Overheard@E3: If they make fun of it, kick them

And, before you ask, no we did not make fun of it. We waited until we left their space before laughing.

Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 12:08AM
David, if you ever, EVER, refer to Castlevania Judgment a "3D Fighter" again, I will cut your ass.
notnato @ Jul 18th 2008 12:30AM
granted, I've only seen screenshots, but is this not a fighting game in the classic one on one beat-the-other-guy-until-his-health-bar-is-depleted sense?
It even looks like combos and super meters are part of the play.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 12:33AM
Yes, but it also has elements of Zelda and other games. You can move freely around in 360 degrees. You can pick up items and use them. Can't do that in Street Fighter.
Jacksons @ Jul 18th 2008 12:38AM
So what would you prefer, "3D Arena Fighting?" That's what Powerstone gets labeled as, and as far as I can tell from screenshots, this looks similar.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 12:54AM
I would prefer that very much. Thank you for pointing out the similarities
bnpederson @ Jul 18th 2008 1:40AM
If the game plops you down in an arena with one other person/AI and the way you win is by defeating that one other person/AI by attacking them until their lifebar goes down it's a freaking fighter. If they can move on three axis during this then it's a freaking 3D fighter. I don't see how picking up objects or the ability to turn your back on the enemy change this, they just make it a 3D fighter with some changes.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 2:29AM
That sounds an awful lot like Quake Arena, but with only one AI person. So is Quake Arena a 3d fighter? NO
Castlevania has always had a health bar, why would they change it for this?
I remember a Ratchet and Clank game having levels like this, you were dropped into an arena and had to fight waves of robots and one final bot for cash. Did that make it a fighter? NO
Tekken (a 3D fighter) only allows you to move left and right, towards or away an opponent. The up and down buttons are used to jump and crouch. In this game, you can traverse the whole landscape at anytime, not just a straight path to and from your opponent. You also interact with the environment, instead of it just being something developed to add scenery to the game (hence the picking up items)
It has fighter elements, but it has more of an action game feel to it.
Shattercross @ Jul 18th 2008 4:18AM
1)Quake arena doesn't have life bars, it's in first person, and it's focus is not 1 on 1- that's why it's not a fighter.
2)Yeah and I'm sure Castlevania has always had 2 life bars with a timer in the middle from the beginning.
3)It's called a boss battle, asshat.
4)You just described Power Stone... a 3d fighting game.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 18th 2008 7:37AM
Shaq-Fu...
1. Konami themselves are labeling this game a 3D fighting game. What you're doing here is like if I picked up a copy of NFL Street in gamestop and lectured them for calling it a Sports game. "It's not a sports game, it's an action arcade battler."
2. You're defending shit. Period. Take a look at all these characters ORIGINAL designs... now look at the travesties they've become.
3. Power Stone is a FUCKING FIGHTING GAME. To quote the dreamcast package, first line, of Power Stone 2...
"The world's most revolutionary fighting game does it again!"
"Power Stone 2 is the future of Fighting Games!" - Gamefan.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jul 18th 2008 8:46AM
It's a 3D fighter.
PS: I'd really hate to be in your position right now. Everyone seems to hate your guts.
Duke @ Jul 18th 2008 9:47AM
I'm with Sheppy here. Your arguments about this not being a 3D figher are plain silly. It is what it is, whether you like the genre title or not.
Jhongerkong @ Jul 18th 2008 12:08AM
To which one employee raised his sword and gallantly said "I HAVE THE POWWWEEERRRRR!!!"
DangerMouse @ Jul 18th 2008 12:17AM
And the other one pulled out her taser.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 18th 2008 3:25AM
I can't imagine a bro dumb enough to tase He-Man.
DangerMouse @ Jul 18th 2008 12:10AM
I know they gotta to something with the franchise when their 3D adventure games fail, but fighting? Ugh. They should've done track and field.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 12:19AM
Did you not read my post? Not 3D fighter
Street Fighter IV= 3D fighter
Castlevania Judgment= 3D action

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Hell with your post! thats a 3D fighting game and you, neither a nazi will tell us how the hell we call it!
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 2:37AM
How about IGA? The man who MADE the damn game? Does his opinion count or is he a wapanese freedom hater?
He even said at Konami's press conference that it is a "3D versus action game." Hmmmmm, 3D versus ACTION game.
John @ Jul 18th 2008 3:51AM
I think the guy who names himself after a fighting game that was the singularly biggest fail in gaming history has no credability to categorize fighting games.
Seriously quit being such a fucking bitch.
Shattercross @ Jul 18th 2008 4:05AM
3D versus action game sounds alot like fighter to me.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 4:59AM
Maybe because fighter is a sub genre of Action? hmmmmmm. Close but not quite Shatter
And John, I think somebody who takes a generic name is a fat, pompous, American douchebag.
Assumptions are Fun!
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 18th 2008 8:45AM
Jesus, your comments are about as bad as the game your name represents. Give it up already.
deaftly @ Jul 18th 2008 12:24PM
Shaq Fu was the greatest 3D fighter of all time
John @ Jul 18th 2008 2:35PM
I am a pompous American, but I've been going to the gym and you already have the king douchebag crown, so it looks like you are about half right.
Tim The Enchanter @ Jul 18th 2008 3:10PM
deaftly, Shaq fu was not a 3d fighting game. It was a 3D versus action game. BIG difference. Oh, wait...
vulgardaclown @ Jul 18th 2008 4:59PM
wait... is MK Armageddon a fighter then? or is it a 3d action arena... 360 degrees of movement, item pick ups, health bar, timer. but i think from here on out ill lump it in w/ prince of persia because you get knocked off platforms it must be a platformer. and as for the creator saying its a 3d versus action game, could it be a BAD TRANSLATION? and btw ign sucks for info.
also shaq-fu owned.
vulgardaclown @ Jul 18th 2008 5:02PM
my bad mis read IGA as IGN lawl nevermind that part
Dick @ Jul 21st 2008 5:15PM
Its funny cuz Shaq-fu was a nickname shaq gave himself when he was a short-lived member of the (even shorter-lived) goofy ass hip hop troupe Fu-Shnickens.
The game, if there was one, came substantially later. So telling ShagFu that he can't judge a game based on his name makes no sense, tmacairjordan87.
By the way. HORRIBLE NAME. Pick ONE basketball player. Turd.
BananaBoat @ Jul 18th 2008 12:19AM
I was actually hoping for a Castlevania Go-Kart racing game. Oh well
juju187 @ Jul 18th 2008 6:46PM
castlvania extreme vollyball
Wiinterfang @ Jul 18th 2008 12:19AM
At least they done have the horrible 8 bit sprites of the 2D games.
Wiinterfang @ Jul 18th 2008 12:20AM
My pic got deleted :(
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 18th 2008 12:25AM
Why is Light Yagami fighting Misa Amane?
Huh? Simon Belmont? Maria Renard? I have no idea what you're talking about.
BananaBoat @ Jul 18th 2008 12:49AM
Probably because she ruined his life multiple times over. Lol
Backslash @ Jul 18th 2008 3:57AM
I think Takeshi Obata is flippin' awesome, too.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jul 18th 2008 8:47AM
Takeshi Obama?!! ZING
Jacksons @ Jul 18th 2008 12:36AM
Love the caption on the pic!
Batmanime @ Jul 18th 2008 1:13AM
The only way you could really make fun of this game is by calling it CastlevaniaNote.
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 18th 2008 2:15AM
Or "Castlevania no Go" works, too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi_Obata
coldbrand @ Jul 18th 2008 1:15AM
Street Fighter IV isn't a 3d fighter, try again.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 1:30AM
Uh, yeah it is
coldbrand @ Jul 18th 2008 1:56AM
No, it's not. You can only move back or foward. The graphics are rendered in 3d, but the game is a 2d fighter.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 2:19AM
Ever think that may be splitting hairs a bit?
zuburi @ Jul 18th 2008 3:01AM
Says the guy who's having an aneurysm over people calling this pile a "3D Fighter."
BPM [MSN: BPMdotEXE @ hotmail.com] @ Jul 18th 2008 3:08AM
... Says the man who whines about Judgement being called a fighting game...
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 18th 2008 3:11AM
says the man who won't let random hobos read his livejournal
dark_inchworm @ Jul 18th 2008 3:21AM
Shaq-Fu, you're a sorry excuse for a troll if I've ever seen one. Since your registration such a short while ago - and especially during this week alone - you have consistently displayed a lack of appreciation for logic, intelligence, or reason. It seems as though you chose your screenname to reflect the quality of your posts, but really, Shaq-Fu is probably too prestigious for you.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jul 18th 2008 8:48AM
YOU CALLIN MAH BRAWL A 2D FIGHTAH??!!!
SILENCE! I KILL YOU!
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jul 18th 2008 10:41AM
God damn this Shaq Fu guy is stupid.
"My opinion is king! Let's disregard thousands of developer comments over the years except for the one that backs MY opinion!"
