Keep on waiting. Microsoft UNLIKE Sony is more than willing to shell out money for 3rd party exclusives even if they're timed (which this one likely will). Even if it's a timed exclusive it's still a win for 360 owners since the 360 will be the LEAD PLATFORM and the PS3 will be getting another port. All you can do is pray is that it's a good one.

But hey we can all have solace in the fact that we have nothing but big budget shooters coming our way since that's all Sony cares about now. Wooop KZ2, R2, and MAG.

Ok Michael 000 You're an idiot. It's not that Microsoft is more willing it's that they're more ABLE to.

32 Billion in Microsoft's reserve at teh start of this Gen.
Sony... Roughly 3 Billion

Microsoft 50 dollars a year minimum for Xbox Live Gold
Sony free

Microsoft charging for many themes and gamer pics
Sony free

Microsoft HD DVD player at 200 dollars (when it was first released)
Sony free (blu ray drive built in)

Microsoft making money on memory cards
Sony had non proprietary Mem card slots

360 Hard Disk Drive 180 dollars for 120 gigs
PS3 hard drive can be as cheap as 180 dollars for 250 Gigs and Sony gets no money from Hard Drive sales because it's non proprietary.

So... ya... Microsoft CAN charge for things like that, because they charge REDICULOUS amounts of money for stuff that Sony gives us for free.

STFU n00b you're opinion is mute. This is towards EVERYONE that doesn't realize how much value Sony has given us and at what cost to them to do what they have for us. Can you really blame them for not shelling out the 3 Billion they had excess in face of Microsoft's 32 Billion? Of course Sony's reserve had only gone down from their great gifts to us while Microsoft's reserves have only gone up due to their underhanded and unfair-to-consumer practices compared to Sony.

There's pros and cons. No one will truly be happy until Sony's PS3 surpasses 360 (which it's getting a lot closer now) and 360 starts to die out. (In which case Microsoft will throw money to fix the problem by making a 720 or something rather than actually be a decent company and just work hard to improve the experience like they always do)

michael000 I have a few things to tell you .

1. don't use my name

2(getting serious now ) pretty much from now on the PS3 will be the lead platform . This is BECAUSE the ps3 is harder to develop for . So making the game on PS3 THEN porting it to 360 is much easier than doing it the other way around .

3 . the 360's version will be a lazy port , and because of that it will be delayed .... even more .

4 . Only shooters how about LBP , Motorstorm , God of War 3 , and FF13Versus are all shooters aren't they .

5.Also , MAG looks like it can be one of the best games ever IF they manage to pull it off .(social gaming meets hardcore gaming , but it probably wouldn't work on 360 anyway cause everybody would be asses , I say that judging from certain 360 fanboys . )

It's getting annoying to see Square sucking dick for Microsoft. I don't have a problem with FF 13 going multi-console, but why are two Square-Enix games 360 exclusive? I know that 360 has a larger install base, but 360 + PS3 provides an even larger base to sell the games.

Nick, you hit the nail on the head there. This is all about money and apparently M$ threw some money out there for them and Square bit on it. If it was about recooping costs through selling games, why not make all their games multiplatform? Its because M$ isn't afraid to throw 30 Mill at someone to secure good games. Sony should take note, otherwise we are gonna be forever screwed.

I posted a comment in the Rock Band story regarding my thoughts on buying exclusives, but briefly.

I think buying 3rd party exclusives is short sighted and won't be sustainable in the future due to exclusives losing more revenue to the ever large PS3 install base. This is why there is a lot of timed exclusivity and exclusive DLC appearing now rather than fully exclusive games because MS can't fully compensate developers for the lost revenue.

Sony's strategy of investing in their own 1st party studios and IP is a better long term strategy.
I wouldn't be surprised if towards the last half of the PS3 life cycle MS starts to struggle to buy exclusives due to extremely high costs demanded by the developers, meanwhile Sony has developed a good base of 1st party studios and titles to work with.

Well it was kind of brief.

Yeah it sucks big time. Eventually though, the amount paid for an exclusivity deal will be surpassed by the prospective profits of developing for multiple platforms. Also keep in mind that as the days go by, it becomes easier and easier to develop for the PS3, which will incentivize game developers to take a multi-platform approach.

I'm reminded of six months ago when M$ paid off Paramount to go HD-DVD exclusive. A few months later the format was completely dead. I hope the same type of thing happens here with game exclusives.

Hey, want an even bigger game install????

PS3 + Wii + 360

And don't give the "Wii only has casual gamers, blah, blah, blah". For every 10 casual gamer Wii has, there are at least 5 hardcore gamers who will dig a FF right on Wii. Just look at FF Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon; VGChartz reports a 110k sels on japan, US numbers unknown or My Life as a King

Either Squenix are full of it, or all of these timed exclusives and full exclusives for 360, like Last Remnant, SO4 and Infinite Undiscovery should be announced for PS3.

/taps foot

Not happening? Hmm, seems like Iwata's multi-platform rationale for accepting who knows how many MS millions is a bunch of crap.

I wonder how many DVDs it'll come on? FFXII only squeezed onto a single DVD because the ran tiny CGI cut-scenes with massive black borders all around, and that was a PS2 game.

With HD cut-scenes and HD assets for the game too, I don't see how it could come on less than 5 DVDs, at minimum.

I've said this before in basically Joystiq's version of this story.

Sony could have used all the multi million dollars they are gonna spend on unknown games like InFAMOUS(the gameplay let me down a lot basically darkside of the force+Crackdown gameplay) on FFXIII I mean I thought they had some sort of relationship(business wise).

Well I realized what I just said is jibberish so here's a easy way of explaining it.

Sony funds FFXIII
SE knowng it will sell and have this deal with Sony(like Sucker punch and Level-5) wouldn't have released it in 360 form thus saving Sony from hatred by there own fanbase. SE will get money from Sony so it solves there money problem.

What will interest me the most now is which version will sell better the 360 or the PS3 in hardware and software.

Now on to my rant

But that doesn't explain why Sony ain't paying for exclusive but yet they buy Developers?

I consider 3rd party exclusives more important than first because First only shows this and that but 3rd also does that and can be compared yeah sure we can have exclusive wars like Gear 1 vs Resistance 1 but wasn't the war of Cod4 PS3 vs Cod4 360 producing better results?

I think Sony is forward thinking and MS not, which MS franchise can not go to another console? Halo and what other game (help me here, I do not know all MS properties)? Sony is applying the Nintendo way of work, lets create our successful franchises that is our property and those can't go to another console. MS will be always paying third parties, those third parties will become used to it, and when MS refuses to continue doing it, they will go

in my opinion, paying for exclusives is desperation

Sorry to tell you wrong but, Halo is not a M$ franchise, is a third party game developed by Bungie, and Bungie has stated the M$ is not their owner, just their first choice on developing.

And halo dooo can go to others consoles, prove is the canceled project of Halo DS, which was canceled cuz funds where frozened. Also, Viva PiƱata, there's a DS version comming out.

Halo is not a M$ franchise, that been on the XBOX since the begining, that another thing

Tretton himself said Sony cannot afford to pay for exclusivity at this moment. They have already spent a ton of SCEA money on securing the Blue Ray format, they are losing billions on the PS3 costs right now, and keeping Square Enix, who in itself is bleeding money, exclusive is a hard bargain.

If you want Sony to survive this generation and have a crack at second place you need to support them on their in studio first party games because they will not be able to compete with Microsoft on third party publishing this generation. Smart move by Sony on letting Squeenix go multiplatform.

Coming from a PC gamer who just recently bought a 360/PS3.
I do not see this as any surprise either. Think about it. I won't judge any fanboys or anyone but I think my opinion is quite more than opinion - it's fact.

-SquareSOFT originally built the FF7 game on Nintendo 64 hardware. Several Screenshots were released and gameplay videos.
SquareSoft suddenly revamped the game and rebuilt it on exclusive Sony hardware (PS1). The most popular reason was because N64 cartridges were expensive and could not showcase the pre-rendered FMV (Cinematics) we ALL know and love today. Do you think Nintendo fans didn't crap their pants when Square ditched? FF originally started on Nintendo after all

-SquareSoft ran into money problems in early 2000's and released that crap ass movie. Enix and Square were supposed to merge even before then. Enix almost backed out cause the money "was losing money" according to them. I don't blame them. That movie flopped big.

-The original director and writer for final fantasy 7 (He also..CREATED..the Final fantasy series) left SquareEnix quite sometime ago and created Lost oddessy and blue dragon for you 360 fans. His studio is not exclusive or anything.

-FF11 was ported to PC , XBOX360, and etc. Talk about exclusivity? Right..

So what can you gather from this? I could have said this in one sentence but...
MONEY TALKS. Square is a financially troubled company.
There's 19 million XBOX360's out there in the world versus 12 million PS3's. Even if Microsoft did not bribe Square (I am sure Square played coy and got a buy out for the $) - it makes no financial logic to NOT release on 360. I am actually VERY surprised Metal Gear solid 4 and MGO are NOT on the 360. Perhaps Sony spent their "buyout" budget dollars on MGS4? After all they are trying to appeal to FPS/Shooter gamers. You people should also realize most of us on this site mean nothing. We represent an archaic and dinosaur niche of the gaming population. Look at Wii sales. One final fantasy game will not make or break a system. Especially since it's multiplatform.

Hell, if FF7 couldn't kill N64 - Do you honestly think FF13 will?
Last time I checked, no one gave a rat's butt about X-2 or FF11 or FF12. At least in the same calibre of FF7...gee..that's 6 games ago..10 years++ ago..People live in the past. The FF franchise is not what it used to be.

This post is long, and I'll leave it with this. Playstion owners have FF 13 VERSUS as an exclusive still. Look at the trailer.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29006.html

Sure it'll probably go to 360 after 6-12 months but PS3 owners. Stop acting like it's the end of the world. Also ..screaming out "OMFG SONY IS SCREWED. SQUARE IS SO BANDWAGON. YO GUYS IM SELLING MY PS3 CAUSE OF THIS" Be anymore of a hypocrite?

Wow, thats a pretty impresive note you got here.

Yes, when I learnt that FF7 was comming to the N64 and then was canceled, I did enter on a rage state pretty ugly, jajajaja, btu for when I did, I already got it for PC. Man, I still had the whole thing on my box, but I think the 4th disc is not working anymore, xDDD

And also, as a side note, Hironobu Sakaguchi (the man behind final fantasy 1-7 time span) did not created Blue Dragon, that would be Akira Toriyama (sound familiar??? Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, Chronno Trigger art, Dragon Quest Art) but Sakaguchi did directed the whole produce of the game

The one thing that really makes me mad is the people in the US have to wait even longer for the game on the PS3. Because SE wants to launch the PS3 and 360 version in the US at the same time. SE the other day said Japan would see FFXIII a year earlier then the US because they want to launch the PS3 and 360 version at the same time.

I ask why can't the PS3 version come out in the US before the 360 version because the that one started earlier after all. Why make the PS fans have to wait longer just so 360 fans don't get mad. Because before E3 they did not know FFXIII would be on the 360 and now that they do. The PS fans have to wait longer to make the 360 fans happy.

In 2010, see FFXIII on 6 DVD (against only 1 Blu-Ray disc for PS3 version) will be really ridiculous and funny and will be the humiliation of xbox360 hardware.
And thanks to the fact that in Japan (where Final Fantasy sells more than America and Europe combined) will be PS3 exclusive (2009) and thanks to the fact that in America
and Europe the game will come out very late (2010) the Sony has not lost anything with this release multiplatform, because in 2010 is too late to be a system seller.
