw, I got turned off of the original Pikmin when partway through the original I realized I was falling behind and wouldn't be able to collect all the parts I needed to. Haven't picked it up since.

Yeah, same thing happened to me when it first came out... I looked at my save yesterday and I was on day 23 with only 15 parts, ugh. Playing it again, but using a walkthrough and replaying each day until I can get it within the time frame to get all 30 parts in 15 days. Since I just picked it up again, I had a little difficulty keeping up at first on the harder days, but it's more fun than I remember it being. Can't wait to go through Pikmin 2 after this, as I've never played it before.

I managed to beat the first one several days under the time limit. :S

The second one is more fleshed out, and there's no day limit (just time limit due to daylight). It's a helluva lot better than the first one (which I think suffered from launch game syndrome). If you liked the first one aside from the 30 day limit, you should definitely check out Pikmin 2.

When i was younger and less patient about strategy games, the 30-day thing clean scared me off of Pikmin, but i've found a passion for strategy games in the 7 years since

Never really understood that term, but yes, I'm quite happy to hear a new Pikmin game is being made.
I love that series and it remains one of my favourites from the last generation.

Hopefuly it has good use of the Remote however, not just standard controls. Pointer should be good for something.

Now we just need a sequel to that Pinball RTS Nintendo had.

I believe "megaton", in reference to video games, refers to a press conference years ago... I believe Nintendo made the statement that they had a megaton of an announcement to make...
Some people assumed it be huge things, like buying out Sega and Capcom (recall the Capcom 5?).
But... it wasn't... It was just some new games, I think.

So, the term is passed around as a joke for conferences.

I think the "megaton" this year was FF13 360.

As far as I remember, it was actually some magazine that started the whole Megaton thing... and it was a megaton, but only to them, because it was the announcement of some game involving the magazine in question in some way. Maybe the internets can be of more help.

It's like if Lemmings and Supreme Commander, in an act of extreme desperation, decided they need to explore their erotic interests in each other. In a moment of passion and bliss, they conceived Pikmin. On the flight home, the stork taught it how to control like a dream, threw in a slew of cute characters, and added a charming story. A few years later they had a baby brother. Everyone loved it because it was the youngest, and didn't have that annoying time limit. Mommy and Daddy really spoiled that one!

You may be more familiar with it's hard-boiled cousin, Battalion Wars, in which Lemmings and Supreme Commander had a little ménage à trois with Cannon Fodder.

I'm really sorry, I get carried away sometimes...

Except not. A Mario and Zelda game are given, because hey, Nintendo. Pikmin, however, never sold terribly well and so a sequel was never guaranteed. For people who enjoyed the game, this is very good news.

This is basically like when they said the Mario and Zelda teams are hard at work. It's not coming out soon like Animal Crossing. Maybe this is just damage control after they over heard all the up roar. He could have switched Pikmin with Mario, or Zelda, and it would have been the same thing. I did enjoy pikmin a lot, and I'm still trying to track down a copy of Pikmin two, so news of Pikmin 3 is great, but we knew it had to come.

Not a megaton but still awesome i love pikmin.This e3 has been really megaton less,the only one really was final fantasy xiii coming to xbox360.Wow has e3 really changed.I can't really complain i guess.We are still getting great games on all platforms,this his to be one if not the best videogame generation.

Sorry but if there's any system that has no killer app this generation it's definitely sony.

MGS4 is the only game that comes close to being a huge hit for the system and I think most people agree it's a niche type of game. Albeit a decent selling niche game.

I would go and list the vast amount of games I own for both my 360 and Wii but that's unnecessary really since you're a sony fanboy and would just ignore it.

Plus it would just make this a wall of words which I hate...

Please, stop thinking that there are a lot of good games on the PS3, specially exclusive games. MGS4 is the only game that is a AAA game on the PS3.

And what so good about Sony this E3? What did they show? Killzone 2, announced since 2005, and will be released in 2009, thats 4 years since the annoucement. LBP... already announced. Resistance 2? Already announced.

CGI teaser of God of War... and like you said about Pikmin, a game that we already knew was coming? Or a CGI trailer of MAG?

And just because Nintendo didn't announced games this E3, it doesnt mean that game development stoped.

There are still a lot of games coming, both third and first party.

Oh fucking god, I can't believe you just said Tmac has selective hearing when you just pulled this shit.

Here's the thing. I'm the closest thing to a rational Nintendo fanboy this site has (well, I was, before yesterday) and even I admitted to Nintendo's conference being an absolute crock of shit. Hell, Fernando even did - I was in a chat room with him the whole damn time.

Sony announced details. Sony showed games. Sony appealed to the gamer, even though their presentation was fucking boring.

Nintendo? What did they do? They smashed my hopes for the system all over the ground. The Wii had so much potential, but at this point, it doesn't have the games to back it. You could bring up a list (fuck, I own 28 games for my Wii), but the fact of the matter is that the Wii doesn't have near as much to offer to the GAMER as the other two systems on the market. Before yesterday, that could be disputed. Today, it's widely accepted as fact, and I don't see how it could possibly be disputed by anyone but those with a rose tinted facemask on.

My point is... there are good games for each system jordan. At least I have played the PS3, at least 4 days a week (my cousin has a PS3 and he lives a few block from here).

You need to give the Wii a chance and try some games. Yeah, there is a lot of shovelware games, but you dont need to play those games, just like any good gamer wont play those games.

Fernando, I'm looking forward to PLENTY of exclusives for my PS3.

There's Killzone 2, Resistance 2 (though that looked fuckin' bland and boring), Disgaea 3, FFV13, GW3, Yakuza 3, InFamous, and Wipeout HD, among others.

There are some Wii exclusives I'm looking forward to also, but not as many come to mind.

I have all of the consoles and I think the PS3 has easily the best software lineup. I think that Nintendo has the worst lineup of all of them simply because the system is not powerful enough to run the multiplatform titles like the PS3 & 360.

I have all of the big Nintendo made Wii games and honestly for the most part they are pretty over rated ... You see we all have our opinions ...

I think all of these games offer great and unique experiences and they are all exclusive to the PS3. Not to mention all of the multiplatform goodness and PSN titles.

Remember the poll that showed Sony had the highest overall ratings in terms of all games divided by total scores? The Wii had by far the worst due to all the junk games released. In all honesty the only great games are from Nintendo. I don't want to sound like I hate Mk Wii, SSBB, MPrime & Twilight Princess but they are not my favorite games.

Really I try to be nice to those who are nice in return. For example Fenix is nice. While I know he has a ps3 I respect him cuz he doesn't take this shit as seriously as you and tmac do. Plus he has never insulted me for being a fan of my 360. Same goes for Fernando and other users on this blog.
