Do you heart Kingdom Hearts – especially the idea of a new game in the series for Nintendo DS? Then you'll be happy to hear that the Japanese manual for Square Enix's recently released Dragon Quest V remake contains an ad promising a 2008 release for Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days ... in Japan, of course.
Revealed at last year's Tokyo Game Show, the next handheld Kingdom Hearts features a four-player co-op mode and follows the adventures of series protagonist Sora's "Nobody" twin, Roxas (above). Even though the game looks like it's hitting Japan this year, we'll still have to wait out the necessary localization before seeing it Stateside. At least the ad isn't merely a "coming soon" tease like the one for God of War III.

I'm sure it will make a lot more sense once you play the game.

Yeah! I mean, think back to your playthroughs of KH and KH2... when did a story element or title NOT make sense?
...oh wait

What a lame picture. Honestly Tetsuya Nomura (or whatever his name is) is probably one of the worst character designers ever. Look how stereotypically gothic/emo this kid looks. With the overuse of zippers. And then you get his lame generic Japanese anime hair.
Were they even trying with this one?

Were they even trying? Is that even a serious question? Look at the original character designs from KH and KH2. That answers your question right there - hell no they weren't.

As sad as it might sound, this is one of Nomura's more reasonable designs.
Not really sure what happened to him. I rather enjoyed his designs of Final Fantasy VII for the most part. Now the only design he knows how to do is throw a million belts and zippers on his characters.

God damit, why a DS version? Aren't the psp and DS pretty close to sales numbers.
I just don't like the way DS rpg characters look like cartoon bobble heads or the overall fruity colors and all (i.e: FFIV DS).
Oh and no I'm not a psp fanboy or anything. We have 2 DS's and a psp in our house. Frankly, I don't care for either, would much rather have a 360/ps3 version. But if I had to choose my rpgs, would probably go with the psp.

'Mature' art style isn't always an indicator of qualit... wait, we're talking about KH, shit was fruity to begin with.

No, mature art style never meant better quality game.
However, I know I most likely won't play a game that looks it fell into a box of fruit loops (and not even counting blocky graphics and all that).
Kingdom hearts, never had "fruity" graphics. In terms of colors it was your typical non fps game.

Kingdom Hearts fell into the fruit loops vat pretty often. Did we play the same game? Hell, if the art style wasn't enough, the story, the character relationships, the characters themselves, they're all pretty fruity.
You're right, it was just as colorful as most non-FPS games... it just managed to give off a feel, a certain (I hate overusing this word but it's the only one that fits) fruity aura that most games I've played, even the most colorful (like, say, SMG) didn't give off.

I think we have differing opinions of what fruity means.
If you look at the FF IV for DS screens than you'll know what I mean by fruity, blocky graphics. They make we want to throw up (on a game I would've otherwise liked to play).
I think what you mean by fruity is that it simply had disney characters and the main characters were kids.

Nah, cuz I've played colorful RPGs with kids as main characters that I've enjoyed. It's just that, well, the characters in Kingdom Hearts sucked. I enjoyed the Disney/FF characters (though the new art style made EVERY LAST ONE of the FF characters look like shit), but the original characters in KH and KH2 were straight up lame. The way in which they would react with each other was lame. The fact that almost each and every one of 'em had 2D cookie-cutter personalities and character development was lame.
I've never liked Kingdom Hearts, but it's for a lot more reasons than that. The art style is the very least of 'em - in fact, I enjoyed the art style, to an extent. To say it wasn't fruity, though? That's kinda tough. Super rounded edges on every structure, a color scheme that would put even the most ambitious Nintendo project to shame... combine that with the aforementioned qualities of KH and you've got yourself one fruity number.

Well, we just have separate definitions of what constitutes as "fruity". I'll just leave it at that.
On a separate note, I loved the KH story line. Love the new characters (sora, kairi, riku).

GOOD GOD! Kingdom Hearts? Early next year?
SON OF A BITCH!
Looks like my DS purchase is going to come sooner than expected.
I'm so excited for this game. Yes, I'm a diehard KH fan. Also, Birth By Sleep, but I already have a PSP and that game won't arrive until 2056.
