Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop coming to Wii this winter

1UP has some details on the pseudo-port from Famitsu, largely centered on the efforts to make the game more casually appealing. For starters, there's no more timer, you just complete missions and move on. There have also been tweaks to the camera and controls based on Resident Evil 4. And yes, you can expect some motion controls -- in exactly the ways you'd expect -- which you can read about here.

i wish they made dead rising 2 for 360! not ports :(
Tom18230 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:17PM
Please tell me that's not the real name... ?
äsdf @ Jul 21st 2008 2:37PM
Dude... the game is called Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice.
Good fucking job with reading the article you linked to Sir Justin McElroy. And a good job to the rest of you who only read article headlines.
äsdf @ Jul 21st 2008 2:42PM
lol wtf... read the Press Release and it does have it labeled Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Maybe it has a different title in Japan and thus 1UP got a different title through translation of Famitsu. Dunno, but forgive the previous post.
Tom18230 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:43PM
Good job trying too hard to prove people wrong. If YOU actually read the article you would find it says "The new port, called Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice in Japan" IN JAPAN. It is called Zombie Sacrifice IN JAPAN. Not in Europe, not in America... IN JAPAN.
Thank you and goodnight.
Motoi @ Jul 21st 2008 2:51PM
Perhaps, asdf, this is the NEW title of the game, like this entry clearly states? Good job to you for reading this entry clearly. Oh the irony.
OMGOMG @ Jul 21st 2008 3:21PM
Am I the only one who thought of the framerate when a read the title?
äsdf @ Jul 21st 2008 5:43PM
Yup that's what I get for posting on a shitty site that doesn't allow you to edit or delete your own posts.
Cyro @ Jul 21st 2008 2:18PM
The Mall is empty wtf? Like 8 zombies? hahahhahaha
It also looks like they all look the same....
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 2:27PM
It's because the 360 version is set in the mall during crazy Christmas shoppers time and the Wii version is set right after Christmas when everybody is broke as hell. True story, yeah.
:D
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 2:20PM
Chop only 8-10 zombies at a time till you drop. lmao! This is dumb, the 360 version has a crapload of zombies on screen at once and that is what makes the game so crazy.
Danny F. @ Jul 21st 2008 2:28PM
You would think at least with the drop in # count they wouldn't downgrade the visual so much, but the screenshots make the game look really....choppy looking (no pun intended).
Already hating it before its even out... thats bad..
Duke @ Jul 21st 2008 3:34PM
Hey, you may be cutting on this one but I read this in that article:
"The story structure is a bit different from the 360 version, however: Instead of having your janitor friend Otis continually tell you about things to investigate via your transceiver, the game will proceed in a more traditional, less time-sensitive fashion. "
That is full of win to me. The time element was a pisser - as way Otis driving me nuts all the time.
Co @ Jul 21st 2008 6:58PM
"Chop only 8-10 zombies at a time till you drop. lmao! This is dumb, the 360 version has a crapload of zombies on screen at once and that is what makes the game such a piece of shit."
There we go!
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:21PM
Another bad port for the wii.
Seriously why are they even bothering doing this. They've ruined most of what was fun about the real Dead Rising.
DBuck_Eye @ Jul 21st 2008 4:06PM
Have you seen the last two ports Capcom published for thw Wii? The one was as good as the original and the other was arguably better. I have faith in Capcom.
Josh @ Jul 21st 2008 9:19PM
Yeah, but they went from less powerful systems to a more powerful system. This time, it's the other way around.

The day before this game was announced I ordered the 360 version from Amazon. Ah, well.
Anyway, I've already sold the game to a knucklehead, so I'll probably wait and see how good the Wii version is before I re-buy.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 21st 2008 2:26PM
Without even playing it? I'm not sure that puts you in the position to call anyone else a knucklehead.
Nigeria: SSBB: 0731-6347-2110 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:30PM
Lol.
When I said Knucklehead I didn't mean someone who was boneheaded or lacked thought. It means something completely different here in London.
Booxatron @ Jul 21st 2008 2:55PM
What does it mean in London?
Nigeria: SSBB: 0731-6347-2110 @ Jul 21st 2008 3:37PM
It means something totally disgusting, it's not for the pretty people. I should have substituted the word for something more genial - or not brought it up at all.
Henry @ Jul 21st 2008 3:50PM
WTF are you talking about? Knucklehead means exactly the same thing here in London as it does everywhere else.
Nigeria: SSBB: 0731-6347-2110 @ Jul 21st 2008 4:07PM
I don't know.
Different areas of London – and I suppose most places – talk differently. It probably depends on your social background and all that stuff. Like, for example, if you have friends, or you know people, in different areas of the city and you start talking about 'kut' and 'mustaches' you'd get a myriad of responses depending on their background, and what they might happen to get upto.
The same goes for the word 'head', or as I said, 'knucklehead'. It was a flippant, throwaway word. Yadda-yadda-yadda.
Alex @ Jul 21st 2008 4:11PM
it means football head
J.Goodwin @ Jul 21st 2008 2:23PM
Click through to "Hi-res" in the screens gallery for a laugh.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 2:29PM
lol I chuckled as well. Should just read as the (Zoom) option.
Burritoclock @ Jul 21st 2008 2:24PM
Didn't this have a different name two days ago...?
baby sea tuna @ Jul 21st 2008 2:25PM
So, basically they're going to fix all of the problems with the 360 game...but replace it with shitty graphics and no tension. Sounds like a lousy tradeoff, not to mention the fact that it takes precious resources away from making Dead Rising 2. :/ grrr
Benny @ Jul 21st 2008 2:31PM
Not too sure what everyone's issue is. The lack of zombies is kind of lame, but graphics aren't everything. The changes that are being made seem really positive, and are hopefully a sign of things to come in Dead Rising 2.
If you've played it on the 360 already there's little reason to buy this, but for those with just a Wii this is a chance to play a fantastic game.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 2:37PM
Except they cant add the parts that made it fantastic.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 21st 2008 2:53PM
If you've played it on the 360 already there's little reason to buy this, but for those with just a Wii this is a chance to play a fantastic game that Capcom royally cocked-up when porting
/FTFY
Dirk Dorkelson @ Jul 21st 2008 3:47PM
I really don't understand the people who complain about the game's timed structure and want Dead Rising to be structured just like every other, "We'll spoonfeed you the plot as you lumber through the game" title.
Complaining about the game's timed nature/structure/save system is like complaining that there aren't enough robots in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or enough boss battles in "Pac-Man: Championship Edition."
God, please just let those of us who are tired of every sandbox game having almost exactly the same mission/faction-based structure have just this one title that we can love for its innovation.
As I've said on this site and others, Dead Rising's structure are what made it one of my favorite games to begin with. It's so nice to have a game with a plot that's not simply scripted to the player's arrival. When people say, "Hurry up and do this!" you actually have to hurry, not stop off for some nachos, smash in some zombies' heads, take a detour to the other end of the mall and maybe wander over to the part of the mall that triggers the scripted event at some undetermined point in the future.
kaneda @ Jul 21st 2008 5:49PM
"Complaining about the game's timed nature / structure/ save system is like complaining that there aren't enough robots in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or enough boss battles in "Pac-Man: Championship Edition."
You are absolutely correct. The only difference being that Dead Rising actually HAS a timed nature, 'structure', and save system where the bullshit you list is absent from the respective game.
Dirk Dorkelson @ Jul 22nd 2008 4:44AM
Kaneda,
Let me rephrase then.
Complaining that Dead Rising needs "fixing" because of its structure/save system is akin to saying that Oblivion would be better with robots, or that Pac-Man: Championship Edition needs boss battles. It's not like every other sandbox game on the planet because it was a design choice. And there are a lot of us who love it for that reason.
KeenCommander @ Jul 21st 2008 2:34PM
Wow, even I'm not impressed - and I'm a bit of a Nintendo fanboy. They could do better...much, much better.
Giroro @ Jul 21st 2008 2:36PM
I'm hoping that it will improve (visually) before release, but what's with this "more casual friendly" crap? This isn't the kind of game that should be marketed to the 'casual' audience.
131172 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:38PM
The Japan title is Dead Rsiing: Zombie Sacrifice which is pretty OK to me. Then Capcom US(I suppose) decided on this lame "Chop Till You Drop" title. Nice effort by the marketing team...
Oh, and the screenshots looks like something from the late 90s or some mobile phone games.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 21st 2008 2:39PM
I was sorta looking forward to this, then I saw the screens.
Thanks Capcom, it wasn't bad enough that I can't get new Okami boxart, now I can't even buy one of my favorite 360 games. I understand the Wii doesn't have the CPU power, but give me a fucking break. 10 zombies? Battalion Wars has all out battles that can have almost 60 units at once, and you can only get it to 10 zombies?
I so hope I'm wrong, and that these screens are from the Easy mode or something, because I have no faith in them bringing RE5 to the Wii.
J.Goodwin @ Jul 21st 2008 2:46PM
Well, the number of zombies does increase over time in the game as you level up. This isn't necessarily the be all end all, but I'd be astonished if the Wii could come up with anything close to the real thing, even in low-def.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 21st 2008 2:55PM
I didn't expect the real thing, but I didn't expect 10 zombies either. The Wii could probably handle 20-25 at once, maybe up to 30 if they did disappearing corpses and cheaped the death animations.
Joe @ Jul 21st 2008 2:48PM
I don't get it. If they were going to do a port, why not do it to the PS3? It would've made more sense.
J.Goodwin @ Jul 21st 2008 2:57PM
I presume that it's next-gen exclusive to the 360.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 3:44PM
"it's next-gen exclusive to the 360"
Whut u tryin tuh say there boa?!!
Ohhhh, thems fightin words JGoodwin!!
:P
arrrgh @ Jul 21st 2008 3:01PM
hey capcom instead of gaying up the game and throwing it on the Wii, how about a multiplayer co op SEQUEL to an amazing game
giant step backwards for teh fail.
Cyro @ Jul 21st 2008 3:02PM
They should just scratch this and Get working on Dead Rising 2 for all consoles and thats it.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 21st 2008 3:50PM
Yo Cyro, here's a better pic of Marcus for your Joystiq avatar.
