David, if you ever, EVER, refer to Castlevania Judgment a "3D Fighter" again, I will cut your ass.

granted, I've only seen screenshots, but is this not a fighting game in the classic one on one beat-the-other-guy-until-his-health-bar-is-depleted sense?
It even looks like combos and super meters are part of the play.

Yes, but it also has elements of Zelda and other games. You can move freely around in 360 degrees. You can pick up items and use them. Can't do that in Street Fighter.

So what would you prefer, "3D Arena Fighting?" That's what Powerstone gets labeled as, and as far as I can tell from screenshots, this looks similar.

If the game plops you down in an arena with one other person/AI and the way you win is by defeating that one other person/AI by attacking them until their lifebar goes down it's a freaking fighter. If they can move on three axis during this then it's a freaking 3D fighter. I don't see how picking up objects or the ability to turn your back on the enemy change this, they just make it a 3D fighter with some changes.

That sounds an awful lot like Quake Arena, but with only one AI person. So is Quake Arena a 3d fighter? NO

Castlevania has always had a health bar, why would they change it for this?

I remember a Ratchet and Clank game having levels like this, you were dropped into an arena and had to fight waves of robots and one final bot for cash. Did that make it a fighter? NO

Tekken (a 3D fighter) only allows you to move left and right, towards or away an opponent. The up and down buttons are used to jump and crouch. In this game, you can traverse the whole landscape at anytime, not just a straight path to and from your opponent. You also interact with the environment, instead of it just being something developed to add scenery to the game (hence the picking up items)

It has fighter elements, but it has more of an action game feel to it.

1)Quake arena doesn't have life bars, it's in first person, and it's focus is not 1 on 1- that's why it's not a fighter.

2)Yeah and I'm sure Castlevania has always had 2 life bars with a timer in the middle from the beginning.

3)It's called a boss battle, asshat.

4)You just described Power Stone... a 3d fighting game.

Shaq-Fu...

1. Konami themselves are labeling this game a 3D fighting game. What you're doing here is like if I picked up a copy of NFL Street in gamestop and lectured them for calling it a Sports game. "It's not a sports game, it's an action arcade battler."

2. You're defending shit. Period. Take a look at all these characters ORIGINAL designs... now look at the travesties they've become.

3. Power Stone is a FUCKING FIGHTING GAME. To quote the dreamcast package, first line, of Power Stone 2...

"The world's most revolutionary fighting game does it again!"

"Power Stone 2 is the future of Fighting Games!" - Gamefan.

I'm with Sheppy here. Your arguments about this not being a 3D figher are plain silly. It is what it is, whether you like the genre title or not.

He even said at Konami's press conference that it is a "3D versus action game." Hmmmmm, 3D versus ACTION game.

wait... is MK Armageddon a fighter then? or is it a 3d action arena... 360 degrees of movement, item pick ups, health bar, timer. but i think from here on out ill lump it in w/ prince of persia because you get knocked off platforms it must be a platformer. and as for the creator saying its a 3d versus action game, could it be a BAD TRANSLATION? and btw ign sucks for info.

also shaq-fu owned.

Its funny cuz Shaq-fu was a nickname shaq gave himself when he was a short-lived member of the (even shorter-lived) goofy ass hip hop troupe Fu-Shnickens.

The game, if there was one, came substantially later. So telling ShagFu that he can't judge a game based on his name makes no sense, tmacairjordan87.

By the way. HORRIBLE NAME. Pick ONE basketball player. Turd.

Shaq-Fu, you're a sorry excuse for a troll if I've ever seen one. Since your registration such a short while ago - and especially during this week alone - you have consistently displayed a lack of appreciation for logic, intelligence, or reason. It seems as though you chose your screenname to reflect the quality of your posts, but really, Shaq-Fu is probably too prestigious for you.

I think they hate jaded gamers who only want them to make the same damn game over and over again.

For some companies, that's fine. Some like to try new things. Ya know, experiment. Judgement could be horrible, or it could be awesome. But all that happens is the majority of people on sites like this is hate the game before even playing it or even knowing much about it!

Another example: Sonic Unleashed. People piss and moan about the werehog thing before even knowing how it plays (sure, I admit the concept of a were-Sonic is silly, but it could still be fun). No, all people want to do is PRESS RIGHT TO WIN.

I don't see how this game is considered "bad" in terms of graphics. But, then again, I'm a Wii gamer who is used to lowering my standerds. The last 3D Castlevania I played was Curse of Darkness, so this can only improve. Castlevania will always be a series that performs best when in 2D.
