New layout appears to royally suck. Miis and Avatars are fugging gay. I didnt spend $400 on my (twice bricked ~!!thanks RROD!!~) 360 to give a crap about a gamer picture / avatar.

MS, Put in a browser. Kill the blades. use the free space to let owners customize their backgrounds. Move these ads...I pay for the LIVE service..why are you still advertising in my face?

You guys are smart enough right? How about you do something that doesnt blow asscock!?

I'm a little confused.. and I know it's probably not possible, but the PS3 has an internet browser.. does that mean they could illegally stream Netflix to the PS3? O_O. It would probably allow Microsoft & Netflix to sue Sony.. but is it possible?

The PS3 internet browser sucks complete ass. It has an old version of flash installed and it constantly runs out of memory, so you have to close the browser and open it again. So no you can't stream Netflix movies straight through the browser, but you can stream it to the PS3 from a computer running different kinds of software. The only thing I use the browser for is to check if my buddies are online while I am watching TV lol.

I just don't get it then... Microsoft stated "The 360 will be the -only- gaming console to be able to use Netflix."

Those damned Avatards will be fine as long as when I crank on the fatness, the thing actually gets offensively fat. Missing teeth, racial sensitivity and gruesome modifications will also be welcome additions to the universe. If I get an avatard that looks like someone that looked like my neighbor before walking into toontown with his Wii in his hand, I'm giving my 360 to an orphanage.

i don't think there will be any interface for it seeing as how they've dropped HD-DVD support a while ago.

but they cant just drop support for the drive... MS isn't that stupid. They might not be updating it anymore but they won't make it not work. I'm guessing after looking at this more that another media icon (what do you call them now... blades still?) would just come up like under games showing that was in the tray.

I was under the impression you could choose to keep gamerpics or use an avatar, not have both.
Also they mentions that on the friend page your friend's avatars will appear on the screen, will there be a classic friends list or what because I have, like, 60 friends and don't want to have to flick through dozens of avatars.

What a bunch of whiny vaginys.

You act as if MS is making you pay $100 for this update or something. It's free and useful.

360 owners can be some of the most ungrateful fucks I've ever seen. We get an E3 showing that is substantially better than Sony and Nintendo and so many of you are still unhappy. No wonder why the PS3 is gaining ground, at least their fans are loyal.

The 360 already has a browser. I can't believe no one ever realizes this. You just have to use the Windows Media Center thing. You download the browser add-on for Media Center on your pc, then use Media Center on your 360 and presto. You have a browser on your 360. If I had the link to where you could download the add-on I would put it up but I don't so I apologize.

One of the things that really pissed me off were the lack of previews for themes and gamerpics. They really should show a preview of the items they want you to BUY! Hopefully they fixed it in this update.

One thing i did notice were no more ads, lets hope this doesnt change.

Yes I would like the ability to preview themes and gps. A simple thing to do really.
I've never bought a theme or any pics because of it.

Installing a game onto the hard drive is the best feature of this update. Now my wife won't keep asking me why the blow dryer is on.

The revamped interface looks much better then the blades but it still seems like you'll be scrolling a lot.

The avatars scream, "Turn the Wii off and play me!" Microsoft should have gone with game character avatars, just to be different. They stumbled on this one.

I don't get why people are so excited about installs. You still have to have the game in the drive so really it just cuts down on load times, I doubt it'll cut em down all that much...even downloadble games XBLA, PSN, WiiWare take forvever to load. To me it seems like MS is just adding this feature to cut down on RROD.

As far as avatars, the new community features mixed with these is just a rip-off of Home but done poorly. The avatars are ugly and useless. The new features are underwhelming and lame.

As far as the interface, reminds me a lot of the Iphone/XMB/Zune rolled into one. It could be nice to use and could suck major ass, just have to wait and see.

I'm excited for this update because I'm utterly sick of the current UI but here's hoping it won't blow.

it cuts on load times and wear and tear on both your Disc drive and game disc as it DOESN'T SPIN and doesn't make noise whatsoever during gameplay, offering a cooler, quieter and more dependable 360.

why not add a feature that improves your play session?

Still don't see the point, like I said it really won't cut load times that much and if MS had made a machine that actually worked properly (see: PS3) maybe this wouldn't be needed. Having to have the disc in there anyway totally defeats the purpose of this and renders it pointless. Like I said, It's purely just a way to cut down on their spending to fix more RROD's.

they are already improving the RROD problems with better hardware and the warranty fixes.

the PS3 currently requires mandatory install for certain games and still requires you to leave the disc inside (security/piracy purposes...like the 360 will have).

you still have the option to not install them on your 360 if you want the noise and longer load times. overall it seems like a better way to play games than before with no optional install, wouldn't you agree?

also, i don't think this would option would concern you considering most of your comments are pro-PS3 anyway.

to answer your original question of why people are excited about installs is that it improves their 360 play sessions because it was crappily built (there i said it. feels good right?)

and this option is a god send for alot of 360 owners. so please think before you post flamebait next time.

Well okay I guess it does improve overall playability but people are acting like it's some amazing new feature. To me, I'm like big deal...when 360 gets some good games and stops having so many shitty shooter games then maybe I'll play mine more but until then silly looking avatars, netflix (which I could care less about) and installs don't do anything for me. I was looking forward to hearing about some good games coming out of E3 this year and we got nothing that we either A) didn't already know about or B) could actually give a shit about.

For this, it's the only reason I'm even posting on here. The Xbox 360 has continued to disappoint me year after year. I have kept it just in case that one killer game that I just have to have (and is 360 exclusive) comes along but as of yet it hasn't happened.

And just so you know the installs on the PS3 are just as lame and are actually there because the blu-ray discs are TOO big for some games so to keep down on load times, they have to install certain things. This thing 360 is doing is totally different. While it's cool it just isn't something to be THAT excited about and seeing as all these people are so excited about something so trivial it just goes to show me even more that 360 is losing steam and just doesn't have much to offer anymore (not like it ever did for me personally though, as I said before). The 360 just doesn't have a diverse enough library of games and the ones that are multiplat I prefer on PS3 because I have more friends that have PS3's and because I prefer the PS3 controller.

cool, i'm glad you recognize it as a good thing. :D

as for the rest of your post, i can say the same thing about the PS3: disappointing games, games that are no longer exclusive that i can get on 360 anyway, prefer the 360 controller due to triggers and concave sticks for better resistance, and my all of my friends are on LIVE.

also among the next big exclusives for PS3 are 3 shooters: MAG, KZ 2 and Resistance 2, shooters with much less marketing power and style than Gears of War (yes, i'll pull the Gears of War toy card to prove my point).

but bottom line is: installing games on either platform is a good thing in the end. whether people get orgasms from the idea or not, doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. and we can go on and on all day with this pissing contest of which console is better, but see, it doesn't matter since we each have our own opinions and will each have a great time with the coming year (1st and 3rd party games will rock).

There new features that are optional, quit bitchin. The dash looks great and the avatars will be fun. If you don't like them don't do nothin to them, simple as that. This wont make hardcore gamers stop playing the 360 shut up and everyone copies everyone. No Nintendo didn't invent the avatars neither did Sony after they copied it. The guy who posted a page back was right you are ungrateful as hell. I'm excited about everything they announced especially 16:10 support. I may not use everything that is new, but at least I have the option to if I so choose.

Ok, I just bought a 360 earlier this week (Yay clearance sa- Er... Price Drop!), so I haven't really been following the news that closely. I always thought the blades were the best of the three's interface and am disappointed that they'd change it.

So, I'm just looking for a straight answer: Do you have to upgrade to the new dashboard? Will there be a way to maybe download the old one after you upgrade (ala using the traditional Windows interface in XP)?

Seriously, these Avatars are stupid, the layout is abysmal. The 8 person chat will be awesome, the dowloading is interesting, but aesthetically this is making me cringe.

what if the avater works different from others consoles. what if you are playing gears, your avatar gets the uniform of marcus. or playing NFL and the avatar has the jersey of your team.
or even your gamerpic as shirt stamp ??

could be?

The ripping to the HDD is probably another reason why Microsoft needed to "guarantee a minimum read/write speed."
