Nintendo has sent their second text message out (here's the first): "After just 20 mos, Wii is the new console leader in the US @ nearly 10.9 million units, says NPD 2day". (For the record, that's 102 out of 160 possible SMS characters. There's no excuse to write "2day.") So to translate, the Nintendo Wii has finally overtaken Microsoft as King of America. Last we checked in May, Wii was at 9.5 million
Don't forget the Ps2 also sold millions, and most people say that's a core console.
You don't need to accept Nintendo is the King again, you can just look the other wa and pretend it never happen like Microsoft and their "The xbox360 is the best selling console of time selling 10.3 millions of consoles, and over the Wii that has sold 10.2, Guess you can see people love the experience we offer" slide for the press event.
Why we still have plenty of real games to play on 360/ps3. Let the casuals enjoy their toy for a few days until it either gets thrown into a closet to collect dust or just left by the tv collecting dust.
I agree, casual gamers are destroying us. While we are selective in what games we choose, making sure we play the best, casual gamers will buy any old sparkly crap, and a lot of developers are going "hey! thats an easier way to make money and it doesnt cost as much!" Kudos to the real developers that are sticking with us and their principles.
The whole notion of first or last with these things has never been relevant. It was something fanboys created years ago and the media hopped on the bandwagon. Companies eventually pretended to care to get said fanboys and media all hyped up.
The only thing they really care about is how much profit they can make.
4MyFriends - uh, no. Nintendo were the ones saying they "are not competing with Sony and Microsoft." You kiddies can't have it both ways - you can't say "we're not competing" when you're behind, and then change your mind when you have a brief spike in popularity.
thats why the 360 is trying to get the casual crowd. Its definitly competing with the wii. If u saw the microsoft conference at e3 you could see that. The ps3 on the other hand, is competing with the 360 to get hardcore gamers.
Actually, it does matter if you're first or last. My Dreamcast got last place last generation. Hell, most people don't even bring it up when discussing last generation. I didn't get any Square or EA titles and my console literally had no games left to play just a couple of years after I got it. It won't be so bad this time around since all the players have deep pockets, but trust me when I say that last place sucks.
The Conduit looks good, just sayin. It might be too late though. I kinda wanna sell it. I have a buyer already too. Would be sweet if MS bought Nintendo and they just made software. That way I only have to buy 2 consoles next gen and Mario/MK/Zelda/etc would be on MS's console. Just wishful thinking...
After that keynote and basically throwing a piece of shit in my face as Nintendo Abandons myself and many other ahrdcore gamer loyalists who have spent thousands on their hardware/software over the last 20 years I can honestly tell them to kiss my ass and shove their 10.9 million consoles sold right up their diamond encrusted ass.
Um... no... there is alot of good stuff comming. I just think they didnt want to be bothered with setting up flash, which they dont need to due to these sales.

At least I'm #1 in something. What did you do today? Eat an extra-large package of Cheetos?

They make them in extra-large? Thank god, that's soooo much easier than just buying three a day.

It's okay. Just because Bejeweled and Peggle have sold more than Portal doesn't mean they're better games.
Same goes for the Wii.

If you click in both the home and sleep buttons at the same time (NOTE: It only works on the 2.0 software, also it DOES work on the iPod Touch)

I don't see what the big deal is.
The real 'competition' is between the PS3 and 360 - the Wii is a completely different kettle of fish.
Haggard @ Jul 17th 2008 5:51PM
In many ways the Wii's closest competitor is the PS2; which it will currently have to sell 6x more to beat.
4MyFriends @ Jul 17th 2008 5:52PM
So dismissing the leader automatically makes the fact Sony and Microsoft are fighting for second place non existent?

And, lest we forget, the PS3 lost Monster Hunter 3 to the Wii, through a deliberate decision from the publisher

Then 3rd party quality on the next-box would tank, because 3rd parties apparently can't compete with Nintendo
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 18th 2008 12:33AM
The Conduit really doesn't look that good. The gameplay looks very bland/generic. I'd rather just play Metroid Prime 3 again.
However, I am happy about the prospect of a decent-looking engine for 3rd parties to use instead of just porting their PS2 stuff.
Russ Carroll @ Jul 17th 2008 5:34PM
So did the iPod and the PS2, so what's your point...oh wait...I see...
:)
Oh and Wii was at 10.1 in June (well .185) so I guess that means .715 sold in June?
