Finally! It's your turn to watch last year's Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer
We're not certain how many months of grinding it took this anonymous cameraman (or woman!) to level up high enough to brave Square Enix's impenetrable fortress, but we do know our hero scored big. Nearly two minutes of Final Fantasy Versus XIII CG footage (shaky as it is) is like the equivalent of all the gil that's stuffed inside the Shinra vault. Better yet, it's aged footage, the type of mana-oozing fluff reel -- note the pretentious, clichéd text in italiano, ovviamente -- that's only ever been eye-balled by suits and trusted VIPs. So let us all take a moment of silence, and push from our minds the gruesome fate that must have befallen our dear hero in the final, and sudden instant that this video is abruptly cut short. Thank you, oh noble ally of the masses, your contribution will not soon be forgotten.

If Sony don't scramble to buy up exclusive rights to Versus, I'll lose all faith in them. (Well, what little faith I have left.)
As long as Versus is exclusive to their console, Sony can claim that you can only get the 'full FFXIII experience' on the PS3.

Because Square is fucking weird... they are so secretive about their preRenderedCG trailers. First they show that FFXIII prerendered trailer 3 years ago, then one more time behind close doors, then another time that is slightly more extended, then they show it again at the 360 event but G4 has to pull back their camera...
Seriously SquareEnix is the most fucking annoying company. They are so secretive about nothing. It's not like anyone would understand the trailers if they showed them up front.

Exclusives are a necessary part of the gaming industry, but we as gamers, should not encourage them. We should try and let everyone possible have the same enjoyment as we do, regardless of which consumer purchase they made.
If the game comes to the 360, it means NOTHING to ps3 supporters, AND it makes a lot of other people happy. So whats wrong with that?

I'm pissed that FF13 is going to 360 because it just means tha , even tho more can enjoy it , there just won't be as much enjoyment because of it going multi-plat . Why don't they just annocne it for Wii , porting the 360 port to the wii won't be that hard .

Exclusivity only hurts the gaming community. I own a PS3 and wish I could have played Mass Effect and Bioshock day 1. And as a huge MGS4 fan, I wish 360 owners could share in that experience as well.
I don't get why it's a good thing for gamers when one side gets shafted (and both sides do get shafted).

If I only had 1 I would also care how well it did, why would you want to end up with a $350+ system that doesn't have any more games coming to it? Gamers are hypocrites, when it goes to the console with a higher install base its a smart move, but if it goes to the consoles with a smaller install base, its stupid and should be multiplat so all can have fun.
Its great to have all consoles, but even I believe if sacrafices are made, so too more should be made, why should it be okay for 360 gamers to bask in joy of having fallout dlc, gears or what not, but anything exclusive on PS3 should be made multiplat to please everyone? I visa Versa, you can't have things one way, if devs are going multiplat, they should remain that way, not giving 1 rule for one and another rule for another.

because they will have to take things away from the game for it to fit on a dvd(unless they put it on like 12 discs ) , or manage to run on the 360's proccesor .
Take for example GTAIV , Liberty City was being planned to be much bigger . But that just wouldn't fit on the 360's DVD's , and since they can't force installs , since not all 360's come with a HDD , they had to tune down the experience .
Also , the ghostbusters game , because the 360 version had to be equal to the PS3 version , the sound and graphics were toned down .
Now unless they make the PS3 version completlty different , it will not be what it could have been .

This is why I got a PS3 , when a game is exclusive to it , the devs will use it's power to gain hype . I think exclusives are great , since then PS games are better , and 360 games I can play on my PC , leaving no need to get a 360 . (Maybe I will get a wii) Netflix and home , I could also get on my PC in the forms of second life , and well Netflix

I'd completely agree with you if both sides had the same marketshare and userbase, but frankly the PS3 is lagging behind so it needs the boost to make the competition heat up again.
Without Sony and Microsoft competing, Microsoft would have to start doing battle with Nintendo for the ever lucrative casual market, and then there goes any hope of real games.

In all seriousness when gamers say "this game looks amazing" at CGI cut scenes that show no gameplay do you mean the gameplay looks amazing or the movie?
I've always wondered about this. When they first showed the MSG4 cutscenes everyone was like "OMZG THIS GAME LOOKS AMAZING!" but there was no game just a movie.

A lot of gamers, fans of Japanese games in particular, are in it for the "experience," rather than for any particular aspect of a game. So, when someone says "This game looks amazing" based solely off a CG cutscene, what they mean is "I am excited about this game because of the experience it promises." Particularly with games in a franchise, where gameplay changes little from one installment to the other, you can get a feel for how you'll like a game without seeing any gameplay. But that's just my take on it.

Well, a game is more than just gameplay. Art style, story direction, character design, cut scenes, graphics, music, and a whole bunch of other stuff all come together to make the game.
A CGI video like this doesn't show a lot, but it does show a bit. And the bit that this particular video shows is pretty damn nifty. The only thing stopping me getting hyped about it is the fact that it ain't coming out till 2010 at the earliest.

The gameplay is more akin to Kingdom Hearts than Final Fantasy.
It's called Final Fantasy Versus XIII because it has the same mythos as FFXIII (so it's set in the same world, with the same backstory), but it has no other connection with FFXIII. It's sort of a spin-off, but isn't really. It's a pseudo-spin-off, if you like.

The reason it's labeled as FF13 is because Squeenix is making a series of games under the FF13 brand which have nothing to do with eachother but revolve around a common major plot device.
