Aliens: Colonial Marines E3 absence explained
Sega's E3 presence was among the weakest at last week's event, trumped only by the pitiful showing at Camp Belmont, a notion not helped by the absence of Gearbox-developed Aliens: Colonial Marines from either the show floor or Sega's own booth. Videogamer.com cornered Gearbox president Randy Pitchford about the missing shooter, a no-show he blamed squarely on Sega's marketing strategy, adding that "the game is in great shape. People are going to freak out when they see it."
By people, he obviously didn't mean Sega's own marketing VP Sean Ratcliffe, who told us that while the publisher was considering showing the game at E3, Sega didn't feel that it was quite ready for prime time. "I think it needs a little more time before we want to put it in front of the press," the exec told us. He added that more news regarding the status of Aliens: Colonial Marines will be announced sometime after E3, though we continue to hope that Sega will release game as planned in late 2008 and not nuke the site from orbit.
[Thanks Cellien]

"All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!"

I do find it funny that Sega is holding this game back, yet has no problem parading "Werewolf Sonic" whenever they can.
riggs @ Jul 20th 2008 10:09PM
sonic threatened eating their children...
which is weird because so did the alien queen hmmm.
DangerMouse @ Jul 21st 2008 12:59AM
if there was the perfect time to show it off, it was this E3. Had it been amazing, it would've stole the show. But honestly, another blue's clues game could have stolen this show as well.

One of my most antecipated 2008 co-op games. I was wondering why Aliens wans´t shown at E3. NOw I know.
I hope it released when it´s done (and I hope this means 2008).
Aliens + coop up to 4 = fun

Agreed. It seems like the team will be specialized.
So one person has the motion detector, one has the smart gun, and the other has a flame thrower.
If done right, this game could be amazing.

This doesn't explain the absence of Daytona USA 3...
Whoppy @ Jul 20th 2008 1:24PM
The developers had put a right hand corner in by mistake :P
tifosiotaku @ Jul 21st 2008 12:43AM
Not funny.

I lol'ed.

CSK was the real company behind Sega. Once they sold their part, Sega has not been the same. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSK
I wish Sega would put some of those Dreamcast Classics on Xbox Live Arcade. Soul Calibur looks great on the 360. I just want to get Crazy Taxi on it.
FSK405K @ Jul 20th 2008 5:03PM
Cool, as long as they retain the ability to listen to the game sounds and simultaneously mute the music.
Urza @ Jul 20th 2008 2:24PM
I was just wondering about any e3 news about this game. :)

What the... with this mentality Sega shouldn't show us any of their (current) games.
Cellien @ Jul 20th 2008 2:38PM
Hmm, I sent in this tip. Thanks for the credit. :\

Ah, there it is. :)

They're probably just having a hell of a time trying to figure out a decent place/time to show it off where it won't overshadowed by the 9000 other hyped-up FPS's coming out this year.
superklye @ Jul 20th 2008 5:18PM
Dude. It's Aliens. It overshadows everything else by default.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 20th 2008 5:22PM
In a righteous world, perhaps. But we have people geeking out about mashing a button pretending to be "chainsaw dueling" and 60-person multiplayer stealing the show, so to speak.
This game really does look great.
Obie @ Jul 20th 2008 6:24PM
The Halo franchise owes most of it's look/feel/plot/characters from Aliens...something it's rabid fanbase always conveniently forgets.
FSK405K @ Jul 20th 2008 4:55PM
Any other Aliens Online veterans out there? . . .. just me? Oh, the incredible awesomeness of late '90s asymmetric MMO FPSs.
TomCo @ Jul 20th 2008 6:52PM
Nope, but Im a long time player of AvP mud.

Aliens was so awesome. Tied for favorite movie of all time with Disney's Jungle Book.
I love it so much, though much of that love is due to Aliens being perhaps one of the only sci-fi story where machine gun fire actually does damage to the monster.
(Seriously. It's like a rule in all sci-fi horror)
carg0 @ Jul 20th 2008 10:55PM
i'm old enough to remember the days when the 'Aliens' franchise commanded nothing but respect...
