Oldman confirms Dark Knight game, G4 pulls video

Far be it from us to tell Electronic Arts how to run its business, but one would think that announcing a long-since-leaked game based on a hugely anticipated movie which just so happened to premier the very same week of the industry's largest press event would be – what we in the video game blogging business call – "a no-brainer." But, then again, we're not Electronic Arts so, despite being first rumored and then leaked by IGN over a year ago, Pandemic's totally secret adaptation of The Dark Knight did not make its debut during the serendipitous collision of E3 and Batman-mania last week.
As if EA's counter-intuitive marketing plan wasn't funny enough, an interview on G4 with Commissioner Gordon himself, Gary Oldman, revealed – surprise! – that a game was indeed in development. Oldman stopped short of naming developer Pandemic or EA, but we all know the score; in response, G4 had the video removed from YouTube as well as their own site. Our favorite part from the interview teaser reel? When Oldman says, "It's hard to make a movie like this under the radar." You know what, we were just thinking the same thing about games ...

If it's half as awesome as the movie, it could damn near be game of the year. And that's saying something.
samfish @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:21PM
We all know that won't happen, though.
The only GREAT Batman games are Batman on the NES and Batman Returns on the SNES.
The Adventures of Batman & Robin on the SNES was alright, too.
Lijik @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:54AM
There was a really awesome one on the Genesis too, the name escapes me though. I do recall the Mad Hatter stage being a complete work of art.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:05PM
Awesome movie...
A game though? I highly doubt it will do it justice.
Let's put a smile on that face....
Ignatius @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:06PM
Why would anyone keep a movie game under wraps? It's like crapping in a box, wrapping it up nice and pretty... and showing up at your best friend's birthday party.
Movie games suck, period.
Ben! @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:52PM
Should we be pretending that Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was bad? Or even the first Spiderman game? Goldeneye? Riddick (a fuck of a lot better than the movie)?
I agree that many movies based on video games suck, but your arrogant little "Period" remark was enough to annoy the fuck out of me.
Plus, Pandemic was responsible for the pretty awesome Mercenaries game. They could go a similar, sandbox-style route for Dark Knight and be in great shape.
Arttemis @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:03PM
The fact that it wasn't out a month ago (and still isn't out) already seems to break with traditional shitty movie-game style.
Perhaps this game is actually getting polish?
It was fairly obvious to see that several more months of development would have exponentially improved Sega's Iron Man and Hulk games.
Chase @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:10PM
Here's hoping it's a good adaptation of the film.

Wish you could play as the Joker and do some magic tricks
Huey2k2 @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:40PM
As long as you can make a pencil disappear, I will buy the game.

He's gonna need to dig some tombs and Cadmus' help with the sister part...
P.S. I did get it
Vcize @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:13AM
I thought he was charged with "Verbally Assaulting" them, not physically assaulting them (yes verbal assault is an actual crime in the UK apparently).
So technically, you'd only get to yell at your mom and sister in the game.
kavendano14 @ Jul 22nd 2008 9:46PM
So, did anybody get the video?

it's a superhero movie game, it'll suck, move on
theturtle363 @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:48PM
Spider-Man 2 was a great game. The Batman Begins game wasnt half bad either. Where is your God now?
Ignatius @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:36PM
Still coughing up blood from that horrendous Superman 64 game.
Lijik @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:57AM
Wait wait wait wait, slow down, Superman 64 was based on a MOVIE?
So somewhere, out there, theres a movie about Art Deco Superman flying through hoops and beating up random thugs surrounded by pink kryptonite fog?
That has to be the most horrid creation of all time.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 23rd 2008 8:05AM
Why do you think it's been locked away without mankind knowing its whereabouts for so long? Superman buried Superman 64: The Movie deep on the moon to save us from it.
colin @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:48PM
I saw it today after several failed attempts ... maybe it was just too hyped and i expected more, but i thought begins was much better.
ShadowflareXIII @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:46PM
I freakin' love the new Batman...its every bit of dark and pissed off as it should have been in the first place.
PLEASE! **PLEASE** let the game be free-roaming mission based!!! I would kill for a game in this atmosphere that surpassed Spiderman 2.
..and I mean that too.
...and that batmo--- no... Bat*TANK*!....absolute *must*!
...you have your mission...get to it!
Batzarro @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:03AM
This can go either 2 ways
1) The "Treyarch way": Shove in all the villains that matter and Mad Hatter. They should be as lame as posible.
2) A generic open ended game, where there is no viable end. It can't even have the movies villains cause the dinky story happens AFTER the movie.
3)The Necromonger way...
GoldenS1104 @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:10AM
I have much higher hopes for a movie based game when the movie is good and the game isn't released simultaneously with the movie. Although, I'm sure it will be mediocre at best. We can only hope it doesn't flop. :/
CJLopez @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:34PM
I was just wondering, if they make the video, with cutscenes, who will do the jokers voice??? or they will grab the audio right from the movie?
Waqman @ Jul 23rd 2008 9:09PM
Yeah with Heath dead who's going to do the voice? Because honestly that voice sounds IMPOSSIBLE to imitate. You could easily imitate other voices but this one just seems so damn hard. And if they don't pull audio straight from the movie then well....the VO work is going to be horrendous. So bad I'll probably have to mute the game while I play it.
Jokes47 @ Jul 28th 2008 3:02AM
They COULD pull the audio from the movie, Im sure they might be able to clean it up a little bit, They just need to put his actual laughing from the movie in if anything else, if they decide to fuck around and re cast for the Jokers voice, Just give us Heaths morbid cackle. I thought I heard that it might not be out til the DVD releases so they should be able to make the clips from the movie pair in nice.
