June NPD: PS3 gets Metal Gear bump, Nintendo makes devilish deal

The greatest thing about the Wii's impressive numbers every month is that the people buying are increasingly more and more the core gamers that just slipped away from gaming after the SNES/PS1 early days.

Everyone thinks the only ppl buying them are absolute non gamers that don't know what a Mario is. Not true.

It's really the ppl in the know about tech and wifi and old school gaming but just didn't care for the last few generations of it.

360 didn't have any major release outside NG2 this month, PS3 had what is arguably their biggest title helping it. I would hardly call this "owned"

I like Ninja Gaiden II, thank you very much. If it sucked so much, there wouldn't be as many people playing through it multiple times to get the Master Ninja achievement. And it's a nice respite from my Halo 3 multiplayer sessions, but you also probably think that sucks as well. Oh well, I'll be enjoying myself while you waste your time sipping hatorade.

Exactly, only the most HARDEST OF HARDCORE gamers know that there aren't any good games coming for the rest of the lifespan of a not even two year old system because they only showed three first party games at a video game convention. Obviously.

There really are no games for the hardcore gamer on the Wii. Yet. I wish Nintendo would have shown off Mad World and The new Call Of Duty instead of Wii Music, Shaun White snowboarding & Animal Crossing. Hell even World Of Goo would have been nice to see. That is my most anticipated Wii game along with Wario Shake & The Conduit (which were also absent).

are all the closest things to something the more hardcore crowd would want. They are all good games but they also cater to the more casual gamers. Thats my biggest issue with Mario kart. They tried to appeal to everyone with that title.

I have not played Fire Emblem, Excite Truck or Batallion Wars 2 for the Wii although they look interesting. Zack and Wiki is a damn fun game but that is also more of a pseudo casual game. The best examples (of hardcore titles) are probably No More Heroes & Manhunt 2. Its to bad that one had horrible advertising and the other was just an awful game in general.

Who ever said anything about older gamers? The topic here was clearly "core gamers", as in non-casual gamers. Besides that though, the Wii has the lowest average age of owner, so I'm not sure what the hell this "they grew up and got a life" crap you're spouting off is. Again, what are you talking about? If anything, you're making MY point here. They're not going to pick up an EGM or check IGN, because they're not core gamers which, again, is clearly what the topic of conversation was here.

The bottom line is the statement that more and more core gamers are buying into the Wii now. That seems to be the opposite of the truth, if anything. The more time goes on the more and more pub the Wii gets as the console for non-gamers and the more and more young girls and old parents that have never touched a videogame continue to buy into it. We see casual titles selling like crazy on it with nothing but more casual titles on the horizon, and there's a reason for that.Right again. You mean how you bitched when I brought up the Wiis attach rate? And how you claimed the numbers where inflated by Wii Sports (bundle game) and Wii Play (game that comes with controller). If those don't count, then neither does the HALO 3 game I got in my 360 bundle, or The Eye of Judgment since it comes with the PS Eye.

Killer 7, No More Heroes, Beyond Good and Evil, all had good reception and poor sales. 2 of the 3 were published by Ubisoft. Why were the sales poor? Because they are EXTREMELY niche. Same reason Atlus doesn't break into the top 10 with Izuna, Etrian Odyssey, or Trauma Center, they have a small American market, but go over like the dogs bullocks in Japan and that's how they make their money.

Ninja Gaiden 2 did suck.

If the PS3 stays up there this month, then you can say the 360 got owned, if it drops back down to where it has been (which it most likely will), then the PS3 only gets the bronze trophy.

The sales of MGS 4 were pretty impressive even for a "niche" game as you call it.

$250.00 x 666K = $165,500,000
$400.00 x 405K = $162,000,000

A lot of those sales were probably the $500 MGS 4 Bundle. My point is that the Wii is $150.00 cheaper so it should sell more. The companies generated roughly the same gross income from this past month. The big difference is Sony is still selling the PS3 at a loss where as Nintendo is (rumored to be) making around $100.00 per console sold in America.

Obviously the systems cater to different crowds. With Nintendo controlling supply stateside to make more money off each console sold in other regions it is an amazing phenomenon. I do not think the 360 or the PS3 could ever achieve those sales numbers. They just do not cater to the same crowd.

Yes like I said in my post the Wii is around $100.00 profit per console where as the PS3 is still losing money or it is making very little per console. If the PS3 were $249.99 it would also sell like crazy.

Everyone already bought GTA4, not many people left that wanted it and didn't have it already.

Wii games stick around because half the Wii owners don't even know that a supposed AAA title had even come out within the last month and it's new to them.

The fact that it is highly overrated might be a reason.

Probably has more to do with the amount of great titles that are released on a monthly basis. GTA IV is not an over rated game (IMO). I just think the majority of gamers today have a big case of ADD.

GTA IV will reappear around the holidays. They chose a really awkward time to release it. Nothing else was out/coming out, so everyone who wanted it probably went and got it. Probably would have been better if there was something that spaced out the sales over weeks, like releasing it closer to MGS4. There will still be those people who get a new 360/PS3 for Christmas and go out to buy it, though

I think it's because GTA is rather overrated. It's inferior to its PS2 predecessors, which were not made of much.

I'm no Wiifanboy, in fact, if you noticed a trend in my posts I'm more a DS/PSP guy, but the amount of trolling Vcize has quite remarkable. Never before have I seen such insecurity over sales of a product. Anyway, I think GTAIV is horribly, horribly overrated, but I think we could both agree it's supposed to be a 'hardcore game'. It's ridiculously easy and I would say it may just qualify as a casual game. Whereas Zack & Wiki gets pretty damn difficult, inspite of the cutesy casual facade.
