Dragonforce track pack coming to Guitar Hero III
You can say what you like about the "listenability" of Dragonforce's music, but there are two things you just can't argue with. 1. Their music is extremely difficult to play in Guitar Hero and 2. They have a hell of a talent for naming songs. Rule 2 has been proven once again with a downloadable track pack coming from the band to Guitar Hero III on August 21.The track pack will include "'Heroes Of Our Time' (rad!) the first single from the new album Ultra Beatdown (also rad!) as well as Inhuman Rampage (totally rad!) classics 'Operation Ground and Pound' (radder!) and 'Revolution Deathsquad' (raddest!)." So, will rule 1 also be confirmed with the new pack? Well, when a song's called 'Revolution Deathsquad,' we're at least hoping to end up with some blisters.

Nice. Not as good as TTFATF, but still nice. How about some Yngwie Malmsteen or Rodrigo y Gabriella?
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 1:19PM
Lets see iamchris4life FC this!
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 1:21PM
But really, Neversoft is really starting to deliver on the tough DLC. The Guitar Virtuoso pack is AMAZING.
kavendano14 @ Jul 24th 2008 1:35PM
Don't you think it's just a little bit too late?
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 1:39PM
Nope. They should have been doing this DLC from the start though. The casual GH players don't go for the DLC. Most DLC players are Expert players looking for "more" in the game, and it should be 6-8th tier DLC almost all of the time, in my opinion.
Now, Rock Band DLC is catered to the full band, and I understand that. Still, there is not enough challenge for me Guitar wise. I just love some tough DLC every now and then. Its good to cater to the hardcore X Guitar players.
T @ Jul 24th 2008 2:08PM
Don't you think more "casual" gamers would buy the DLC if it was more accessible?
GH tends to do this by releasing big-name bands, but not always easier stuff.
RB mixes difficulty with name recognition. Look at how they countered Jimmy Buffet with Disturbed in the same week.
There's something for EVERYBODY in RB's setup. With GH you can get your big name song...or your challenging song. But then it comes potentially packed in with two songs you may not give two s#!ts about.
Haggard @ Jul 24th 2008 2:11PM
I appreciate that sometimes it's nice to play something with a really amazing solo, and be impressed at hitting it, but too often Neversoft simply chart songs that are painful and boring to play, or are so overcharted that they utterly ridiculous despite being interesting.
I lean more towards Rock Band because of the social aspect and the fact that more of Harmonix's songs are just plain fun to play.
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 2:18PM
Like I said though, Neversoft has their shit together on their last pack of charts. Surfing with the Alien is the best charted Neversoft song to date, IMO.
Neversoft is improving.

Heh I just got tickets to this slipknot tour next month and these guys are playing also, should be awesome/hilarious.
Kaioh @ Jul 24th 2008 2:04PM
I went to the Mayhem Fest on the opening date in Seattle, and actually met DragonForce. If you want to meet them, make sure to check the Roadrunner Records both and see if they are doing a meet and great. Also, prepare to have your face melted, since the entire show was amazing.
In regards to this DLC.
Epic. Thats all I can say.
Revolution Deathsquad is probably my favorite song from Inhuman Rampage, too. When I saw them in concert they played a new song, not sure if that was it, though, since they never gave a title. It rocked, though.

More excessively difficult Guitar Hero songs!
Yay!
:-\
Shadow El @ Jul 24th 2008 2:20PM
You don't have to buy them, you know.
They're just there for people who actually like to be challenged in modern gaming.
AirIntake @ Jul 24th 2008 3:06PM
There's a big difference between a challenge and being kicked in the balls 8-bit style.
dmbrandon @ Jul 24th 2008 1:23PM
Revolution Deathsquad is one of the hardest songs in the custom charts. I'm kind of excited.
copa @ Jul 24th 2008 1:28PM
OK, Rock Band DLC has had more Radiohead, Metallica, The Who, Black Sabbath, Boston, Muse, Iron Maiden, Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Police.
But GH3 DLC has had more Buckethead and Dragonforce.
Yay?
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 1:32PM
Guitar Hero has had Steve Vai and Joe Fucking Satriani too.
Please, play the Guitar Virtuoso pack before you judge it. It is amazing.
copa @ Jul 24th 2008 1:42PM
I love Steve Fucking Vai and Joe Fucking Satriani. I'm even willing to admit in public that I like Cold Fucking Play.
I'm not criticizing a specific pack here, but I am extremely critical of Activision's overall DLC strategy.
Some people here will cling to an unsourced Kotaku report that claims otherwise, but Activision has confirmed on the record, to both IGN and 1UP, that GH3 DLC will not work in GH4 because of file format issues.
That means the DLC has a very short shelf life. Couple that with higher prices, the inability to buy singles, and poor selection, and you don't have a very compelling product here.
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 2:06PM
Absolutely true.
However, if Neversoft wants to catch up in the DLC game, they're going to have to get their shit together and start doing it asap. I know the Metallica DLC will be on GH3 and GH:WT, but they need to line up some more DLC for World Tour, and it needs to deliver as well. I'm talking big name DLC. Dragonforce and the Virtuoso pack are big name DLC. However, they need to be more frequent with the DLC, and offer better pricing.
One can dream, eh?
copa @ Jul 24th 2008 2:28PM
"Dragonforce and the Virtuoso pack are big name DLC."
Outside of the Scorehero forums, I disagree that Buckethead and Dragonforce are big name DLC. See my original post.
Dirty @ Jul 24th 2008 1:28PM
I really get the feeling that Justin is trying his hardest to bring the word RAD back.
DAK @ Jul 24th 2008 1:33PM
Justin,
The entire second paragraph of this post made me laugh out loud. Thanks!
Justin McElroy @ Jul 24th 2008 1:35PM
You're so very welcome.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 24th 2008 1:39PM
Hey Justin ole' buddy ole' pal...while you're here. When are you guys going to do something about the comment system not loading the comments properly? It's just getting ridiculous and frustrating seeing that a story has like 10 posts and once you 'click to embiggen' or 'Jump In' if you will, you only see 1 or 2.
:(
Danny F. @ Jul 24th 2008 1:59PM
Yea its starting suck badly, gotta hit reply like 4-5 times in 2 minute intervals before your comments show up. >_
Tiptup300 @ Jul 24th 2008 3:32PM
It's because of what's being added to the end of the news story. Just remove the /#, like after this post it will add /1#rad, just remove the garbage.
Chilly P @ Jul 24th 2008 1:34PM
I friggin' love DragonForce. Although I think their best songs are 'My Soul and My Spirit Will Go On' and 'Fury of the Storm' which were both off of Sonic Firestorm (best. album name. ever.). The latter was in that rumored list of GH:WT tracks.
Oh, and yes, they are awesome in concert.
eldee @ Jul 24th 2008 1:47PM
actually, they're pretty shitty live imo. Most of their guitar parts are multi-track recorded with artificial harmonics, so the "live" guitars don't really sound the way they do on the album.
don't get me wrong, I love dragonforce.. but they're no good in concert.
Abscissa @ Jul 24th 2008 2:50PM
I love Dragonforce's guitar/vocals, but I can't bring myself to actually listen to most of their songs because the drums are absolutely beyond obnoxious.
Christian @ Jul 24th 2008 1:34PM
MEGATON - I am excited! Been a DragonForce fan for a few years, before GH and I cannot wait. Operation Ground and Pound is one of my favorite songs :)

Danny F. @ Jul 24th 2008 1:37PM
Sweeeeeet..
DarkNessBear @ Jul 24th 2008 1:38PM
Ah, they shouldnt have done this. They should have kept Dragonforce GH3 song infamous. And maybe released one more Dragonforce song that is harder then TTFAF. Now it's just going to be another group.
eldee @ Jul 24th 2008 1:47PM
it already was...?
Hafk @ Jul 24th 2008 1:55PM
It is. When people find out that I am an expert GH player, they often say "DUDE CAN YOU BEAT DRAGONFORCE".
Actually pisses me off. I'm not that skilled compared to much better GH players, yet if I say I beat TTFAF, all of a sudden I am hailed as a god.
klepto88 @ Jul 24th 2008 2:35PM
Hafk, I think you meant to say "I play GH on expert mode," rather than "I am an expert GH player." Also, don't you mean "if I say I beat TTFAF, all of a sudden I am viewed as an obsessive freak with too much spare time?"
Evan @ Jul 24th 2008 2:20PM
Revolution Deathsquad is actually a way better song than Through the Fire and the Flames.
eldee @ Jul 24th 2008 4:06PM
agreed. TTFAF is actually down the list quite a ways on my list of favorite DF songs
engine @ Jul 24th 2008 3:09PM
Sonic Firestorm was a better album than Inhuman Rampage.
There, I said it, I'd say it again if I had to.
Evan @ Jul 24th 2008 3:20PM
Fury of the Storm :).
ark_keeper @ Jul 24th 2008 7:55PM
It'd be awesome to get some songs from that album.
Alex @ Jul 24th 2008 3:45PM
And yet, people complains about GH:OT tracklist being "lame" and "cheesy"
Evan @ Jul 24th 2008 4:41PM
I would actually rather play a masterpiece by Symphony X, like The Odyssey(24 minutes long!), or Set The World On Fire.
Tyler @ Jul 30th 2008 6:43PM
Dude. I strongly agree. I love having Dragonforce though. I am a huge Symphony X fan. Saw them once already and I'm seeing them in November with meet and greet passes. They are an amazing metal progressive whatever you want to call them band. Amazing live and just great musicians. Dragonforce and Symphony X rule.
ReplicantX @ Jul 24th 2008 5:20PM
Dragonforce is like Manowar toned down abit. Kinda of like 4th edition dnd vs. say 2nd edition. Its still fun to play but you have to hide the shit before girls come over.
KEFIOX @ Jul 24th 2008 5:23PM
This almost makes me want to stop playing Rock Band long enough to try these. Nah! As much as I love DragonForce I can't stand Activision right now. What would be awesome is if I could drum these songs in RB. Get on it HMX!
Although I have to agree with Joystiq on rule 2.
JonFitt @ Jul 24th 2008 5:24PM
Urgh, terrible music.
TTFAF epitomises the worst aspects of GH and highlight Rock Band's strengths:
1) It's a terrible niche metal song
2) It's ridonkulously difficult.
Neither of these are good things.
