While the Xbox fanboys here are annoying and should STFU with their PS3 digs, the Sony fanboy arguments are quite truly pathetic now. Face it, you (by 'you' I mean 'your mum') bought the wrong system this time. Get over it. Learn that it's a soulless lump of electronics made by a huge, faceless company that don't give a flying fuck about you and don't need you defending them.

- yours sincerely, a Saga Saturn owner

I want to feel sorry for Sony, but they put themselves into the position they're in. Instead of seeking what consumers wanted, they engineered a console with technology they wanted to push, at a price they just assumed everyone could afford, and just assumed people would buy it because it's a Playstation.

I've always contended that is the PS3 were introduced at no more than a high of $399 and then came down within a year or two, they could have totally dominated based on momentum from PS2 customers alone. The PS3 should have come with a DVD drive. Consumers wouldn't have cared, because nobody was really asking for Blu-Ray before the PS3 was released.

Basically Sony is trying not to bleed money while keeping a good game face on, and just trying to claw their way back into living rooms of gamers.

Sony only has themselves to blame.

Seriously, the fanboy wars are getting ridiculous. Both systems are great and each have their own pros and cons. In the long run, both systems will have most of the best games (since most of the best games are multi-platform), each system will have a few great exclusives, and best of all the competition between the two will lead to better innovations for all of us.

On Tretton's note, third party exclusives are slowly going to die away. Game development is far more expensive than it used to be and publishers need to go multiplatform to make money. Its just the current nature of this evolving business. Get used to it.

All and all, be happy with your purchase whatever it is because both are going to give you plenty entertainment in the end.

@snowblind

if you do a little research you will see the blu-ray is in fact the better quality HD format. the discs have a high quality plastic on them that protects them better. the bigger the capacity on a disc, the more damaging a single scratch will be to the data on it. also blu-ray is capable of many more layers than hd-dvd ever would have been. as far as actually picture quality though 1080 is 1080 or 720 is 720

This just in: Square was disappointed with the sales of their PS3-only games. So the disappointment runs both ways.

Good point. I should've said PS2-only. Although they've probably had good sales since PS2 had a very good install base (no such luck w/ PS3).

Does it really matter if it were released only on the PS3 yeah it would copies but not a megaton like Sony or Square would've hoped for.

Right now if square really wanted to make money they might as well port it over to the Wii and make probably a billion dollars. Also US gamers buy more JRPGs then JP games they might not get it as early but look at MGS4 a JP game its selling more over in the west than in JP because we simply outnumber them by millions of people.

Tretton said that Sony has "invested so much money in the [PS3] hardware" that it simply "can't write checks for exclusive software."

Well, maybe they shouldn't have put so much unnecessary technology into it!

Most people are using the hardware to play games. Blu-Ray is totally secondary. All those extra removable media ports are completely unnecessary as well, IMO.

hmm... the low attach rate gave me the impression that most people watch BDs on it, instead of playing games.

The only person I know with a PS3 said he bought it for BDs.

I've said this before - if Sony had not put Blue Ray into the PS3, they'd have released a year earlier, at lower cost, and they'd be winning this generation of console war, no contest.

Blur Ray may have helped the company get its foot in the door of media royalties, but it hurt the Playstation brand dearly - and in my opinion - brought it very close to finishing it off.

the ps3 install base is just fine, it is only 5.5 million less than 360. if you look at a time line the ps3 rate of growth is better than the 360.

Let's cut the crap...Sony is not dead, nor does the PS3 suck. Now here's the shocker...neither does the 360. They both have their good points and bad points. Sony fanboys: How many good games do you have compared to the 360? 360 fanboys: Have you seen side by side footage of Oblivion for the 360 and PS3...? PS3 smokes it in graphics clarity and rendering distance. Get over yourselves, no amount of bitching is going to put either company out of business, they're both here to stay for awhile. As far as the release of Final Fantasy Thirteen on the 360...Hell yeah!

ps3 version is not going to be superior as they are making it on pc development tolls .and they have not teleported to any console uptil this time.so its bull**it to say that one version will be greater then the other.ps3 users can cry ,because they were made stupid and dumb by sony.its not our fault(xbox 360 users).kick ass of sony instead.
