LOL at Wii outselling both 360 and PS3 combined! Wii had no new big release last month while the HD systems had MGS4 and NG2. If it wasn't for the Wii, we'd be in the middle of the second videogame crash right now!

I'm pretty sure that no one is questioning whether MGS4 is bigger than Halo or not, it didn't get nearly as much advertising, and I'm sure the fan base isn't as big.

hmm 405 ps3's with metal gear, a "niche" game. Let's see how GoW3 and Killzone 2 do.

527 360's with halo, a much more mainstream first person shooter that was advertised every single place you thought to look.

Not to mention Halo3 was a FIRST party flagship title, while metal gear was third party.

Sorry, not impressed. And you ARE pretty insecure. Most of the ppl here are 360 fans anyway, so were shootin for an easy ego boost?

Wasn't there a price cut in august, and halo 3 is a bigger franchise, though not of the same quality, though multiplayer is really fun, played infection for the first time today had a blast. Shouldn't the 360 have sold more since halo 3 is like such a huge game

@ J, those two games are pretty niche as well, don't expect a huge boost, but those games will be good, but cater towards the current userbase a bit more.

Noticing an awful lot of Wii games in the top 10 lately. So, even though we've known this for a while, does this totally invalidate the whole "Wii Sports machine" arguement?

Don't those attach rates include Wii Sports and Wii Play, even though they're not actual game sales?

If so, the Wii number is WAY inflated.

Wii play is actual game sales, just because its a value pack game, doesnt make it less of a sale. By that logic every game with a packaged extra shouldnt count as a sale.

That's bullshit. People are just deciding to pick a cheap ass game when they need a new controller since it's only a few buck more to get one with a game. If it wasn't packed with the controller it would have fallen off the charts many months agao.. it's a crappy game.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT WHETHER ITS GOOD OR NOT. Its about whether or not it counts as a game. It gets sold at GAMEstop, I have to go to the GAME section of Target or Wal-Mart to get it. Nobody in the history of mankind would call it a good game, but its a game non the less

The sales are HIGHLY misleading though. The vast majority of the people buying Wii Play are actually buying it because they need a controller. Getting the cheap game is just a perk.

I have a few friends who bought the Xbox vision camera because it came with a free year of Xbox Live. I would guess a lot of people did it for the same reason, and have never touched the camera since. People like free things, so packaging in something with a game means its probably going to sell better.

I'm a stats guy and I hate being given ratios and percentages without anything to tell me how many people were surveyed, studied, etc.

I have to ask all the Wii enthusiasts in this post... It's great that the Wii continues to sell like hotcakes and all, but are you really satisfied with what this holiday season is bringing you on your Wii? Maybe I'm the weird one, but I am still quite disappointed. It really baffles me how seemingly every Wii owner here can so vehemently defend the Wii while I sit here completely let down by its upcoming games.

...It's just me, isn't it?

Anyway, it's good to see such a healthy boost to most of the consoles.

i have an ever growing backlog that needs attending, so I guess you can say I am happy I don't have all these games coming this holiday. It'll let me catch up on Okami, Metriod Prime, Deadly Creatures, de Blob, etc.

Those who are buying Wii nowadays... You wont find them on Joystiq. You have better chances asking the questions on e.g. www.cooking-for-milfs.org and www.grannys-of-texas.net which of course do not exist.

I gather most people buying Wii now have little/no clue about Internet and reviews and NPD and buy things at face value.

Most Wii owners do not know about the upcoming titles and do not follow gaming news like that; IOW they do not read sites like Joystiq so how would they know about these games, unless a friend of their (who is more into it) tells them.

The other thing is this. My niece played a few games on her ps2 and played them a lot. DDR, that sing song game, the sims.... pretty much those games exclusively. That the PS2 had a weak offering in Christmas of 2XXX mattered not at all to her because she was too busy playing those games to care. She wasn't bored with them.

The most interesting result of these numbers are spots 8,9, and 10 on the software charts.

It shows that the majority of people have no interest in the super-charged graphics the 360 is capable of because the vast majority of people can see the shallowness that lies beneath. Of course, there are other factors in play (the type of game the Lego series is, price point) but I believe my point stands up to scrutiny. Lego Indiana bombed on the 360 while it triumphed on the DS, Wii, and PS2. It just goes to show the big mouths on this site, spouting hi-def this and polygon-that, are really the boorish minority.

one clarification, I believe the MG4 numbers do not include those sold with the hardware bundles, So I bet it did about 850k.

Im real curious to see how it sells in the coming months, Im guessing it goes down to about 150k next month

I don't think that you can only lay PS3's bump last month at MGS4's feet. June was also the month that had all of the $100 gift card offers as well. So saying it sold well at four and five hundred dollars is great, but most people that bought it in June probably rationalized it as buying it at three or four hundred dollars. I know the $500 MGS4 bundle + $100 gift card was hard to walk by for me when I saw it at Wal-Mart.
