WipEout HD getting Trophies, coming 'very soon'
Sony's European arm has issued an official statement regarding WipEout HD's chronic PSN tardiness, and while the company failed to comment specifically concerning racer's reported tendency to leave players with the shakes, SCEE did reveal that the game is being updated to include a number of tweaks under the hood.
According to Sony, WipEout HD's continued delay is the result of "many improvements" and "numerous" additional features, including support for 2-player offline split screen and Trophies, as well as 8 reverse tracks, 4 extra ships, and a pair of alternative HUDS. As for when we'll be able to enjoy any of this from the comfort of our living rooms, Sony was less specific, saying only that it hopes to release the game "very soon."

Isn't "the shakes" some sort of weird codeword for diarrhea?
Would a diarrhea inducing game be funny?
VoLiTioN @ Jul 25th 2008 12:08AM
That would be "the runs."
Tiptup300 @ Jul 25th 2008 12:32AM
Seizures aren't a bug, its a FEATURE!
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 25th 2008 7:04AM
That and vibration go hand in hand :)

Mods, can you take down the above link? It brings you to a hugely obnoxious flashing website that possibly could cause a seizure (I don't actually know exactly, but it seems possible).
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 25th 2008 9:06AM
Sorry guys...don't know if that would actually cause one...it's funny if you're sure you aren't epileptic, but I didn't think about the widespread ramifications when I posted it. Good catch, Nate.

I don't see why the video would send someone into a sei-

Coming so soon Sony didn't even bother showing it at all at E3. Hmmmm... very weird.
Whoppy @ Jul 25th 2008 4:19AM
They didn't want to start a mass gaming journalist fit session. Might harm the reviews :P
Dwag @ Jul 24th 2008 11:29PM
Really wished the games I have had trophies in the games I actually have.
Well so far two games I'm getting have been confirmed to have them so I'll just wait till then until I begin trophy whoring.
matt247 @ Jul 24th 2008 11:31PM
What will come first; Wipeout or Home?
d1srupt0r @ Jul 24th 2008 11:31PM
Cool now Seizure HD is getting trophies.
youhavemail @ Jul 24th 2008 11:44PM
This is news how? Is every game released that gets trophies going to
clog up the front page? I hope not..

Sean, youhavemail and it is redundant.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 25th 2008 12:31AM
Well, besides the trophies, this announcement also confirmed a bunch of other additional content...
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 25th 2008 6:59AM
And I love candy :)
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Jul 25th 2008 12:17AM
This is one of the games that make me want a PS3. I love the PSP version.
Poisoned Al @ Jul 25th 2008 7:19AM
So you're a PS3 fanboy with no PS3?
God we have the new definition of sad right here.
FOXHOUND @ Jul 25th 2008 8:27AM
I guess you can throw me in that odd fanboy boat too -- I like the X360 but I won't have mine(back)until next month. :P
Anyway, I haven't finished PULSE yet, but I *eagerly* await the release of this title.
Poisoned Al @ Jul 25th 2008 9:09AM
Don't get me wrong. The second I think the PS3 is worth getting, I will. At the moment though, I looks like the money is going into a PC upgrade. For a "dying" platform, there's a shit load of games coming out for PC.
MuToiD_MaN @ Jul 25th 2008 12:47AM
I'm still curious how they conduct epilepsy testing...do they have some sort of metric for how fast colors and brightness change or do they just sit a bunch of people with epilepsy in front of a big screen and see if they convulse?
pasteymofo @ Jul 25th 2008 3:14AM
^ excellent question.
As always, Google to the rescue: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=epilepsy+testing
Good job SEO guys.
WRE: I own all 3! (4 if you count the DS.) @ Jul 25th 2008 1:07AM
Why is there an uppercase "E" in the title? What is it supposed to mean?
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 25th 2008 2:43AM
EXTREME!

EXCITING!!

normally any further talk of the delay would only continue my crying myself to sleep, but this post seems optimistic enough to calm my senses a bit. don't let me down, sony liverpool...
CB @ Jul 25th 2008 4:15AM
Those "many improvements" and "numerous" additional features sound like they should have already been there in the first place.
Nate @ Jul 25th 2008 8:09AM
It's a racing game with awesome graphics at 1080p 60FPS, 5 race modes, 8 player online, 8 tracks and 8 different racing teams..... that's a hell of a lot for a downloadable title. Trophies were only just introduced by Sony, so it's not surprising that they might have had to come later. I think it looks like a hell of a great game and trumpeting some additional features is worthwhile.
JoeTheBlow @ Jul 25th 2008 4:59AM
This post has made me a happy.
And Sony had enough to show at E3, they didn't need to find a place to squeeze this in.
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 25th 2008 6:58AM
Besides, sending all the reporters into seizures wouldn't have gone down well on Sony's part :S
Then again, they could have just claimed it to be the awesomeness.
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 25th 2008 7:15AM
Joystiq seems to be plagued with issues, its one after another >_<
This issue requires me to post two things, its doing it on other webblogs as well, the first is my original post, but it doesn't appear, so I need to post a second one just for the sake of it so that the first can be seen, ans sometimes on special occasions both don't appear no matter how many times I refresh and I must post a third >_
Danny @ Jul 25th 2008 8:04AM
I heard that one of the game's testers was Michael J. Fox, which is where the whole 'epilepsy' scare came from.
Nate @ Jul 25th 2008 8:09AM
Truly enlightened.
AK @ Jul 25th 2008 11:12AM
Making fun of sick people, or those who have a disability is not funny.
Jack Tretton @ Jul 25th 2008 8:38AM
They're using "epilepsy testing" as the excuse for the continuing work on the alternate HUDs.
Manji Ninja @ Jul 25th 2008 8:52AM
Well i'm dissapointed that Wipeout still isn't out, this is one of my most wanted PS3 titles! When it finally does arrive on PSN i suppose it'll probably appear on the American market 1st (even though it's a British game) just to really piss me off!
Brucie B @ Jul 25th 2008 9:14AM
CORN To the E
Duke @ Jul 25th 2008 10:22AM
A game that gives gamers seizures? Darwin would be proud.
Jason Zagar @ Jul 25th 2008 12:07PM
Yay for 2 player Split screen.
It's nice to see that not everyone has gone online only multiplay.
I swear, most game companies seem to think I should own 2 tvs and 2 consoles and 2 games just to play a game with/against my wife. (And in the case of XBLA, 2 live accounts)
Shahryar @ Jul 25th 2008 10:53PM
Nice. That's good news for me and my wife too.
Kelly @ Jul 28th 2008 3:31PM
My friends and I liked the "trophies" feature so much, we actually got real ones made up for the winners of each game, etc. If you are into trophies, check out this blog http://trophiesandawards.wordpress.com/
