Gene expansion can be a tricky undertaking, as Konami learned this past Thursday when the first premium
Metal Gear Online expansion pack was released and promptly generated a host of service issues. Actually, in Konami's words: "major system related problems" (and we're not just talkin'
convoluted access this time). In fact, so damaging has the upgrade been that it takes a 37-entry
timeline just to brief us on the drama leading up to the completed refund on Saturday. For those wondering about the "foreseeable future," here are the most current updates:
- MGO Shop - "At 18:00 on July 19th 2008, there are still no permanent solutions as yet. IP restrictions still stand, but it is planned that a different will be used and we expect the waiting times for purchases to be improved as a result."
- Reward Shop - "At 18:00 on July 19th 2008, there are currently no set time schedules on its re-opening. We will make further announcements on this site should the situation change in any way, so please keep checking the site for further updates."
"We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere apologies for the problems that have affected all our customers that have been with us since the start of the 'Premiere Beta,'" Konami writes, concluding, "We are currently doing all in our powers to bring a permanent solution to the ongoing problems in the quickest possible time." In the meantime, we suggest you play through the single-player campaign ...

Luckily I don't buy DLC unless its worth it so I'm not experience any problem other then it takes 10-15 mins to join a match and the usual problems.

I don't see Konami keeping this server up past a year. You'd think they learned their lesson from all the MGS3 online problems.

TRIPLE FLAMESHIELD wouldn't that burn you alive? Also it is Flame Shiled +3 Counters.This could be a -1 so remove 1 counter from your Flame shield.

took me like 3 days to get it to work. Metal Gear has been hell since the beta. With all the sign ups and ID's to remember and the site going out all the time and people paying money and not getting the add on. They better learn from this fast. Next time just use the PSN.

technically.. PSN would be useful if you download something.. but the way konami have this set up.. 'everyone' gets the expansion.. but certain features are locked.
It's impossible for them to use PSN.. because their problem isn't distribution.. they weren't complains about not being able to get the update. It's purely traffic. And don't forget that this isn't an USA game only... they're doing this around the world all at once.

Of course they would have to take out the mode where you play as snake (Sneak Mode) since technically that would mean Snake is on teh 360.

aside from pausing after rolling, getting grabed in cqc 12 feet away, useless stun-escape joystick molesting (side to side doesnt work), three gernades for one kill. I'd say MGO is pretty good. It was free with the purchase of MGS4 so i cant complain.
they wont let me in the beginners lobbies. only big boss left. OH WELL.
One thing i have learned from the gaming industry. The people who wait get the better deals.

this is not a PSN problem, this problem is because Konami decided not to use the PSN Store and PSN way of doing updates, instead they use their home built service, sometimes you must go to the people that know how to do it. Konami/Kojima Productions, you know how to write good games, but you have no idea of what is needed to write a Web Service. maybe trying to being cheap without the need to pay Sony for their PSN services (payment processing, etc..)

like Boom! said, the problem is Konami is relying on their own content servers to deliver everything, having a seperate login and matchmaking servers for the game is fine but all the content should be delivered via the PSN store. Also having the option to launch MGO from the XMB would be more favorable than loading MGS4 first.

Metal Gear came to the original Xbox but yet you think it won't come to this one? seeing as companies make games because is there passion and they wanna make money so right I'm gonna say they wanna make money since they already made the game thus the passion of making it is gone, and putting on the 360 would make them why more money then putting on the PS3 alone.

Seriously.... does this really matter? I'm a PS3 owner, and I could care less if it went to the 360. Awesome! You guys should all get a chance to play it on your console of choice! It's simply a great, entertaining game.
