Battlestar scribes working on Aliens: Colonial Marines
We were so angry with the Writer's Guild of America strike back when it was messing up Lost, 24 and Ugly Betty ... The Daily Show. Now though, we in the video game industry (and appreciators of it) are reaping the rewards with a lot of upcoming games' scripts having come from the pens of some very talented folk. The latest example is Aliens: Colonial Marines, which Gearbox's Randy Pitchford recently told ShackNews was being written by Battlestar Galactica's Bradley Thompson and David Weddle.
Does that mean we can expect the aliens to [insert BSG fan service gag here] or a head marine voiced by [some BSG actor guy goes here]? Also, does it mean that Justin should watch Battlestar if he's going to be posting about it? Yes. Yes it does.

WhoMe @ Jul 23rd 2008 3:47PM
Yeah, I *heard* there would be co-op and each player could get a special weapon, like the smart gun, flamer, shotgun, etc.
I this turns out to be the case, I'm gonna be all over this like n00bs on CS! Fuck, I'm gonna be all over it anyway, it ALIENS!!
Negativecool @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:36PM
I want:
Everytime you die in the game...The screen fades out to "Game over man, game over!" like MGS's "Snake? SNAAAAKE!?"
Gimmie

Justin shouldn't watch Battlestar because he's posting about it. He should watch Battlestar because it's one of the best written, directed and acted dramas on television.
Ben @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:58PM
I will reiterate what Alan said
xxHughesxx @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:16PM
Where is this reiteration you speak of?
I think someone doesnt understand the meaning of reiterate.
RudyHuxtable @ Jul 23rd 2008 2:41PM
Yes, el Guapo. I would say you have a plethora.
Mike M. @ Jul 23rd 2008 3:57PM
I will reiterate what hughes said.
Someone here doesn't know the meaning of the word 'reiterate'.
riggs @ Jul 23rd 2008 6:54PM
it is NOW, after the wire series ended :D
TwistedBishop @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:43PM
The same Battlestar Galactica that has been awful for two solid seasons?
Fan-tastic!
baby sea tuna @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:17PM
That's what I was thinking. No matter how much I try, I just can't get excited enough to watch the season 4 eps that are sitting on my DVR.
Marcus Albers @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:19PM
Which show have you been watching? I'll admit, the third season was a bit of a letdown, but it's still a far cry from any other sci-fi on television currently.
Oh, you were probably confused watching the reruns of Galactica: 1980 on hulu.com. That understandable.
Churchy @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:00PM
Psh, does an Aliens game really need a script? Isn't "shoot aliens" a good enough story?
Boffo the Sock @ Jul 23rd 2008 2:55PM
You're absolutely right. The original Aliens film had such a terrible story. I mean, the damn thing has been mimicked countless times. There is no way a video game of any quality could be made by using the Aliens universe as a framework.
Will @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:26PM
BSG has gotten a little soap oprea for my taste. I would really hate the same thing to happen to this game. please lets keep the cut scenes to a minimum.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:41PM
It's always been much more a character drama than anything else, but I think with the show winding down to the end, it has been heavier in that area more than usual. Personally, I like it. It is always written and acted well, and it gives the show a very mature feeling, more so than a lot of shows (not just sci-fi) on TV.
Will @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:52PM
I am all for character driven (re: BSG I hope colonial marines is not character driven) but love triangles, evil twins and killing characters and then bringing them back are all right out the soap opera cannon. I'd like to see stronger story arcs within episodes and less stringing me along with crazy plot twists.
Darth Cheney @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:41PM
Holy crap! This is the first time I've heard this game was coming out. Sweet!
Ass Masterson @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:42PM
If it's anything like BG they'll have the aliens preach for hours about how horrible and warlike mankind is, after they wipe out most of our species. That show got so ridiculous, preachy, left-wing, and idiotic.
bookishboy @ Jul 23rd 2008 2:36PM
This story is woefully lacking in the word "frak", a shortcoming that I hope the comments will address.
Jeff @ Jul 23rd 2008 3:56PM
Just came in to post that Battlestar Galactica is a frakin amazing show. I'm not a big fan of TV-- I generally consider it a complete waste of time-- but me and my girlfriend are just starting on Season 3. She's as addicted as I am.
FSK405K @ Jul 23rd 2008 4:11PM
So there's at least one reason to think the new Alien game will not be complete $|+|!^.
TwEE @ Jul 23rd 2008 4:23PM
Love Battlestar and Aliens you say?
Im happy as a pig in shit..
Just had a little flash back to Alien Vs. Predator for the jaguar. After a quick youtube search I realized the version I play in my head aged a hell of a lot better..
Waqman @ Jul 23rd 2008 7:37PM
Great show. I really hope they don't mess this one up though. The first two Alien movies (by Ridley Scott - my favorite director and James Cameron - very epic director) were very well done sci-fi. The sequels, however, were just garbage.
If they can recapture the atmosphere of the Alien movies, similar to what EA's Dead Space is doing, then sign me up!
