In a season of Hollywood blockbusters, it's no wonder why Electronic Arts would want to sink its teeth into the movie industry's delicious celluloid pie. This morning the company announced that it signed with talent and literary agency, UTA, to help catapult its properties onto the silver screen.
EA currently has a movie deal in the works for The Sims, as well as plans to bring an animated version of MySims to TV. In addition, earlier this year EA signed a deal with Starz Media to develop an animated prequel to Dead Space, as well as other unspecified franchises. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, as EA notes that this new deal will "significantly ramp up" efforts to bring its IP to other forms of entertainment, such as movies and television, as well as online, print, and social networks. With some of these projects likely to surface this week in San Diego during Comic-Con, are there any EA properties you could see yourself sitting through with a bucket of popcorn in your lap?

Oh, God, that's a little embarassing for gamers. I don't even know what to say about this one. The Sims the movie? Speechless.

Indeed, how would that even WORK? Some sort of Truman Show-esque monstrosity?
Interested in the Dead Space animated prequel. From what I've seen of the game the aestethic is appealing and the plot (from reading the article on wikipedia) seems interesting. We shall see.

The Sims? will they translate what they're saying so we can understand or might they forget to teach them how to cook and burn the house down and spare us a movie or tv show based on THE SIMS

It wouldn't be the Sims if at least one house didn't burn down.

Clearly we need a Madden movie, starring John Madden as a brain-damaged football announcer
(it's funny because it's true)

Except wouldn't Right Wing Russia imply fascists (the polar opposite of true communism)?

I think in the Sims movie, one sim should discover that he is in a game and being controlled and that life is too perfect....oh wait, thats been done...okay, how about 1 sim goes on an epic journey to destroy a ring threatening to destroy the very world....look, why don't they just make a movie about a sim being born, being controlled and dying, speaking simlish so we don't have to hear what they are saying :)

EA has been a powerhouse for years, and this comes as no big surprise. You would be surprised at some of the ideas that are out there for movies. Anyone can submit an idea for a movie. Especially now that there are websites such as http://www.inktalent.com
Who knows maybe they will make a video game of Animal Crossing too.

In a season of Hollywood blockbusters... only one game company can rescue gamers from quality games. That company is... EA-Man. Coming Summer 2009.

Yeah, because a movie about people going on with their daily lives and talking to each other has never been made. Seriously, what can they do with this? I doubt there will be any interesting philosophical twist, either.
It's hard to think of a way to adapt any Sim game because a Sim game is a simulation of reality and a Sim game movie would be a simulation of a simulation of reality.
