Sorry but it's late so I didn't read all of it. I read half of it though and it seemed interesting. Very informative. Law isn't a subject I'm especially interested in (though some flatmates would love to read your articles) but I find some of your articles still interesting and thats hard to do with law so well done. I found your one last week especially interesting.

Just curious, has any other Joystiq read has to sign an NDA for something game-related?

I had to when I was visiting Firaxis games to tour the offices (the nearby college MICA had set the meeting up to make up for the fact that a last minute change in schedule forced me to miss a seminar on story boarding) and played a bit of Railroads! before it was released.

Well aside from the EndWar Beta, I was called by Microsoft a few years ago for potential focus testing and before they asked questions about me to see if I was a good candidate, I had to agree to not talk about what questions they were asking.

Turns out (I think) the game in question was the Blinx sequel.

I still don't understand why they have NDA's for press. If you don't want them talking about it then don't show them it. Maybe I'm thinking about it too simplistically, but I just don't see the point.

The press gets a chance to prepare a number of articles on the subject so when the NDA is lifted they can immediately send it to print.

But I've heard of NDA's that aren't lifted until over 3 months for the press, and I don't see the point of that at all.

What is the purpose of showing a member of the media a game if they can't talk about it? That's the whole reason why you would show them in the first place.
