It's a case of "he said, he said" in the latest chapter of Bungiegate. This time around, the news centers on a comment made by Xbox senior VP Don Mattrick regarding Bungie president Harold Ryan's reaction to being told his company's new Halo game announcement was being struck from Microsoft's pre-E3 media briefing.
According to Eurogamer, the site was told by Mattrick during the show that Ryan had "just laughed" and said "We agree" upon receiving the news. Ryan recalls the conversation quite differently. ""Keeping things clean, I certainly didn't agree with the decision to delay our news until sometime after E3," he told Eurogamer today, adding, "Bungie is always concerned first and foremost with our fans. Whenever we are prevented from exceeding their positive expectations it is not a laughing matter." Oh snap. Begun, these Halo Wars have.

Maybe it wasn't ready and now they are just going to put all the attention on Microsoft because it's not like something new to hate Microsoft.

Halo could have been something special, but its more apparent than ever that Microsoft is going to milk the property dry for all its worth.
It would be great if Bungie could sever their publishing and marketing ties with MS, find another distributor and make these games as they see fit and on their own schedule. They make a show about going "independent" as a studio earlier on in the year, but that clearly doesn't mean a whole lot when your own game can still be pulled out from under your control at the snap of a finger for some B.S. marketing reasons.

I think it was said tongue-in-cheek, with the "keeping things clean" lead-in. That seems to be the tagline for their new game and I bet the "no laughing matter" will make sense later, too. It's just friendly marketing crap. I totally saw Microsoft and Bungie sharing a milkshake at the Peach Pit earlier.

A little late on this news eh guys, this was first shown on Bungie's site atleast 1 week ago.
And yes, this next game will live up to all the hype it has accumulated.

If they think the announcement cancellation was such a terrible thing, they should just go ahead and announce the game now. Right now. And it should be a Joystiq exclusive :D

Bungie should wait a little cause frankly if they announce the game would be the wrong thing to do cause right now if it ain't gonna be released this year why talk about?
Sony can focus on the future cause they already talked about this year last E3 but MS always have shit up there sleeve for next year.

This is why MS can't keep hold of First Party teams.
They treat even their closest, system-selling buddies like BDSM whores locked in their money-basement.

Ah, Bungie. It's good to see at least one company is so dedicated to exceeding the positive expectations of 12 year old racists.

If this is some attempt at viral marketing, it sure is lame. If it is not, then MS needs to re-evaluate their PR staff. Where do they get these people that make them look stupid? Honestly, over the last month, all of the big three console makers have come across as disconnected from their core fan base and looking like idiots in general.

People seem to think the hype machine is evil.
Metal Gear Solid 4 -
Receives perfect 10's and many fanboys call it a 7.0 game
BioShock -
Receives near perfect scores and many fanboys call it a generic shooter with bad plot
Grand Theft Auto 4 -
Receives perfect 10's and many fanboys call it a 7.0 game
But nope, if a game that didn't get that much hype like Uncharted and it receives great scores no fanboys flock to call it a 7.0/10 game.
Halo owns the damn hype machine but for good reason too. The Halo games have been and always will be some of the greatest games of all time. And it's sad fanboys are blinded by the light shining from Halo's glory.

I have all three and none of them are a 7.0 game. They are all quite impressive for different reasons. I think you are quite wrong with your assessment.

BioShock is a generic shooter with a plot that is nothing special. In other kinds of games it'd be a bad plot. For a shooter, it's a better plot than average.
But in the end, the story isn't anything special at all, not worthy of the plaudits it got for that.
The gameplay is good, but not a 10, given the monster closets, only 7 kind of enemies and completely screwed up inventory (i.e. none) system.

I'd like to see Bungie make another Marathon game and go multiplatform with it. That, or make a multiplayer-only Halo game along the lines of an Unreal Tournament, with tons of maps, game types, class-based games, and more. They have an excellent multiplayer component in Halo 3, but a multiplayer-only Halo game would be friggin' fantastic.

Microsoft effectively gave hardcore gamers the finger when they passed up the Bungie announcement in favor of showing a casual movie game. I'm surprised there hasn't been a greater fan backlash against Microsoft.

I think it was crappy to pull the rug out from under bungie on this one. They had put a lot of effort to work toward this announcement to only disappoint their fans. I bet in retrospect MS wish they would have let this out. The MS Presser was only better than the others momentum wise cause the FFXIII announcement. This may have made it a slam dunk moment if they had.
