Today's Best Buy flyer has overridden the ESRB and given Final Fantasy IV, Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 and MYST all "Mature" ratings. We have no idea how this happened, as the box images from the publishers should have the proper ratings. It's not like Best Buy's flyer design team adds the ratings to each box (and if they do, we feel bad for them). In the online version of the ad, hovering over the games with the pointer does display the proper ratings.
We're amused, but just to be clear, Trauma Center is rated T for Teen, while Myst and FF IV are rated E for everyone.

Square-Enix seems to have the need to make the US DS remake boxarts dull, I guess.

Trying to appeal to the "mature casual" gamer. People who just buy anything with blood and violence.

is it not possible that these 'ratings' are more a guide to which age group will most appreciate these titles? They are all games more geared towards older players, not necessarily 21 year olds, but y'know :-P... not 6 year olds.

yes, a ratings badge is added to each title, especially if it is at all obscured by a price tag, another title, etc. the same is true for R-rated movies, and explicit cd titles.
this appears to be an error in the proofreading process.

I can't possibly see how you could turn a puzzle game like Myst into a Mature title. There wasn't even any real human interaction except through books...

I swear someone at the Best Buy headquarters who makes these ads has too much time and loves Photoshop a bit more than is healthy. Somehow I always see OS X screenshots on one of their Windows laptops. In last week's ad they had a really bad Photoshop of the IE5 for Mac window with a picture of some random people in the middle. It didn't even have the OS X menubar thing.
Now, I know they often Photoshop these things because the pictures aren't clear enough (hence why they shop in the screens instead of just displaying the image and taking the picture) but really? Someone has to have a strange sense of humor, because that has to be a deliberate mistake.

If you mean FF III on the SNES, that's really FF VI, which is two games AFTER the game that comes out this week, and which, cross your fingers, should come out on DS in the US in about 18 months. The game coming out this week was FF II on the SNES. . . . . .if you mean FF III on the DS, what do you mean you found no FF game fun after FF III? It only came out in 2006 and no numbered game has come out since! (FF XII came out slightly before FF III DS.)

Damn, I saw that ad and was so pumped: "sweet new M-rated Final Fantasy game. It must be the bomb" . . .. now I'll pass.

probably sells more when it says "this stuff is forbidden for kids, only adults can enjoy this amazing adventure and we want kids not to try to buy it themselves or tell their mothers to buy it for them since even if it has a chopped limb they know games are for kids. I remind you, this game will scare you to death with dark mysterious secrets that none of your friends know about and will look up to you when you tell them you played a game only adults can play without going insane. Beware boy... beware..."

well technically trauma center shows a little bit of booby when you operate on a woman. also shows blue naked, genital-less people.

GAH! Must save money for food and gas... >< Can't believe I bought Guitar Hero for the DS. Oh well, at least I avoided Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, but with Final Fantasy IV coming out, it's unbearable for my wallet!

While it's not a system seller, if you have a DS, it's one of the best games on there. Although if you already have one of its console counterparts, then 25 songs will seem little for you.
Another note is that since I have big hands, the fret buttons seems small and my hands cramp after half an hour: but eventually you can play for longer periods of time as you adjust yourself to finally find a more comfortable playing position.

Strumming is perfectly fine, but star power is a little dodgy: sometimes it'll go off automatically because the microphone interprets the sound of your screen tapping as voice input (I don't know if the music affects it since I wear earphones for that game: highly recommended!). But you can disable voice input in the settings.
