Uh-oh, looks like that dreaded four-letter word is about to strike again. Y'know the one that PS3 fans fear: P-O-R-T. It appears that the upcoming PS3 version of BioShock isn't doing much to take advantage of the PS3, at least from a visual standpoint. According to both Joystiq and Videogamer.com, the PS3 version of BioShock looks identical to the original Xbox 360 version. 2K Games senior producer Melissa Miller told Videogamer.com that "we're looking to match the quality of the original version. We want to make sure that the water is just as great, and I think you can see from the demonstration, that it looks no different from the 360 version."
News that BioShock's PS3 Trophies may be identical to Xbox 360's Achievements came as a sign that this would be a pretty straight port, with little enhancement to make up for the one year delay on PS3. At the very least, the PS3 version of BioShock will have access to exclusive DLC and will have Home support.

Wasn't really expecting much more than a straight port, but I'll be picking this up anyways.

Killzone???? , that's not coming till latter .
But seriously , I WON'T be getting BioShock , for some reason I'm just not interested in it , I saw a video of it and thought No .
TBH the only games that I'm looking forward too at all are LBP , FF13 (just because it's multi-plat doesn't mean we can't enjoy the superiour version on our PS3's ) , FF13Versus , and Killzone 2 , Fat Princess , and RC:Quest for Booty . And maybe I'll get Resistance 2 when it's a GREATEST HIT , but Killzone is looking alot better . (I tried the demo for R1 , it looked like a great game but the controls {mostly the sights } threw me off )
PS. I'm glad FF13 is getting ported , this way Square won't go broke , Xbots can try it , and for one the 360 will be getting the crappy port .

Not really surprised at all. They don't need to spend the time making it look any better than the 360 version (and they don't need to in my opinion).
No 360 owner who has this game is going to buy this because it is "tweaked" graphically.
Those who buy it on the PS3 are those of us that are interested in the game but don't own a 360. The fact that it is now available in the first place is the incentive to pick it up - not graphical superiority.

I'll probably buy the PS3 version even though I have the 360 version already, just for an excuse to play this excellent game again. As far as the graphics go, I hope it does look identical to the 360 version because it was a gorgeous game.

Why do these supposed-PS3 screens look way better than the 360 version then? (I've played it on 360)
Posted: Jul 22nd 2008 3:48PM (Unverified) said
They do? I suppose we can always wait for the obligatory (and asinine) comparison video that will come on gametrailers but if the developer says it's the same, I'm going to pretty much take their word for it.

because screenshots always look better than what your TV can output.
if anything they could've matched how the PC version looks, which is visually superior to the 360 version.

the game looked amazing as it was on the 360. I'm hoping it looks the same and not worse. Alot of Devs say its the same on both systems when its not. So I'm hoping this isn't one of those cases. I played the demo on the 360 and thought it was a cool game but I'm burnt out on shooters right now.

It may not look different, but it will sound different. I'm looking forward to not having to play it on my obnoxiously loud Elite... I only game on that as a last resort.

Which is worse?
The fact the this blog entry complains about the fact that the games are alike, or the fact the posters are as well?
Bioshock is a phenominal game on the 360. It will be an amazing game on the PS3.
Throw in trophy support and exclusive DLC, it's win/win scenerio.
What's the problem???

It's an old game.
My cousin has this on his 360. He was about half-way through the game so I started a new game and we'd take turns playing. So I saw the first-half through my file and the second half through his.
What I experienced was a casual first person shooter that had a whole lot more to look at than actually do. The shooting is so...Doom, that I eventually got tired of trying and just started running past enemies.
I'm saying this isn't Oblivion or Metal Gear Solid 4, amazingly in-depth games with much replay value. So if you've beaten this game already, there isn't much incentive to buy it. I just don't think it has the depth to keep me coming back for more.
But if you love it, then you love it. I love Uncharted and it's pretty straight forward, yet I find myself replaying it from time-to-time.

This game and Lost Odyssey were what "forced" me to get a 360 in February even though I really didn't want to. This game was a system seller for me and probably other people as well so they don't need to make any changes. This game is incredible just the way it is.
@drdre74
This game is not your typical shooter. It feels more RPG-ish with the "spells" you can cast, upgrades you get and the really immersive storytelling and environment. I hated FPS games before Bioshock and this game is what brought me around

Hey Amos, I was really intrigued by Lost Planet when it was on the 360 and when it came to the PS3 I dutifully downloaded the demo to find that I really didn't like the gameplay.
Is the full game any better?
I'm still intrigued by the story and maybe I didn't give it its due chance. Might still pick it up if a good deal appears in the future.
Just interested as it sounds like you're a fan of the game ... and I thought I would be too.

It's been reported that the DLC is basically a lot of "sub-games" or tasks and are not canonical to the story. So, there's extra things to do but they are not integral to the plot.
And, once again, a game can be released as "Home compatible" without Home available. Developers have known for some time now what they need to incorporate from a functional perspective in their games for it to work with Home. It's quite possible that Bioshock can be released without Home on the market and then when Home does appear, voila, you can access the Bioshock Game Space, launch from Home etc.
One is not dependent on the other.

Does it sound better because sound plays a big role in how something looks and the more varied the sounds are the better.

I got my hopes up that this version would be graphically superior to the 360 version. I guess all those reports of the designers saying they wanted to make this one the "de facto" version of the game were all bullshit.
btw adolson, I think you're on the Megadeth forums with me. Unless I'm getting confused again.

I was hoping that they would at least add an online mode or something. This game has ZERO replay factor. It's a good game but once you finish it which doesn't take very long that's it.
Posted: Jul 22nd 2008 2:28PM (Unverified) said
I've heard that from my 360 friends as well. That said, I almost applaud short games these days. There's too many good games to play. I don't have time to play games once, nevermind a replay.

That's a real disappointment. Why no effort to make this game worth buying for the crowd that's already played it? -_-
Surely they must know that the cost of buying a second console just to play this game didn't stop most working professionals...

same widescreen technique that almost all PS2 games used(hell the only game on PS2 i know of that had proper widescreen was FFXII though that's off topic lol),. i doubt the PS3 version would be any different ,. that's kinda like adding it extra stuff, cuz the extra image on the left & right would have to be added in to make in widescreen without having to cut the top and bottom. so without extra work, it's either cut the top & bottom, or resize the current image,. I don't recall the image being cut off like shown in that pic though when I played the demo of bioshock last fall when I had rent a 360 for Halo3,.

X-Play had a "behind the scenes with Bioshock for the PS3" last night, and they did say they're up-rezing some of the pre-rendered video that they had to cut back on the 360 version due to disc space constraints.
