No, no, no, don't cry, Sam! Oh, now look, you've ruined your mascara. It appears emo Sam Fisher is going to be sitting on the sidelines a little longer as Ubisoft announced today that Splinter Cell: Conviction is being delayed until the company's next fiscal year. For those who don't tell time through corporate fiscal calendars, that means Conviction won't be released until after April of 2009.
Rumors of Conviction's delay have been floating around for months, kicked into overdrive by the game's no-show at Ubidays and E3. Back in May, the development team said it would be showing the game in "forthcoming months." Well, there's still Tokyo and Leipzig ...

...AND get his old job back at Third Echelon. They should take it back to the "old days" of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and have actual sanctioned missions where you get to sneak around using bad-ass gadgetry, instead of using crowd mechanics a la Assassin's Creed.

I would agree with the mehing, but the game actually looked really good in the early previews, the new mechanics looked fantastic. But then they decided to use the new system to make Assassins Creed, and since it was so poorly recieved, it's hardly surprising to see this delayed.
They seemed to ignore the fact that Assassins Creed always looked like ass, while Splinter Cell did not.

@Snowblind:
Graphics are subjective. So you have every right to say what you did...but an average score of 80 on Metacritic between PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 does not a "poorly received" game make. Especially since Ubisoft was wetting their pants with how good the game was doing.
They had to up their sales predictions from 3 million to 5 million between 07-08, AND they had the fastest selling brand new IP on ANY system.

I've heard across the boards that it was the complete opposite. When Ubisoft realized how advanced Assassin's Creed was over Splinter Cell: Conviction, they wanted to redo the entire game to bring it up to speed with AC.
Also, as the first in a new series, it sold over 1 million units in one week. That's no easy feat for just any new IP.
Do your homework before you reverse the facts and flame a game that sold extremely well.

Did anyone not see this coming? I saw this a mile away. No show at Ubidays definitely meant something.
I guess after AC killed the engine that they were gonna use for this game, they had to re-think things. Maybe people don't like monotony and tedium in games Ubisoft, just maybe.
I hope that they re-work it, and keep it in line with the former releases.

This game is getting delayed a lot, and is probably costing a crap load of money, do you think it's possible that it will lose it's 360 exclusivity?

I remember when this game's dev said that PS3 was not powerful enough to run their complex AI system. That was a dumb comment, and so I find this delay amusing. Hah.

Does anyone actually care if they make a new Splinter Cell? I thought the series was pretty much well and over with Double Agent to be honest. It's like getting another Halo, only nobody will care.
