Not surprising that it would sell better on the PS3, it's one of the only good games out for the PS3. Xbox owners had options and there were people like me who were more than willing to wait for Gaiden then spend $60 on Devil May Cry.

Etchasketchist is all over it in my opinion. I was reading latest EGM magazine and looked at games sales chart and noticed that Assassin's Creed was one of PS3's highest (and one of the few) games they had on list. While I think DMC4 sells well for a number of other reasons indicated here, popular Japanese game for example, I think Etch's point is one that isn't pointed out often enough.

AC was a fine game for some people but I thought incredibly mediocre. Why would it still be selling now and selling better on PS3? Unfortunately for PS3 owners they don't have a wide selection of quality titles to play. I own about 30 games for 360 (excluding xbla) and I wasn't a launch buyer, by about a year late.

But when I look for something new to play, I go back and find gems like Dead Rising or Condemned CO or Crackdown. I'm not forced to buy mediocre junk I'm not really interested in.

Does anyone know the reason why there is no FFXIII trailer on Xbox.com or Xbox Live Market place?

Its no surprise Sony are disappointed but i think a lot of people are thinking Sony are worried about this, which they won't be at all. Japan is where Final Fantasy will see its biggest sales. Not North America. Europe never sees solid sale figures (chart track don't release sales numbers for example), so it'll either do very well or just good. Even if a 360 version was released in Japan, Square clearly think it wouldn't be worth it because of the install base differences. They may even have a exclusive deal with Sony as a compromise for going multiplatform in the western side of the world.

Now in North America, 360 has the bigger install base advantage, so it makes sense that Square are following Capcom's foot steps and going multiplatform. They'll get more money, as well as opening the game up to more people, instead of limiting it to a single platform. CoD4 is a perfect example of maximizing your game's reach to people. Sure CoD 1 and 2 did okay sales wise but CoD4 has blown everything in the franchise so far. If they had released it only on PC it would not have seen the same sales numbers but by putting it on more than 1 platform, they increased the amount of people they were able to reach out to.

Due to the install base differences the 360 version should see better sales than the PS3 version in North America and UK (not whole of Europe) which is why Square are going multiplatform in the first place i think. Its a smart more. The real winners here will be Squarenix, not Microsoft or Sony.

I agree, the real winners in this situation are the console owners and the game developer. I don't think this will sell consoles for the 360, but it might lessen sales for the ps3. Everyone that i know who has a ps3 also has a 360. I will probably get one for the blu ray functionality alone. Either way the game looks amazing and it will look great on either console especially since square has had experience programming for the 360. I never have been much into the FF series but looking at this trailer i just might jump into it. My wife is a big fan of the Kingdom Hearts games, and i know they share a commmon thread with the FF series in some of the characters.

@ Matthew et al.

I'm tired about people talking about Fanboys who don't exist. I think the XBox is way overrated and the PS3 is underrated, naturally; I prefer the PS3. Yet I rarely see any rants from PS3 owners, only in the imaginations of X3F posters.

Really, who didn't see this coming? FF has been losing steam recently. Square needs to be on XBox. If you are a fan of Square, you are fan of this decision.

I could care less, but his generation calls for new exclusive third party IPs. Be a fan of the games first, consoles second.

@ Viva La Champ

you dont think it would have even more fantastic sales if it was multiplatform then? i would imagine that it would be an easy port to PS3. I think the PS3 userbase is a decent size by now. Realistically, whats easier...MGS4 to xbox or GoW2 to PS3???

to an earlier comment, no, FFXIIIVersus is still SONY only (which kills SE's argument that they're making games available for everyone considering Versus is still SONY only, and Infinite Undiscovery is being made with MS and 360 only.. I still think there may have been some cash transaction) But I don't think it's a big deal that others get to play game. The only game I could think that should be offered to PS3 only owners is if they ever make another Jade Empire. Am I the only one who loved this game?!?!?

lol square enix doesn't care about more people enjoying their games, square enix is only interested in the bottom line. We've got all 3 consoles at home so it won't make a difference which system it comes out on

I'm OK with FF13 going multi-platform, even though I prefer the PS3, but I still hope they manage to transfer it properly. I still don't regret buying a PS3 though since FF13 versus appealed to me more anyway.

Oh, good. I was just about to say I'm disappointed with Sony... uh, period. You know what? Take Japan, we'll split Europe, and never show your face inside my borders again. If we want to play a game based on your acid trip with the neighborhood pedophile, we've got your number. Oh, and take anime with you, too- enough is enough with that crapanese nonsense.

However, I will trade you rights to rock the Nike Airs for the right to keep Japanese BBQ and Sushi.

And the option to trade second round draft picks in 2010.

Bet the new install feature coming with the Dash board update is to lessen some of the CD swapping Final Fantasy 13 is going to require. Install the game engine onto the harddrive, load the game world from the DVDs.

If Square Enix respects Sony, they should make it time exclusive on the ps3. We 360 users can wait. Simultaneous release for both system is just disrespectful when it was first annouced to be ps3 exclusive.

"While popular theory is that Microsoft paid Square Enix off for its recent handfull of upcoming releases, word around the industry campfire points at a decision made by Square Enix months ago to focus on multiplatform development that saw Final Fantasy XIII land on the Xbox 360. With a high install base and solid attach rate for the Xbox 360 in North America and Europe many developers are forgoing exclusivity in order to lessen the blow of "next-gen" game development."

If that were true, the PS3 would be seeing a release of Infinite Undiscovery. Not to mention most third party releases that come out on both systems tend to sell better (better, not more; we're talking ratios here) on the PS3 (from what I recall at least).

"Dirty said:
Also DMC is huge is Japan where the PS3 has a big install base."

Odd, I thought Jack Tretton was quoted saying:
"He was quick to stress that the game remains a PS3 exclusive in Japan, but that "seeing as there isn't that big of a [PS3] installed base in [there], I don't know how big of a coup that is for us."

Is there something you know that he doesn't?

lol
thats my personal opinion.

I understand they're disappointed,
but its their (SCE) fault.
Look at the their hardware(PS3) sales....
And development for some games being discontinued (like Getaway)

Seeing those negative things....
you can't really blame Square-Enix
making FFXIII multiplatform...

I am a ps3 owner and I must say I doesn't bother me to s see FFXIII come to the 360 because ps3 has so many great games and features coming this year like little big planet and playstation home it doesn't even matter.
