PSN Thursday: Fall victim to Siren: Blood Curse; select PSN titles on sale for $5
It's a big week for the PSN update, with a nice sale going on, Parappa the Rapper available as a downloadable PS1 Classic and the addition of a PSN original, Siren: Blood Curse. Let's start with the PS3's first survival horror game, Siren: Blood Curse, which has one of the most unique cost models we've ever seen. The television show game comes in 12 episodes that players can download in four-episode packs at $15, or just buy in its entirety for $40. We've yet to actually play the game, so we can't make a recommendation, but there's also a demo available, which is certainly worth trying first. The full game fills up a whopping 9 gigglebytes on the PS3's hard drive.
Select PSN games are available for $5 this week only, including: PixelJunk Monsters, PAIN and Rocketmen. Don't forget to download the PixelJunk Eden demo! There's plenty of other stuff too, check it all out after the break.
The European PSN update can be found over at PS3 Fanboy. Tragically, our European writer has been watching the Big Brother house non-stop, so he can't give us a report on Siren either.

Bam! Done and done.
VoLiTioN @ Jul 24th 2008 7:26PM
The wallpaper on the SF4 theme looks like it's cropped on the sides. The Capcom logo on the top left is cot off as well as part of the SF4 logo. Trying to figure out if I can fix that or not.
Either way, still a good theme.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 24th 2008 7:28PM
I want to get Siren now, but I can't afford it right this minute with bills and everything. Thankfully I can finally get PJM since it's only $5 now and I keep hearing how great it is.
Also, ouch at the 9GB Siren fills up. I still have around 32GB left of my 60GB HD, but goddamn that's still a lot.
jimbo @ Jul 24th 2008 7:42PM
I have to say, pixeljunk Eden is a pretty weak game... I understandbthey were just going for a "relaxing"game, but it just isn't any fun, even in co-op. Plus, there is NO reason for a timer... So far, the timer hasn't been a burden, but if there was a ever a game that didn't need a timer, this is it.
The_Punisher @ Jul 24th 2008 7:48PM
I thought Eden was great, and i'm downloading SIREN as we speak. Anyone know of a good, cheap hardrive? I've got about 1 GB left xD

Siren is awesome. So cool that its going to only be 5 bucks per episode. Me and my gf loved it.
The_Punisher @ Jul 25th 2008 2:00PM
Go further nito the comments, i left impression. It is indeed awesome, although the first episode is disoritenting becuase i'm getting used to the controls, darkness, camera, and strange hidden routes all at once. Now that i have it going, i think it's great. Dialog is a little weak, but the animations are great.
marcandrer @ Jul 24th 2008 7:52PM
anyone knows if Siren: New Translation (the jap version of the game) as English TEXT ?.. on play-asia it's stated that the game is english and japaneese but the demo for Siren: New Translation only had japaneese texts.
If anyone knows I'd realy apreciate a reply cause I'd much rather buy a hard copy of the game :)
thanks !
Christopher Grant @ Jul 24th 2008 7:58PM
I'm with you ... anyone know?
Boom! @ Jul 24th 2008 8:03PM
The Asian version has the English text.

The problem I have with stuff like "Siren: Blood Curse" is that black is not black on an LCD especially when it's dark in the room your in so you have to keep the lights on bright. Then again maybe it's just my chintzy set that has this problem. Anyhow that aspect bugged me during the demo. Maybe I'll try it again while the sun is still up.
Josh @ Jul 24th 2008 10:53PM
It's got to be your set. =/
Metoo @ Jul 24th 2008 11:08PM
Try calibrating your set. It looked fine on my Samsung LCD.
Kris @ Jul 25th 2008 5:19AM
It looks black on my Pioneer 5020 Kuro. :)
required @ Jul 25th 2008 12:25PM
I'm sure it's my set. I got it to look pretty good, but the black levels are still not black enough.
meatee @ Jul 25th 2008 1:59PM
If you're going to play with all the lights off, try turning the backlight all the way down. It might look dim at first, but your eyes will adjust since you won't have any other lights on.
Mox007 @ Jul 24th 2008 8:01PM
That Parappa the Rapper isn't the PS1 version it's the PSP version same as the one in the PC store.
Waqman @ Jul 24th 2008 8:16PM
That PixelJunk Eden demo is insanely addictive for such a simple game.
Residentevil72501 @ Jul 24th 2008 8:46PM
I am seriously wanting Siren Blood Curse if anyone has finished DL'ing it is it awesome or not? If its good im buying it right now!
Ayrkain @ Jul 24th 2008 9:02PM
It needs moar Old Gregg.
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 25th 2008 7:04AM
I'm sure hes heard that joke several times since he put that avatar there ¬_¬
OTAM @ Jul 24th 2008 9:03PM
I can't understand how Siren: Blood Curse is getting this kind of coverage from the internet. Did all of you guys completely forget about how incredibly SHITTY Siren was?
I didn't,because it's still sitting on my game shelf.
Derf @ Jul 24th 2008 9:40PM
Just because the first one was "SHITTY" doesn't mean this one will be. From what I read in the Eurogamer review, it's improved a lot.
Also, Blood Call?
turkeybaster @ Jul 25th 2008 10:44AM
If it's so bad what the hell is it still doing on your shelf?
Jon Speed @ Jul 24th 2008 9:24PM
I just bought Pixel Junk Monsters on Monday...
Fuck
Residentevil72501 @ Jul 24th 2008 9:24PM
WEll of course man everyone needs more Ole Greg in there life :) And if you dont know what me and aykarina r talking about just youtube old greg and you will have your life changed dramatically!!!!1
Jarret @ Jul 24th 2008 9:46PM

I think I'm gonna get the import disc, too. At least then I can sell it if I don't want to replay it. Apparently it's still a pretty big install (5GB).
jake18oly (XBL,PSN: RSXtypeSfan) @ Jul 24th 2008 9:49PM
If you have a PS3 and don't own Pixeljunk Monsters it is definitely worth getting for only $5. That game is a blast to play alone and even more fun to play co-op.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jul 25th 2008 1:15AM
i hear ya. i liked the demo, but for some reason never bought the full game. at $5 though, its too good to pass up. i have that, 1942, and PJE downloading now. tonights gonna be a long night lol.
The_Punisher @ Jul 24th 2008 10:12PM
If you guys want Siren impressions:
Pros: Gameplay is amazing: scary, intense, good music to go with it
Cons: Strange camera and controls, feel a little unresponsive at times, but that may just be realism. Also, voice acting/dialog isn't that great, but i haven't really gotten into the story yet.
Overall: Glad i got it. It'd good enough to keep me playing (and scary enough i want turn it off xD). Good buy
Duke @ Jul 25th 2008 10:16AM
You sold me! Thanks for giving some impressions of it.
Llama_egg @ Jul 25th 2008 3:44PM
You found it scary? I dunno, I found it lacking, I mean, sure, the whole flashlight thing adds to the suspense, but I didn't as much as find myself jump once. D:
The_Punisher @ Jul 25th 2008 10:49PM
It's not about gay scary shit popping up. The atmosphere feel real, like he can actually shoot, and that makes it awesome. I felt scared of an animated object, that's good for me :)
phinnvr6 @ Jul 24th 2008 10:28PM
I'm ready to buy Super Stardust HD, or Everyday Shooter. Both look awesome and I just can't decide. The trophy support on Stardust HD are making me lean towards that. But I love the music aspects of ES.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jul 25th 2008 1:19AM
i have both and honestly like SSHD better. like you said, the music in ES is fantastic but that doesnt make the game, and it just gets boring to me after a while. its also MUCH harder than SSHD. i prefer SSHD because its so hectic but is bearable at the same time. the different weapons make it interesting as well. and the trophies are also a big plus.
it just depends on what kind of shooter you like, relaxing or hectic. ES puts me to sleep on occasion but is fun at times, and SSHD is hectic but accessible.
Pyramat @ Jul 24th 2008 10:50PM
I would go with Super Stardust HD. I have both and I enjoy Super Stardust HD more. They're pretty much the same type of game though.
Josh @ Jul 24th 2008 10:55PM
Hmmm...That's a good sale on PJM.
Josh @ Jul 24th 2008 11:23PM
But if I buy it, I probably won't play it until trophies are supported...
Omnidoom @ Jul 24th 2008 11:25PM
Does High Velocity Bowling warrant a purchase? I already have Pixel Junk Monsters and Pain, and HVB was the only other one on sale that I was interested in. The reviews make it seem pretty good.
JoeTheBlow @ Jul 25th 2008 6:27AM
Its alright if you have a real, live buddy to play it with (forget about online).
And if you can be bothered to stand up to swing the controller like a ball for each shot. No Wii-like wrist-flick couch cheating here.
Same goes for PAIN, which is fun for about 30 mins while alone, no longer.
chacho89 @ Jul 25th 2008 12:34AM
Im buying pixeljunk monster right now, 5 dollars hell yeah!!
Ernie @ Jul 25th 2008 3:53AM
Man, I have been trying all night to add funds to my Wallet but it just doesnt accept my credit card info no matter how i input it.
I really want to get Siren and PJM but theres just no way i can add, and its not cause my card is full cause i have it completely paid up ( except for the batman movie tickets i bought last night )
Does anyone have a solution for this problem? I have tried inputting my info in all sorts of ways.
Pennywise @ Jul 25th 2008 7:39AM
I am having the same problem. I even called support and they were no help at all.
JoeTheBlow @ Jul 25th 2008 6:24AM
PJM offers a quite incredible amount of hours of gameplay for such little cash, bargain of the year, especially when you factor in PJM:Encore and the upcoming trophy patch.
Siren is certainly worth a shot too. Amazing year for PSN so far.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 25th 2008 8:53AM
Holy christ, PaRappa is $23?! Why?
theclaw @ Jul 25th 2008 10:04AM
Waitstation3 strikes again.
Please, Sony. Just release the PSN cards already! This beating around the bush for months on end is ridiculous.
The_Punisher @ Jul 25th 2008 10:40AM
OR, get a debit/pre-paid card like the rest of the people here that have either a credit card, or common sense
;)
theclaw @ Jul 25th 2008 11:02AM
I'd be happy with them just making up their mind. If they plan to cancel the nationwide rollout, they should say so.
I hate vaporware so much. I really do. Still not over that Nintendo Puzzle Collection thing...
tkAshur @ Jul 25th 2008 12:13PM
Wuh? Parappa's only a PSP game? What prevented them from making it work on the PS3? Just cause its a port from the PSP game doesn't mean it shoul've been all that difficult to pull a few zeros and add some 1's to make it work on the PS3. Well it can sit there in the store for all I care.
I bought pain at 5$, but I was hoping trophy support was in already...at least thats what I thought was the case...no, just the pain in game trophies...i cried a little inside...looks like my 100% Stardust trophies shall be lonely for another week.
