E308: Castlevania (aka Shanoa the vampire slayer)
7
Those of you who want to get to know Shanoa a little better should check out the vid up top, which features her kicking some undead butt. She might not bring too many new things to the Castlevania-verse, but she still looks like a pretty badass character. Besides, she "shall become the sword that clears away evil" -- what more do you want?
Order of Ecclesia is currently one of our most anticipated DS games, though, so do we really need another reason to convince you to watch this trailer? Just look at the footage.

(paraphrased) "Why a female lead for Castlevania?"
"Well because one our artists had made such nice skirt animations for this one enemy so having a heroine made him very happy."

The enemy in question was Persephone. It's true, it was one of best designed enemies I've seen, and not only for her animations. In Aria/Dawn of Sorrow, her guardian soul (the life-sucking vacuum) was quite useful.
The more Persephone souls you had, the bigger the vacuum was, until with 9 souls you also got a maid.
The best part was that, in DoS, the vacuum had other effects on certain enemies:
-It also absorbs flames, poison clouds, stone dust, and some projectiles, protecting you against enemy attacks (e.g. Ukoback, Gorgon, Catoblepas, Killer Clown...)
-If you use the vacuum against a Persephone or a Student Witch, she will stop on the spot and hold her skirt down, Marilyn Monroe style, squealing in a cute way.
-Some demons that disappear in a spinning vortex after you kill them, are instead sucked by the vacuum if you're using it at that moment.
-If you get too near a big enemy (e.g. Iron Golem) while using the vacuum, and you have 9 Persephone souls so you have the maid, she will cower and retreat a little.
These little tricks I discovered as I played, and AFAIK no other enemy has to such extent, are what made me think about the effort and care put into creating Persephone. She has a special place in my heart ;)

Shanoa
"I am the sword that cleaves evil."
Zengar Zonvolt
I think these two lines seem a bit similar. The latter is from Super Robot Taisen OG 2 and every other game Zengar is in.

Yeah, I knew I'd be buying this the moment the game appeared. Something about the formula just...appeals to me, I guess.
Though this Albus guy really does look like a Balthier cosplayer.
