A new system update for Japanese Wii consoles has introduced an intriguing new function to the Wii Shop Channel: bonus content. The feature, which prompts users to enter a 16-digit code when accessed, has so far been used to distribute the Wii Speaker Channel using a key included with Daigasso! Band Brothers DX for the Nintendo DS.
Nintendo Everything and Wii Fanboy speculate that the Shop Channel's new feature could potentially be used to redeem codes included with games for everything from free Wii Points to downloadable content and Virtual Console titles. Might we suggest a code that, when entered, simply rewards users with smiles? Nintendo certainly has a lot of them to go around.

I can see developers using this to have tons of code-locked content on a disk people will have to pay to unlock. Kinda like DLC without being DLC lol. If it saves room on my Wii internal memory, god bless it. I'd love to see how developers are going to use this.

... You mean like what EA has already been doing with a few 360 games?
Something people REALLY hated?
You want developers to replicate THAT on Wii?
Are you a madman, or a corporate troll?!

Nintendo already do that. Look at games like Pokemon, there's plenty of content in those games that are already there, on the cart, but you have to go to special access points in certain stores to "download" the events, so you can capture those exclusive Pokemon.
Which essentially means anyone outside of Japan and America can't get them at all. They're also doing the same thing with the new Animal Crossing. Yay Nintendo.

Well this is nice. :)
Nintendo still needs work to do, but I say this looks good.
