Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has settled it. "It" being the question of whether Xbox 360 Dashboard themes downloaded (and even purchased) before the upcoming New Xbox Experience rolls out later this year will be rendered useless with the switch to a different UI. The answer's a welcome one: they'll work just fine with the new Apple TV-esque interface.
To (literally) illustrate the point, Major Nelson uploaded images of the NXE with an existing theme applied to his flickr gallery. It isn't explicitly stated in the accompanying captions, but we'd venture a guess that the background image will change as you page through the new category "frames." With this mystery solved, you can now go back to complaining about all of the things you actually wasted money on.

I said this in another thread but I guess I can repeat it here as well.
I think a lot of people have forgotten that the avatars are exposed to game developers and can be modified through achievements. Think about it folks. The current look is probably a base model but I am pretty certain if game developers can modify the avatars by giving you items armor or completly different looking avatars, the last thing you will be thinking about in 6 months is how your avatar looks like a Mii.
I can see getting an achievement from Resident Evil 5 that allows me to add a chainsaw to my avatar. I can see Gears of War 2 (when cliffy gets around to it) releasing all the weapons and armor choices to outfit your avatar through achievements.

I've got news for you guys. Even if your themes work on the new system, you still wasted your money. Who pays for icons and desktop backgrounds?

Crazy xbox owners apparently. Plus they pay to be shown ads so they can play online also ::boggle::

The ads are only for game DLC, it's not that bad. Plus this new dashbaord seems to have done away with them all, which is a good thing. If I own Tomb Raider, I don't need to be told to go buy some DLC for it, and if I don't own it, I'm probably not going to be swayed by DLC.

Since I'm sure you don't own a 360 Steve and waves, and as such have no idea what you're talking about, let me clear it up for you.
There are hundreds of free themes and gamerpics on the marketplace. In fact, having both consoles I would say there are almost as many free ones on the marketplace as there are total on the PSN. The pay ones are just extras, you could never pay a dime and have more themes and gamerpics to choose from than you could ever possibly try.
As for ads, it's for new downloadable content on the marketplace. It's a GOOD thing. It means when a new demo gets released, you know about it without having to check the new releases section everyday or without having to look it up online. Frankly, without ads, I would've missed out on a lot of cool trailers/demos.
It's not like they're advertising for Wal-Mart on there.

"...all of the things you actually wasted money on."
Yes. One thing I will certainly never waste money on is an Xbox 360 theme. They're for playing games, not staring at the pretty wallpaper! We can do that in real life if we feel particularly brain-dead. I wonder what proportion of themes sold so far were bought when drunk/stoned/both..?
RANT OVER!
