Fill the void with The Conduit developer interview
Let's face it -- most of the gamers who read this (or any) gaming blog aren't the audience Nintendo was targeting during their E3 2008 press conference. Many long-time members of the Wii camp felt betrayed by Ninty's "major" announcements -- that's why we thought we'd try to buck-up your spirits with a GameTrailers developer interview for a title that's been gathering quite a bit of attention from fans of the pint-sized home console: High Voltage Games' The Conduit.
Voltage's Chief Creative Officer, Eric Nofsinger, doesn't exactly dish any new dirt about the title in the above video, though the gameplay shown looks solid, and fairly attractive by the standards of its designated console. Whether or not it's worthy of the hype surrounding it, we'll have to wait until the first quarter of next year to find out. In the mean time, you'll just have to feign excitement over the Wii's thoroughly unexciting Noise Creation Engine.

Probably the only reason hardcore gamers have a Wii. Still this isn't enough to make me wanna keep my Wii.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 19th 2008 5:57PM
Just because Nintendo didn't announce enough games this E3, it doesn't mean that game development stoped, both third part and first party.
There are still a lot of games coming this year for the Wii, that can be considered hardcore or not shovelware.
We have The Conduit, Fatal Frame 4, Wario Land, Tales of Symphonia, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (this is the title I'm waiting more, actually), Oboro Muramasa, Samba de Amigo, Mushroom Man, Little King Story (Project O), Spore Wii, Shiren the Wanderer, deBlob, Deadly Creatures, Sky Crawlers (Im very hyped about this game), MadWorld, Tenchu 4, Megaman 9, Spyborgs, Dead Rising...
What about Sam and Max, or Strongbad game, or a lot of WiiWare games: Eternitys Child, World of Goo...
Heck, thats only third party: first party games there are a lot too. And the diference is that Nintendo has a lot of games out already. The diference is that Sony this year announced games that were announced years ago.
Or tell me: have you heard about Soul Eater, by Square Enix? Heck... just because you havent heard all this games it doesnt mean that there are no games coming. And the majority of this games are coming this year.
Or tell: Is just Resistance 2 and LBP the only games coming this year for the PS3? Of course not. But Joystiq doesnt cover all the others games, just like they dont cover all the Wii games coming.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 19th 2008 6:00PM
The Wii will also have Rockband 2 and Guitar Hero IV, both with DLC and online play.
Or how about the new exclusive Sonic game for the Wii?

Omg Fernando, Do you have that Nintendo Power magazine or is it a cover preview?!
I hope nobody is stealing my mail!!!
lol
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 19th 2008 6:14PM
Sonic Sword?!
So they finally acepted that they want to destroy the franchise with a big BANG!
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 19th 2008 6:17PM
Aparently, there is also a confirmation for Star Fox Wii... let me investigate more.
Gun Barrier (Gamer Tag) @ Jul 19th 2008 6:26PM
Well, i didn't get that Nintendo Power yet, but Sonic swords looks like a game that would utilize the motion plus for 1:1 control with that huge sword.
I hope we get Star Fox for this Year.
Dwag @ Jul 19th 2008 6:40PM
Sure the Wii may have a lot of games but this is the only one that seems interesting and that Sonic title you announce. These are the only titles that keep me interested in the Wii.
The Conduit
Sonic Unleashed
another Sonic game

Star Fox Wii=I will burst from happiness.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 20th 2008 8:33AM
A generic shooter is generic no matter what system it's on. The fact that you get to wave your arms around like a fool instead of standard controls does not make a generic shooter innovative.
I don't get you nintendo fanboys. You want the wii treated like a next gen system and treated equally as the other 2, but when stuff like this comes out all I see is "Wow this looks good....for a wii game" knowing full well it would be generic garbage on the 360 and ps3. You can't have the wii be treated equally only when it suits your fanboyish interests, you gotta take the bad too.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 20th 2008 8:44AM
Keep the generic FPS off the Wii, please. For all the faults the Wii has, I believe it's underpowered nature, which has been a handicap, has also been a great boon. It has forced the dull FPS into the light and shown how shallow the genre truly is. Without the fancy graphics (I would say ugly, but what do I know) developers have become accustomed to on the 360, publishers have become extremely wary of releasing titles such as this onto the Wii. The Wii is now famished of these generic FPS and that can only be a good thing.
Sometimes people are too uneducated to know what's best for them. I know, the way I'm talking now is horrible, but people are silly (stupid, even). They're shallow and base. The Wii has a problem with non-games, yes, but at least some of these non-games try to stand out. The Conduit is too plain a FPS to even craft its own identity: the HUD is clearly Halo, it looks like Metroid. I'm sure there's a whole bunch of other stuff I haven't spotted. If this was on the 360 it wouldn't even be mentioned on 360fanboy, so why all the fanfare, Nintendo fans? This is King Generic and we're praising it like the new dawn. There's something seriously wrong with that.
Also, the "hardcore"/"casual" fallacy must stop.On Wiifanboy, Mr Khan, and others, were saying there needs to be concrete definition of these words so the confusion would cease. What is hardcore and what is casual, they asked. Well, I have no idea but all those chanting that this will lead to a hardcore revolution on the Wii are sadly mistaken. This is the most casual experience in gaming for it is a FPS: a genre that appeals to the most base elements in us all. It's a shame that only I, and a few others, can see this.
jcd @ Jul 19th 2008 5:52PM
uh the game, ah conduit, ah weapones ah, so yeah ah alien ah, controls, ah ah uh

uh!
WorMzy @ Jul 20th 2008 3:44AM
lmao. You, uh, beat me, ah, uh, to it too. Uh.
I'm willing to overlook his confidence issue though, because that game is looking awesome.
VisionRx @ Jul 19th 2008 5:58PM
Generic FPS #2356 with sub-par graphics is hardly a reason to purchase or maintain possession of a console. This game has even less going for it than Red Steel.
Dwag @ Jul 19th 2008 6:36PM
Now you why I dislike Resistance.
Benny @ Jul 19th 2008 5:59PM
Oh no, not another 'future' where they don't have torches. Or sticky tape.
:(
Gun Barrier (Gamer Tag) @ Jul 19th 2008 6:01PM
I hope this just doesn't become a good fps on the Wii. I hope that it becomes the next Halo. Thought that might be wishing for too much. Either way, this will be an awesome game!
darth_nazgul @ Jul 19th 2008 10:05PM
I sure hope this doesn't become the next Halo! It's worse enough that the series is overhyped, but just imagining how xbox fanboys are going to react if this game is as big as Halo ("TEH CONDUET IS ******* ****!!!!!! THAT ******* COPY USES THE SAME **** HEALTH SYSTEM AS HALO!!!!!!!! GO **** URSELF NINTENDO! UR GAMES R ****!!!!!) Yeah. That's what I imagine happening if The Conduit becomes the next Halo. Of coarse, the Wii can have a killer app if it wants.
Charles @ Jul 19th 2008 6:07PM
GamingNexus also has an interview (and some new screenshots) at http://www.gamingnexus.com/FullNews/E3-2008-The-Conduit-Interview-(with-exclusive-screenshots)/Item9370.aspx
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 19th 2008 6:18PM

mmm...
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 19th 2008 6:24PM
The game has been in development for only 8 months... they are a small and independent company. You have to give the guys some credit.
I mean, they went from this (April 17):
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14248157/the-conduit/images/the-conduit-20080417032657973.html
To this, in just about 3 months.
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14248157/the-conduit/images/the-conduit-20080709061826928.html
Final product will be very good.
JerJerBinks @ Jul 19th 2008 7:11PM
Fernando, I cannot believe that you are defending this game. After all the bullshit you give the 360 and PS3 for producing generic shooters, and you just jump on the bandwagon for a generic Wii shooter. You sir are a hypocrite unlike any other on this site.
I have seen Nintendo Fanboys praising the character models and textures on weapons for weeks. Are you guys blind? All I see when I look at this is the horrible textures on walls, abysmal environment models (omfg the cars look worse than GTA3 on PS2), and the worst case of the jaggies since 2002.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 20th 2008 12:14AM
I'm actually kinda excited for this game. It looks cool in vids. But yeah it makes Halo 3's graphics look jaw-dropping good.
Teh jaggiez are a hurtin mah i's
Cyro @ Jul 20th 2008 2:20AM
Ah come on fenix. This is actually the first Wii title I am interested in. Give the game some credit. It looks interesting at the very least...
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 20th 2008 8:43AM
You obviously don't get fernando by now jerjer. Everything sucks and is generic until it's on the wii then it's somehow innovative! How, you ask? That's not important, all you need to know is that it's innovative because it's on the wii!
This looks as generic if not more generic than haze, and yet here's fernando defending this game.
Fernando:
I don't know what to do with you anymore, you're a lost cause. It's sad watching you defend everything on the wii that doesn't appear to be shovelware-level trash. Like that annoying devil woman from nintendo's conference said, just keep playing Brawl and Mario Kart until next year.
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 19th 2008 6:19PM
Yeah, the 20th Aniversary thing get me thinking about it
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 19th 2008 6:21PM

damn you comment system, you finally got me ):
Jacksons @ Jul 19th 2008 6:25PM
Looks pretty solid.
FSK405K @ Jul 19th 2008 6:26PM
Does it have Metroid Prime controls or Call of Duty 3 controls?
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 19th 2008 6:29PM
Metroid Prime controls, with customization options like Medal of Honor Wii (bigger or smaller bounding box, turn speed, etc...)
Gun Barrier (Gamer Tag) @ Jul 19th 2008 6:29PM
It uses the IR pointer for aim, and everything else is customizable.
Obie @ Jul 19th 2008 6:54PM
Those guys did the impossible. Making a Wii game look
like a 360 game.
Kinda makes me wish the Wii did 720p :(
I hear the game will even have 16 player online deathmatch with voice chat. I wish it great sales...I really do.
JerJerBinks @ Jul 19th 2008 7:38PM
Yeah, you are right. If you squint really hard and sit about 20 feet away from your TV, it will look just like a PS360 game.
Dwag @ Jul 19th 2008 7:41PM
It will have great sales i mean after this the Wii will no longer get called so Console only for kids and shit. It'll finally get recognized as a true next gen console as it shoulld've been.
Benny @ Jul 19th 2008 8:15PM
I hate to piss on your parade, but I highly doubt this game will change anything, no matter how deserving it is.
It'll become a lost gem, just like No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki, and a needle in a haystack of minigame compendiums.
It's a shame what 'mass market appeal' can do to a console.
Obie @ Jul 19th 2008 8:44PM
Benny that's why I said "I wish" great sales for it. ;)
Benny @ Jul 19th 2008 9:08PM
Oh, sorry Obie; my comment was more in response to what Dwag posted (though he may have been being sarcastic himself).
I wish it great sales too. Let's just hope it gets the marketing push it deserves. Has it been picked up by a publisher yet?
Dwag @ Jul 19th 2008 10:28PM
@Benny
Kinda wasn't sarcastic but still if the Conduit turns out to be the Wii's Halo and gain such a huge fanbase and semi lives up to hype then of course everyones gonna want a Wii instead of a 360 and PS3. Seriouly what do they really have over the Wii anyways? If it gets good(8.0 or above) rating then likely it will get good sales I mean americans can't get enough FPSs(even though I wished they'd stop shitting one every year like its a sports game)so then its highly likely they'll get a Wii.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 20th 2008 12:28AM
The game looks good and it might have looked like a first generation PS360 game when both of those respective consoles debuted. But now? Are you crazy?!! We gots MGS4, Gears, Gears2, R6V1 and 2, Halo3, KZ2, COD4, GRAW2, Bioshock, Army of Two, It doesnt even look better than H4.5ZE but way more interesting none-the-less. I can go all day, its just running the fine line between this gen and last.
The one thing about this game that I hope gets changed when they get a publisher (if possible of course) is the name of the game. The Conduit? Really? Just because of the name alone its losing 2 to 300,000 units in sales. Bet on it!
FSK405K @ Jul 20th 2008 5:14PM
If this game is twice as much fun as Halo, and if it magically looked twice as good, it would still never be 1/4 as popular..........why?
friend codes. If I can't meet and chat with and become friends with random cool people I play with, what's the fuckin' point?
AzaMcWazza @ Jul 19th 2008 7:49PM
The game will no doubt look good. It's all about gameplay now. Weapons, how they're used, story line, character abilities etc. Then multiplayer of course. Need some good solid game types.
I read also that they are leaving in LAN play which is nice too.
Give these guys some credit. Sure it's going to be generic FPS #5332, but on the Wii it will be generic FPS #2 (Assuming MoH was #1).
Cyro @ Jul 20th 2008 2:29AM
Stop saying generic FPS. I mean, what the heck do people want in FPS ? Not all FPS can be mind blowing with originality! They all have to feel the same in one way or the other. For me what really makes and break an FPS is a solid story and how well the game sucks you in while playing.
On a side note: Its not all about gameplay, the graphics are a MAYOR factor in games now days. If thats not the case, why all this HD crap developers and manufacturers are throwing at us. Most developers are trying to push the limit in the graphics department, because they know that alone will sell.
AzaMcWazza @ Jul 20th 2008 3:52AM
I say generic because almost all FPS are derivative and generic as to not be worth the development time and consumer's money. As gamers we shouldn't waste our money and time on FPS's that don't try and do something new.
And this goes for all genre's. That's why I buy few games because I'm not spending my hard earn cash on some cash in title that has no originality.
It might not be all about gameplay but without gameplay the game is almost worthless. The reason people are investing in HD gaming is that console and TV makers told us we needed HD. Just a couple of years ago we didn't give a shit and were happy with the great graphics on the previous systems.
Shignami @ Jul 19th 2008 7:54PM
That guy sounds like hes really trying to hit those buzzwords.
DBuck_Eye @ Jul 19th 2008 7:57PM
I really hope they put in splitscreen. From what I've heard, it's not happenning, and if that is true, it will be a serious kick to the balls of my hard-on for this game...
DBuck_Eye @ Jul 19th 2008 7:57PM

This is looks to be the Wii's Killzone 2. A generic-looking FPS, showcasing the technical prowess of the console its on.
