Get your first look at a LittleBigPlanet boss
When it was first announced that LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy would be going fisticuffs with all manner of textile-based baddies, we were perplexed as to how these throwdowns would be executed. After all, Sackboy doesn't exactly look like a fearsome opponent -- though we suppose the same could be said for overweight plumbers, oddly-hued rodents, and most other 2D platforming superstars.
However, this recent gameplay clip from Media Molecule shows off how everyone's favorite ambulatory sack will tussle with one of the game's bosses -- by using a moving platform to bounce his own exploding barrels back at him. It looks pretty fun, though not incredibly deep. Perhaps that's a good thing -- if bosses can be this simple, will we perhaps be able to create our own? We'll have to wait until October to find out.

bvhj @ Jul 20th 2008 11:37AM
In the version of this video which has a voice talking you through it (probably Alex Evans, but I don't remember), he said that you can make this yourself so, yeah, making your own bosses will be a yes :v
Travis @ Jul 20th 2008 11:38AM
that game is creepy
Mr Khan @ Jul 20th 2008 11:39AM
Classic platforming is restored (right down to Donkey Kong-esque barrel jumping), and i'm liking the jazziness
The jumping still seems a bit... sluggish, though the pacing on the rest of it seems right. The checkpoint being where it was encourages experimentation, which is good for when you first fight the boss, but too easy after you understand his techniques. Hopefully there'll be something like Mario Galaxy's "daredevil" challenges, with the checkpoints removed
Moffka @ Jul 20th 2008 12:38PM
Remember... you can create everything and modify everything. So if the premade level you're playing has too many check points... you can just take them out. Same goes for making your own level, just don't put any check points in.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jul 20th 2008 12:57PM
I don't see any problem with the jumping. It's a bit "floaty", but that's hardly unusual. Many games in many genres has floaty jumping.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jul 20th 2008 1:02PM
*have
Knoxximus @ Jul 20th 2008 2:16PM
The jumping looks a little...ummmm...Subspace Emmisary-ish. :/
Pureshooter @ Jul 20th 2008 11:42AM
Please tell me that's the actual level music...
Kayode @ Jul 20th 2008 12:30PM
Please tell me it is.
colin @ Jul 20th 2008 4:13PM
that's the actual level music.
blastodon @ Jul 20th 2008 11:44AM
Let's hope they hire somebody who knows the difference between "your" and "you're" to proofread this thing before release!
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 20th 2008 11:45AM
Thats easily the most groovy boss I have ever seen, big mutant bosses with super strength are overated, this boss throws that out the window with sheer style and charisma ;)
Jakka @ Jul 20th 2008 11:59AM
Kinda lame. It would be more fun if they used a Boss-Level in a Shadow of the Colossus style.
Benny @ Jul 20th 2008 12:31PM
That would actually be amazing.
J @ Jul 20th 2008 1:39PM
@jakka, do you mean like the boss IS the stage, and you climb him up and attack his weak points while he tries to swat you off?
Good idea. Maybe you should get the game when it releases and design a level like that?
Autopsy15 @ Jul 20th 2008 4:40PM
Well if that's what you really wanted, you could just make it yourself.
JEDIaNIN @ Jul 20th 2008 12:03PM
Sell me a Kratos and Killzone sackboy now pls MM
Noshino @ Jul 20th 2008 12:12PM
Haha, Kratos would be cool, but I want a Ratchet and a Klonoa sackboy...
That reminds me, Namco, where is my Klonoa 3?!?!
JEDIaNIN @ Jul 20th 2008 12:04PM
yay
Arttemis @ Jul 20th 2008 12:22PM
I'm in love.
mr nimblewick @ Jul 20th 2008 12:28PM
Looks cute. I agree about the jumping being a bit sluggish. Controls for 2.5D platformers can be tricky like that. I haven't played one yet that had as good of controls as regular 2D games. Even New Super Mario Brothers didn't have it exactly right.
Bearxor @ Jul 20th 2008 12:51PM
It looks... Kinda stupid actually.
Wilhelm @ Jul 20th 2008 7:42PM
People downvoted you, but I agree.
Kizzle @ Jul 20th 2008 8:21PM
Yeah. I was actually thinking this game could be very good...then I saw this video. Generic platformer smothered in style and hype ahoy!
Blah @ Jul 21st 2008 12:46AM
I agree, I have been following the news of this game because it seemed original and interesting but now it seems that its just a side scroller with puzzles that seem more aggravating than challenging
Eh @ Jul 21st 2008 1:04AM
Thats like saying Battlefield 1942 sucked because the single player was boring. This games main focal point is the multiplayer level creation, not the single player part which is mainly an added bonus and probably mostly meant for inspiration when you create your own levels.
Rein @ Jul 20th 2008 1:02PM
I'm digging the music so much. I hope all the music is like that.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 20th 2008 1:09PM
I wasn't really excited for this, but after seeing that video I can't wait. Still not sure if it's a "System Seller" though.
David @ Jul 20th 2008 1:23PM
The music is cool but...
That boss is a total blackface tarbaby! Don't they know people are sensitive about this sort of thing?
TwEE @ Jul 20th 2008 1:47PM
Ha, I noticed that..
daddycool @ Jul 20th 2008 1:37PM
That video just finally got me interested in this game. Here it just looks like a regular platformer with some amazing graphics. I like that. I'mm glad you can just play boards and bosses and not have to deal with the multiplayer and user generated stuff.
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Jul 20th 2008 1:45PM
This game could be a dark horse candidate for GOTY.
mr mobius @ Jul 20th 2008 7:49PM
But what about the numerous games Nintendo revealed at their E3 conference? Can't forget them.
*crawls back into corner and takes his place in the foetal position whimpering with disappointment*
Ian @ Jul 20th 2008 1:49PM
The game looks fun... but it doesn't look like a triple A title that the SDF is claiming. Seems like something that would hold my interest for 2 weeks or so max. PSN or Live Arcade title? Yes. System selling retail title? Nope.
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Jul 20th 2008 2:20PM
You need to work on your attention span. The thing that will give this game long legs in the user generated content, ability to create, modify and edit your own levels and special levels from PS3 developers that are game centric. For example, Insomniac might do a Ratchet And CLank Level. You can create anything with this game. It is really for people who have some level of creativity. I can only imagine the type of levels we will see. Maybe some remakes of some of our older favorites for the 8 & 16 Bit era.
Spore & Little Big Planet are going to change the face of gaming forever.
HighFiveJesus @ Jul 20th 2008 2:24PM
the amount of depth that is looking to be present makes me think it could be as popular as something like the sims, but on a smaller scale.
TwEE @ Jul 20th 2008 1:51PM
This is very cute. Love the style and creating your own stages should be a blast, but the game play shown doesn't look look like it has much depth to it.
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Jul 20th 2008 2:22PM
It seems to be a 2.5D platformer. I am curious if we can turn the levels into a pseudo shooter or a powerstone type of game.
Konchu @ Jul 20th 2008 3:07PM
Great to see so new element like the barrels and the boss fight has me excited.
deaftly @ Jul 20th 2008 3:47PM
That music is going to get old and annoying FAST
Jettic @ Jul 20th 2008 6:37PM
I don't see why.. Unless your the kind of person that has trouble getting through a simple level like this.
Abscissa @ Jul 20th 2008 4:00PM
Love that music, sounds like a 70's spy movie.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 20th 2008 10:18PM

Anyone else reminded of the Korn doll when they see Sackboy?
Beddoes @ Jul 20th 2008 5:06PM
Excellent music, its "Taco Brazil" by The New Dance Orchestra for anyone whos interested.
Chris Are @ Jul 20th 2008 5:48PM
Can't believe no one's said this yet: music totally reminds me of Cowboy Bebop.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 20th 2008 7:37PM
Boring really. I mean how long did that even last? Like a minute at most?
And John you really think this is going to change gaming? LMAO. Yeah right. Spore I'll give you but not this...
This is so meh...other than the cuteness of the game I see no reason why it's such a big deal.
