Gears of War movie development soldiers on

Variety reports that Legendary Films has ponied up an undisclosed chunk of change to help New Line with the continued development of its Gears of War film adaptation. As the story points out, Legendary – which also helped finance The Dark Knight – isn't known for getting involved with flicks that are in development hell.
As we've previously reported, the Gears movie is being helmed by Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman and has the game's designer, Cliff Bleszinski, serving as an executive producer. The film had originally been slated for release in 2009 by New Line before the studio became a part of Warner Bros. Its parent company hasn't offered an updated release timeframe since, but the partnership with Legendary suggests that it remains serious about getting Microsoft's second best selling franchise onto the silver screen.

Live Free or Die Hard director? I guess that means GoW will have ridiculous amounts of the Jack robot hacking things in impossible ways

Firstly: great stuff. This movie may just have the makings of a proper blockbuster, and not just a crappy video game movie.
Also, I know this isn't the place for it but can I have my 'Benny' account unbanned please? I didn't do anything wrong and my account was blocked for a stupid reason. You guys don't seem to have an e-mail address that I can take the issue up with (although I tried the tip address to no avail).

As dumb as some things in that movie were you must have enjoyed the over all awesomeness of it! Maybe I loved it because I'm a big fan of all the prior Die Hard movies

The game had about as much story as any of the Aliens or Predator movies. I felt the plot was like Aliens plus Predator (not avp). The bad-ass team of soldiers (from pred) and the unending onslaught of enemies (aliens).
The feeling of dread and excitement of both.

What a coincidence.
I've had this game for months but am only playing through it now. Ive played quite a few hours today and plan and playing a few hours more later.
Loving it.
Great game.
Looking forward to part 2 and the movie now.

I would like to see the chainsaw raked across a Locust's face. That's all.
Vcize @ Jul 25th 2008 7:24PM
Oh there will be chainsaws. With Cliffy B on the set, you can count on it.
Darth Abe @ Jul 25th 2008 7:17PM
So it has a real director and Cliffy is in charge. Say what you will about him but he knows how to create an atmosphere. This may actually be okay.

Justin Long as Marcus Fenix confirmed.

I'm glad. Gears deserves a film publisher such as Legendary Pictures. Both Gears 2 and the movie are going to be remarkable.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 26th 2008 6:32AM
This will be Doom Maivia all over again.
