Splinter Cell: Conviction delayed until at least April '09
No, no, no, don't cry, Sam! Oh, now look, you've ruined your mascara. It appears emo Sam Fisher is going to be sitting on the sidelines a little longer as Ubisoft announced today that Splinter Cell: Conviction is being delayed until the company's next fiscal year. For those who don't tell time through corporate fiscal calendars, that means Conviction won't be released until after April of 2009.
Rumors of Conviction's delay have been floating around for months, kicked into overdrive by the game's no-show at Ubidays and E3. Back in May, the development team said it would be showing the game in "forthcoming months." Well, there's still Tokyo and Leipzig ...

Maverick Saturn @ Jul 24th 2008 3:26PM
Lmao, got that right, was wondering how it connected with the article :S
Jakka (Not sure why he got banned?) @ Jul 24th 2008 3:42PM
No it isn't.
Remember that picture of Chief with $ signs in his eyes?I swear it gets copy-pasted in every Halo-related news.
Phillip @ Jul 24th 2008 4:13PM
"was wondering how it connected with the article :S"
Oh, you mean the part where the picture was Sam Fischer from Splinter Cell: Conviction and the article was about Splinter Cell: Conviction? That was how they were connected.
Ethan @ Jul 24th 2008 6:08PM
It's actually an exclusive still confirming Sam Fisher as a new character in Heroes season 3.
EliteBeatsAgent08 @ Jul 24th 2008 3:20PM
Not exactly news here...
DangerMouse @ Jul 24th 2008 3:26PM
Nice, that should give him some time to get a hair cut.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 24th 2008 4:00PM
...AND get his old job back at Third Echelon. They should take it back to the "old days" of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and have actual sanctioned missions where you get to sneak around using bad-ass gadgetry, instead of using crowd mechanics a la Assassin's Creed.
Bill Pullman @ Jul 24th 2008 3:29PM
someone just get done watching Exorcism of Emily Rose?
oh, those are tears. that's rough.
Jweav @ Jul 24th 2008 6:08PM
Maybe his mascara is running?
Duke @ Jul 24th 2008 3:29PM
Can't say this shocks me. I have more or less just ignored that this game is being made, thus it won't bother me that it keeps getting delayed.
Splinter what? Who?
Dirty @ Jul 24th 2008 3:34PM
I'm in the same boat. Meh.
Snowblind @ Jul 24th 2008 3:45PM
I would agree with the mehing, but the game actually looked really good in the early previews, the new mechanics looked fantastic. But then they decided to use the new system to make Assassins Creed, and since it was so poorly recieved, it's hardly surprising to see this delayed.
They seemed to ignore the fact that Assassins Creed always looked like ass, while Splinter Cell did not.
Dirty @ Jul 24th 2008 4:17PM
I still dont understand why people hate on Assassin's so much. I thought it was a good game. Whatever your problem with the game it sure didn't look like "ass".
turkeybaster @ Jul 24th 2008 4:27PM
@Snowblind:
Graphics are subjective. So you have every right to say what you did...but an average score of 80 on Metacritic between PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 does not a "poorly received" game make. Especially since Ubisoft was wetting their pants with how good the game was doing.
They had to up their sales predictions from 3 million to 5 million between 07-08, AND they had the fastest selling brand new IP on ANY system.

"But then they decided to use the new system to make Assassins Creed, and since it was so poorly recieved, it's hardly surprising to see this delayed."
I've heard across the boards that it was the complete opposite. When Ubisoft realized how advanced Assassin's Creed was over Splinter Cell: Conviction, they wanted to redo the entire game to bring it up to speed with AC.
Also, as the first in a new series, it sold over 1 million units in one week. That's no easy feat for just any new IP.
Do your homework before you reverse the facts and flame a game that sold extremely well.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 24th 2008 3:31PM
So delay huh? Hmm, maybe they're looking at MGS4 and "borrowing" ideas from it?
Old Sam..CONFIRMED?!!!
Sam, you cant die! Sam, Sam?!! SAAAAAAAMMMM!!!!!!
Dirty @ Jul 24th 2008 3:33PM

Damn. I hate double posts. (I guess this makes it a triple). It seems like there isn't even a way to delete my own posts, either.
Sorry, all!
DMeisterJ @ Jul 24th 2008 4:27PM
Did anyone not see this coming? I saw this a mile away. No show at Ubidays definitely meant something.
I guess after AC killed the engine that they were gonna use for this game, they had to re-think things. Maybe people don't like monotony and tedium in games Ubisoft, just maybe.
I hope that they re-work it, and keep it in line with the former releases.
ice~ @ Jul 24th 2008 4:59PM
I think I know why Sam Is emo. He was in prison for a while, bad things go down in prison he cud have been violated. or maybe it's cuz his wife was killed, or cause his daughter was hit by a car?? Whatever it is, I feel bad for the guy he went through all of that and now this, dAm delays!!! I WANT MY CAGNEY!!!!!
Good day :)
AmericanNinja @ Jul 24th 2008 5:15PM
lol Delaybox!
jitty @ Jul 24th 2008 5:40PM
This game is getting delayed a lot, and is probably costing a crap load of money, do you think it's possible that it will lose it's 360 exclusivity?
[.sm0ke.] @ Jul 24th 2008 6:07PM
Splinter Cell Forever
Dwag @ Jul 24th 2008 6:35PM
So another 360 game in 09 looking like they do have something planned for the future.
Deaddy @ Jul 24th 2008 8:43PM
I remember when this game's dev said that PS3 was not powerful enough to run their complex AI system. That was a dumb comment, and so I find this delay amusing. Hah.
Lard @ Jul 24th 2008 11:17PM
Hey look! It's Alice Cooper!
ill trooper @ Jul 25th 2008 1:37AM
FUCKING LAME
Red Leader @ Jul 25th 2008 10:35AM
Does anyone actually care if they make a new Splinter Cell? I thought the series was pretty much well and over with Double Agent to be honest. It's like getting another Halo, only nobody will care.
