Burnout Paradise 'Cagney' update delayed again for Xbox 360
Have you ever had that dream where you're running down a hallway but are unable to reach the exit because the doorway is constantly stretching out of reach? For fans of Burnout Paradise for the Xbox 360, this has become a waking nightmare, as Criterion has again pushed back the title's forthcoming "Cagney" update until early August.
Criterion is currently "aiming" to release the free update on August 4, nearly a month after the patch arrived on the PS3. However, according to a post on the dev's website, this merely represents the "earliest" that we can expect it to show up. Interestingly, while the previous hold-up was laid at the feet of Xbox Live's burdensome certification process, this latest information indicates that the update, much like the patience of street carnage virtuosos, is now in the "final stages of testing."

Heh yeah man relax Fernando is a PS3 Hater. Anyway well played Fernando!
Replica23 @ Jul 25th 2008 4:13AM
I'm sorry, I can't help it... :)
giantenemycrab @ Jul 24th 2008 2:50PM
this is like a sick joke, right?
macgyver @ Jul 24th 2008 3:00PM
might as well just combine this with "davis" or "eastwood" or whatever update is next. this is disapointing though to say the least. especially since criterion has allowed the PS3'ers to have calendar events already when they said at the first delay they were going to wait until BOTH platforms could experience the events together.
creid @ Jul 24th 2008 3:56PM
You didn't miss anything. The first day your car selection was restricted, and the first weekend you got to try out the cars that are unlockable in the pre-patch game. All the events are going to be run more than once anyway.
nxtiak @ Jul 24th 2008 3:00PM
I'm so pissed off you have no idea.
I bought a used copy early July expecting to play this on July 10. Now who knows. grrr
Ian @ Jul 24th 2008 4:08PM
OMG INORITE!? THE GAME TOTALLY DOESN'T WORK WITHOUT THIS UPDATE!
Quite whining about free stuff being delayed.
nxtiak @ Jul 24th 2008 4:13PM
Ian: The ONLY reason I bought the game was for the UPDATE.
turkeybaster @ Jul 24th 2008 4:33PM
...That's like buying a new car so you can get the $100 gas card that comes with it.
Xoviet chiK @ Jul 24th 2008 4:38PM
Criterion and EA didn't make any money off your used purchase, they don't really ow you the update or an explanation...
nxtiak @ Jul 24th 2008 4:42PM
OK, here's another thing. I don't buy games. I only own 4 games total (2 360, 2 PS3).
I liked Burnout Paradise. I rented it for 2-3 weeks playing it.
When I heard about the free update and read about all the updates to it (weekly game types like play only certain cars, or unlimited license certain days, etc..) I decided to buy it.
So there, that's why I'm pissed off it's delayed 3 times now.
Fire @ Jul 26th 2008 12:32PM
To those not aware, this update basically introduces true multiplayer to Burnout Paradise with Online Road Rage, Stunt Run, and Marked Man. All this is stuff that should have been on the disc to begin with, so delays with this update are more painful than it would be for a simple "patch".
lordwindowlicker @ Jul 24th 2008 6:22PM
Ian: As a Ps3 user who has been playing Burnout Paradise since the Cagney update.. I can tell you, it improves a LOT.
Physics are tighter, controls seem better.. it is worth bitching about.
Anthony @ Jul 25th 2008 1:40AM
You could do something stupid like... Buy it for the PS3 since you know... You have the PS3 because it has the.... You know... Update...
But that would be... You know... Stupid...
...Just like these stupid dots...

LMFAO Gee'z i feel bad for you guys..Umm dang.
Skunk Ape @ Jul 24th 2008 3:07PM
Its nice to see a studio treat the 360 in the same way PS3 gets treated all the time. Keep up the good work Criterion.
scatman @ Jul 24th 2008 8:19PM
I agree. I'm sick and tired of lazy PS3 ports (I'm looking at you Valve for not developing The Orange Box) and tear-bringing delays(ex: WipEout).
ice~ @ Jul 24th 2008 3:10PM
Seriously this is painful... I have nothing to play on 360 so iwas really hoping for this update to come out, I stayed up till 4 am eastern time with my friend waiting for this... now I definately can't trust an aug 4 release date
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jul 24th 2008 3:33PM
The avalanche is coming. I just browsed the list of games coming out soon and it's sickening what it'll do to my wallet.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 24th 2008 3:44PM
Wow, is there like a massive bug in the game or what? What all does this patch fix?
ice~ @ Jul 24th 2008 5:00PM
the avalanche?? what is that?
Hurlyburlycurly @ Jul 24th 2008 3:11PM
Well somthing for the ps3 fanboy's to cheer about! DLC EARLY for us! :)
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Jul 24th 2008 3:09PM
Annoying of course...but compared to the waits ps3 owners usually suffer thru for a multitude of games I'm willing to grin and bear it..
hotnutz @ Jul 24th 2008 6:33PM
Well Microsoft should have your reburbished 360 back in your hands by the time the update is released. ;)
Waiting several months to play ONE game is a lot better than waiting 2-6 weeks to play any game. Just my opinion though and since this is joystiq, I know it is wrong wrong wrong to voice an honest opinion. Logic checked out years ago and the Flame god of Kalton rules here now.
Derka @ Jul 24th 2008 3:19PM
Hey, at least it will be a nice birthday gift for me :D
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 24th 2008 3:12PM
"Sony must have thrown googobs of cash at Criterion for this."
See SonyFanboys, see how stupid things like this sound?
j.howlett @ Jul 24th 2008 3:20PM
yeah. i mean we all no microsoft pays for early stuff. bill gates hands cash to developers personally
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 24th 2008 3:33PM
lol
I'm gonna guess you typed that on your cell phone, right?
j.howlett @ Jul 24th 2008 3:47PM
actually the predictive dictionary came up with knot at first. i saw it after i hit reply but forgot to put in the password. i was thinking no wrong word and probably just typed "no" subconsciously. then it posted and i figured oh well.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 24th 2008 5:07PM
I'm sorry, what?
MS didn't not only pay Rockstar $50M for exclusive content but brag about it too?
Perhaps PS3 people are saying stupid things in immature ways, but it's not like they've cornered the market on it. And sadly, MS has given us plenty of concrete info to dissuade us from ruling out the idea that MS would throw money around in ways that negatively impact the experience of their competitors' consoles.
Or do you think Rockband 2 is a timed exclusive because they make more money by delaying selling it to a slice of the gaming population?
j.howlett @ Jul 24th 2008 5:32PM
yeah i attempted to make a bad joke that was ruined by poor proof reading. but only part of my statement was completely ridiculous if you ignore the mistake.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 24th 2008 3:12PM
Have you have had grammar classes, Jason?
:)
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jul 24th 2008 3:34PM
For a video game blog, the writers here run a tight grammatical ship.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 24th 2008 4:36PM
Oh, they're a capable bunch for sure. I'm just teasin' the boy.
TommyFlorida @ Jul 24th 2008 3:20PM
Yea you guys are getting it easy,I Think we've been wating for Home for what now...**Counts** Like 10 years?
lol dont worry u guys will get it.
Zertoss @ Jul 24th 2008 3:33PM
Well fuck. I got my Xbox back from repair (or rather they replaced it) and now this is delayed again.
felixlighter @ Jul 24th 2008 3:43PM
Disappointing.
tlarkin79 @ Jul 24th 2008 4:00PM
I'd rather it wait to get certified instead of rush to have it cause problems.
Leobebes @ Jul 24th 2008 4:43PM
Who friggin cares? The Car physics and graphics on GTA IV are like 85% identical to this game, but unlike Criterion Rock Star lets you hit pedestrians.
Good for you PS3 owners!
lol
ice~ @ Jul 24th 2008 5:09PM
You seriosly can'T be comparing GTA IV to a burnout game they are two totally different games and Burnout isn't about realistic driving if you've ever played the games... i'm sure pedestrians would ruin the game.
AmericanNinja @ Jul 24th 2008 5:15PM
lol Delaybox strikes again!
Dale @ Jul 24th 2008 4:57PM
I can wait. As others have sort of said, it's still a very fun game indeed. One of the few games to have survived my GameStop trade-in culls.
Brian @ Jul 24th 2008 5:31PM
Crackpot theory: MS pays developers for exclusive content, Sony pays them to delay competitors content.
Jack Tretton @ Jul 24th 2008 5:36PM
This is the update with the hoverboards, right?
bhuddamonk @ Jul 25th 2008 9:51PM
Get used to it Xbots. The PS3 is going to win the war. Its more and more evident everday...
