Slightly more ambitious should have been my wording. Their games show progress, in the common definition within the industry. D3 has 3D backgrounds, bigger set pieces, new online features, who knows what else. WoW is getting some cool things with WotLK, achievements, hero-class, etc. Nintendo is going backwards. Wii Music could be played on a DVD player with a remote, continually pressing play whenever you want the next note to sound. And this game is not good for toddlers, it won't get them interested in music. It will just confuse their learning of cause-and-effect, assuming that half-assing something will lead to perfect results. Then we'd really have Wii-tards.

Lol, Diablo. Elldee told me to STFU and play that game and so I did: it's just an older version of Marvel Alliance. That's what the big hype was for. I know, I know, this isn't the place to say this, but Shaq Fu just brought the thought to mind.

I could start to see what you were trying to say, but at the same time, Blizzard has its bread and butter. Sure, their bread and butter might be more hardcore than Nintendos, but they continue to make new games using the same IPs. Not that its a bad thing, can't wait for Diablo or a new Starcraft. But risky its not

This isn't geared towards any gamer. It's a little kids toy.

Yes, because kids are not gamers.

Even though I dislike this game, I cannot allow ignorance like that slide.

@Lord Bowser
I think he meant to say this ISN'T a game, it's a kids toy. This is why parents get mad at games like Grand Theft Auto or Devil May Cry or Call of Duty or Mass Effect. They look at Wii Bullshit Kids Game Number 2000 and think that that is the antithesis of gaming. It's a problem with both Nintendo and the parents themselves. But I digress, I'm not going to go into a long speech about this otherwise your eyes will start to wander.

The masses is where the money's at.
The hell with gamers.

Support xbox360 and ps3 by buying 3 copies of every game!
But I doubt that'll have any effect on nintendo's money printers.

To all the people saying this is garbage, only idiots would play it, thinks Nintendo is ruining the industry for making this, ect: get over yourself.

I completely agree this is worthless to me and looks about as much fun as banging two pots together but that doesn't mean other people won't enjoy it.

What makes you so important that people should only make games for you to enjoy? So what if there are other games that other people that aren't heavy gamers can enjoy? If you don't like the game, just don't buy it. Stop attacking the people that will probably like this game.

Again, I'm angry because it's a half assed game with no depth. Even their target audience can see that. Show this game to a little kid and ask them to sit down with it for more than an hour. I'm willing to bet they'll get bored with it fast. And who a single piece of media cannot be aimed at more than one audience? I suppose people like you and Nintendo.

This game is a, say it with me: Piece of shit.
But it's a good game for ki...no...say it with me: piece of shit.

Again, I think this is shit for your average gamer but when your parents or younger kids see this they see fun.

How do I know this? I've showed the videos to some non gamers and I've seen kid toys that are more or less the same exact thing and both groups loved it and thought the idea of it was the most brilliant idea *ever*.

Like Miyamoto said earlier-- they don't cater to the gamer at E3 anymore, it's all about bringing in the non gamers. I think it's crap but it's what they're doing. The same people that gobble up Carnival Games and Wii Fit are going to be the same people that gobble this game up.

You can think it's shit all you want but they're going to love the crap out of it and none of your bad attitude is going to change that. Just accept that people have different tastes and rather than having a bad attitude about a game you're never going to play and making bad attitude comments on a blog all day go play a game you actually enjoy.

@twesterm: I have a lot more confidence in my 6 and 8 year old cousins than to believe they would actually find this crap entertaining. Have you even been around kids lately? It doesn't take a college degree or an age in the double-digits to figure out something like this is boring.

Well I have nieces and nephews that range from 1 to 9 and while the ones younger than 4 or so aren't going to get much play from this, the 9 year old loves this kind of stuff.

Again, don't assume your opinion is the only one. Some people like simply things like waving a remote around.

I'm not sure what we were all expecting with this game. How the heck do you think you can play an instrument with the Wii controller?

The only possible instruments would be the drums (they got that right), theremin (no one even knows what that is), and the triangle.

Markmy words, next E3 (if there is one)

Reggie: I know some of you were dissapointed with us last year however we want to introduce you to something new (shows pie chart of casual gamers playing Wii compaired to hardcore) according to this our new audience has gained 90% of our sales. Today we anounce our new business strategy: the casual gamer.

Listen guys. Nintendo used to make BoardéCard games. They switched their business model to Video games in the 80s. Over 20 years ago. I think now, is the time for them to do it again. They know where the dough is and it isn`t with the core gamer. I just want them to officially admit it. That`s all. I`m suprised Alexander didnt barf during all this.

I'm starting to think they're just making games to trend with Japanese sentiments. Last i heard, Zelda didn't sell nearly as well in Japan as it did in the US. And Japanese gamers typically enjoy easier games.
So basically I think we're paying the price for exhausted Japanese gamers. I have a Wii by way of a roommate and the only game I've bought was Obscure 2.
I realize this system isn't for me and a lot of you disenfranchised Nintendo fans should take this E3 and realize a 360 or PS3 should be in your future.

That's an interesting point of view that I hadn't thought of before. The Japanese approach to games is generally hands off story and show only. It does seem that Nintendo is attempting to change the way Americans think about games to a more Japanese centric view.

Please. Most of us (i would hope) aren't stupid enough to realize that this E3 represented the whole (or even a solid part) of what Nintendo's up to on the Wii

The people who are... Well, that's their business

...and yet a lot of games when they were exported from Japan to the U.S. were made easier (at least in the past). Many examples of this, but probably one of the most classic examples is SMB2 in the U.S. versus SMB2 in Japan (it was deemed too hard for U.S. audiences).

I can understand the great source of resentment, since this game (which, it is a game) really has nothing to do with achievement in any way, shape, or form

But to look at it as just a game where you waggle to make noise isn't particularly true. The "point" of the game is to put on an interesting performance, and make it into a music video of sorts. Its not about playing the music, it's about the expression, or the waggle itself

Not that i'm particularly defending it (I love the idea behind it, but they could've done a helluva lot more to give this game a broader appeal), but i think the "point" of this game is being misunderstood

Wii Music just looks fun.....you know, FUN.....that word that people don't seem to care if its relavant to a new game anymore. They just care if it doesn't look like it involves blood or anthing "hardcore" then it must be for little kids and is a big pile of crap.

Not worried at all about Wii Music taking marketshare from RB/GH. It may in fact help those two. After Timmy gets tired of playing Mario covers, he's going to want to move up and play The Pixies, etc. If there are any real songs in Wii Music, I'll be quite surprised.

Wii Music is the worlds best video game ever made. You people are going to look stupid once you see the huge success that will come with this game.

What can be better then to simulate the joy of creating and playing music?

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are dumb for dumb people. Are you guys dumb? What's the point of wasting your time trying to match rythms on the screen?

Wii Music gives you full freedom in playing the music. It does not, as far as Nintendo has announced yet, let you control which notes are being played, it does not let you compose the music, but it does let you decide when to play each note. Ask any real musician, they'll tell you even if you only have the opportunity to choose when to play each note, that is still a huge way to influence the overall feeling of the music.

And Nintendo may be hiding some music composition mode in Wii Music, this would simply be a mode like with the solo drumkit mode, where there would be some ways for users to compose songs. It could be a DS Music game where you could compose your own songs on the DS, then synchronize your DS with your Wii and then perform your song on the Wii, record the performance as a music video and share it on Youtube.

I have played Wii Music, I played Wii Orchestra at E3 2006, it was the most awesome Wii demo back then. I can only imagine what Nintendo has improved and added in Wii Music since then. You can see me play Wii Orchestra here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7919330316399901955

Wii Music has the potential to influence society in a more profound way then any other game has ever done in history. What may come out of this is millions of new musicians, millions of new music performers, millions of music performances and with a music composition mode, there could come millions of new songs out of this. Imagine if the next big Bethoven and the next Mozart got their talents expressed and recorded through this game. of course, you so-called core gamers are so dumbed down by the one dumb 1st person shooter game after the other, the one dumb World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy game after the other, the one dumb Tomb Raider or dumb grand Theft Auto after the other, you probably wouldn't even know what Bethoven, Mozart or Thelonious Monk music even sounds like.

Agreed. The point isn't just waggle and listen to the sounds go by, it's using your imagination to create music using those sounds. Making a good song is the true reward.

Very impressive numbers for Nintendo, hopefully they can keep up the buzz with some new exciting game releases.

The lifespan of the Wii can only be prolonged with decent upcoming games, and not yet another party game or something like it... I'm not sure Wii Music and Wii Sports 2 are going to do much attracting new gamers...

That said there are some fab Nintendo Wii games out there though!

I am going to take a wild stab and guess that all the hate going towards this game are coming from tone-deaf musical boors who have no taste beyond the crap they put on GH/RB. They see something involving creativity, and OH NOES, call the WAAAHmbulance, let there be whining.

That said, I'm pretty disappointed with it as of this moment. Arranging preset tracks may be fun, but somewhere along the way there's gotta be creativity - someone's gonna want to write real songs (or at least make covers of other songs not in the library) with this. Just look at the sheer amount of Mario Paint arrangements on YouTube! Until I see some big customizability, basically this is just a wasted opportunity.

I do recall that the orchestra conducting widget in 2006 had a scoring system. Maybe they'll re-implement it in response to all the kvetching.

Joystiq ate up my comment... So I'm just going to sum it up.

I think all the hate going towards this game is mostly coming from tone-deaf musical boors who are creativity-phobic. That said, I can't say I'm actually pleased with this, as arranging pre-made tracks can only be so much fun until someone wants to make something original. Mario Paint spawns a gazillion music vids on YouTube - will it do the same here? Is Ninty going to capture the potential of this program, or is it going to waste another good opportunity? BTW, the E3 orchestra demo had a scoring system. Maybe they'll bring it back in response to all the whining.
