Zero Punctuation visits Conan in Hyboria

No matter how much the hardcore MMORPG crowd may want to deny it, almost every game in the genre wants to be, or wishes it could have been, World or Warcraft. This week's Zero Punctuation says as much, with Yahtzee trying to enjoy his Hyborian adventure but wandering into familiar -- but not quite right -- WoW territory.

A little bit off the mark and not one of the funnier videos. He gets one thing right though; Patch Patch Patch.

Really? Every MMORPG patches more than 1 gig worth of data in the first month alone? Can you name one please?

His way with words just keeps getting better and better.

Maybe he'll figure out the correct way to pronounce some of those words by the next installment. He mangled a few in that flood.

Right on. I tried it but I really didn't feel like it was going anywhere. Also knowing absolutely nothing about the conan history (haven't even seen the movie) made me feel like i'd probably not get a lot of what the game would be about at the later levels.

Although the NPC dialog structure was way better than WOW's crappy skim for quest details and go do it.

Not as funny as the last few, but it killed a few minutes for free, so why complain?

What the shit was that garbage after the video? It looks about as enjoyable as hammering nails through my dick.

The advertisement you hit the pause button for and never look back.

Yeah, I really don't like that they added advertisements to ZP. Blargh.

Well give them lots of money so they can do business and make a profit without ads.

At least they don't put the ads before the video -- unlike IGN's video section which generally convinces me the clip I'm about to see "isn't worth this shit."

You know, these videos get posted like 10 hours before this update ever appears.

They're usually posted at 6PM BST on Wednesdays, but I'm guessing they appear here whenever someone needs an extra post for their quota...

Fairly interesting that there is currently a full screen ad for Age of Conan SURROUNDING the Yahtzee's review on the escapist website. Oops.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I called him "the" Yahtzee either.

I noticed that, shortly before watching the video. Needless to say, I scrutinised every second for untoward niceties... because I'm that sad.

Good the Escapist isn't GS.

All these MMOs have built some pretty amazing worlds... I wish they'd put some games into them.. sigh.

anybody else find it ironic that AoC ads were plastered all over the escapist site while watching a relatively negative review of the game. heh.. at least the review is honest, even though the company hosting it is obviously shilling.

Funny as always (well, almost always) but when he actually "reviews" a game I've played in depth it's hard to ignore the ridiculous ammount of exaggerate he injects into it. It's almost like he needs to skew the facts to make it funny, which is fine. Just saying.
