Kazunori Yamauchi: More Prologue, no GT5 soon, GT PSP still coming

We somehow managed to get Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi to slam on his brakes for a moment today and talk to us about his flagship racing franchise. According to the Polyphony Digital boss, his studio is focusing a majority of its efforts on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. In fact, he confirmed that the proper, disc-based Gran Turismo 5 might not even roll out before 2010.

In the meantime, Polyphony will continue to expand Prologue with additional cars, tracks, and features. Yamauchi couldn't speak to specific plans, but mentioned that an new update is planned for the near future.

With all of the work his company is putting into the next console GT installment, Yamauchi tells us that it hasn't forgotten the long-delayed Gran Turismo 4 Mobile for PSP. He confirms that the game – originally announced at E3 2004 – is still actively in development, although it isn't planned for release until after GT5. That would be 2011 for those with pen and calendar in hand.

GT feels dry to me. Like super sim, whereas Forza feels like it throws a little more fun into the game. Also it is a better game for newcomers to the genre because it has the assistance for braking, accelerating, or neither if you choose. Plus GT has way more cars than anyone cares for. Like crappy cars you have to start off with.

I'd rather have a shorter list of more fun cars than a laundry list thats 30% dull.

GT and Forza are both boring. I prefer something more arcadey, and more fun, like the PGR series.

You should try GRID. That's a really great arcade type game.

Well, I think it's obvious they're working on damage modeling. So that's what all you people whining about damage modeling get. You get what you wanted along with a ~2 year delay...

GT for PSP has been in development for over 4 years now, and will come out in 3 years. This game better blow my mind.

Also, by 2011 won't we be close to PSP2. GT PSP could very well be the first PSP game ever announced and the last PSP game ever released.

Gran Turismo 5 has just been announced for release as a launch title on the PlayStation 4.

...to be quite honest, I think the main reason for Prologue's release was that they're obviously over budget on GT5 and needed some money to keep work going on it. I mean, who could have expected that it would take this long?

I expect GT5--when it's finally released--to be the most absolutely gorgeous and realistic version of the game ever released, but that it will feel almost exactly the same as the prior versions. Which makes me wonder if Prologue's release was a bad idea...at least if you've been away from something for years, it'll feel more fresh when you get back.

Of course, I could be wrong, but we'll see.

I owned GT5P but had to return it and sell my PS3, 'cause online was so lame. Don't get me wrong, it is the best looking racing game...like evar! But looks alone don't mean shit.

GT (or the lack of it) is the #1 reason I never got a PSP.

you know what, i bought my PSP at launch BECAUSE of the GT Mobile launch title. ive been patiently waiting for GT5. and now they tell me, i may have to wait like another 2 years for them? its already been like 4!

as of right now, i dont care about Gran Turismo until it's on the fucking shelf.

Hey if you like racing games, you should get an Xbox 360. Because... you know... there's more than one available. And it's not an expanded demo, excuse me, prologue.

God Fucking Damnit! Quit Fucking around with the God Damn Mobile Shit! Quit Fucking Around With The God Damn Glorified Demo! Quit Fucking Around With Nissan and The Fucking GT-R UI since none of your True Fans can afford one anyways otherwise they wouldn't be playing A FUCKING Video Game to simulate the experience!!! Just FINISH the fucking game already!! It's the entire reason I bought a damn PS3 and now ONE fucking game is not gonna come out until 5 years AFTER IT WAS ANNOUNCED!! This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!!! Am I the only one who has lost all patience with PolyphonyD?

And for the record I've never sworn so much in a Joystiq post but I've had enough of this shit!
